Affidavit: TCU Wide Receiver Hospitalized After Alleged Assault by Fields

TCU football player Dozie Ezukanma was hospitalized for three days after allegedly being assaulted in the locker room by then-teammate Jacob Fields, according to a signed arrest warrant affidavit obtained by ABC affiliate WFAA in Dallas.

The affidavit states that Ezukanma suffered a brain bleed, a concussion and other injuries after Fields punched and kicked him in the head on Aug. 13 inside the Walsh Athletic Complex at TCU. Fields was later dismissed from the team.

Ezukanma told police that he lost consciousness and remembered only being in the training room, where teammates explained what had happened. The junior wide receiver reported a severe headache and ringing in his ears to TCU’s athletic trainer and team doctor. He was then taken to a hospital, where two CT scans confirmed a brain bleed.

A transfer from Louisiana Tech, Fields was arrested Sunday on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. His agent told ESPN’s Mark Schlabach that Fields turned himself in. He was released later Sunday on a $50,000 bond.

What the arrest warrant affidavit says

According to the affidavit, a teammate told Ezukanma that Fields punched him in the head and kicked him while he was on the floor. The teammate told TCU’s athletic trainer, “Dozie wasn’t paying attention. [Fields] just hit him.”

Ezukanma, who was looking at his phone when the incident occurred, told TCU police that he believed Fields attacked him because the two players had been competing intensely during training camp. Ezukanma had outperformed Fields in practice on Aug. 12, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit also states that Ezukanma provided a text message attributed to Fields, 21, who wrote that he “made an emotional decision cause how I felt played the last few practices” and expressed regret, saying, “I’ll pay every hospital bill and then some to make this right.”

Ezukanma was admitted to the hospital and transferred to intensive care after the first CT scan revealed a brain bleed. A third CT scan later that night showed that he was stable, but he remained hospitalized until Aug. 16.

    Sonny Dykes addresses TCU incident

TCU coach Sonny Dykes addressed the incident after Saturday’s season-opening game in Ireland, saying, “It was something that was certainly out of character for the team and the young man that was involved. Look, you got 110 football players. I mean, things happen sometimes.”

Ezukanma did not travel with TCU to Ireland. The Horned Frogs will next play Grambling on Sept. 12.

  • Aaron Judge Could Return to New York Yankees’ Lineup on Sept. 8

Aaron Judge Could Return to New York Yankees’ Lineup on Sept. 8

Aaron Judge traveled with the New York Yankees for their West Coast trip this week and is nearing a return to the lineup, manager Aaron Boone said Monday night.

Speaking before New York opened a series with a 10-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, Boone said the superstar outfielder is “doing well” as he recovers from a stress fracture in his rib. Judge has not appeared in a game since May 31 after playing through pain for more than a month.

Aaron Judge could return in September

When asked whether Judge could be in the lineup when the Yankees return home on Sept. 8 to face the Colorado Rockies, Boone expressed optimism.

“I think it’s possible,” Boone said. “I’m not going to put a date on it. But I think those things are in play now. Again, it’s about getting the durability, and the workload built up on him, which is the biggest thing now.”

Last week, Judge, 34, was officially placed on the 60-day injured list. He told reporters in New York that he needed to “be smart over the next couple of weeks” while gradually increasing his activity.

At the time, Judge said he had not undergone another scan to measure the rib’s healing since he was cleared for light physical activity at the beginning of August.

“He’s here to kind of continue to ramp up baseball activities,” Boone said during Monday’s pregame media availability. “We’re getting closer, but we feel good about where he’s at.”

    Yankees remain in playoff position

The Yankees began their road trip after winning three of four games against the Boston Red Sox. New York entered Monday’s game with a 78-60 record and held the American League’s No. 1 wild-card position.

Judge is batting .248 with 17 home runs and 38 RBIs this season.

  • Victor Oladipo’s Letter to NBA General Managers

Victor Oladipo’s Letter to NBA General Managers

Victor Oladipo is asking NBA general managers for another opportunity, drawing on a career shaped by faith, family, injury, perseverance and an enduring love of basketball.

Oladipo’s basketball journey began with a dream his mother had while pregnant with him and his twin sister in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in 1992. In that dream, Hakeem Olajuwon gave her an autographed basketball. For Oladipo’s deeply spiritual Nigerian immigrant family, the vision felt like a message that one of her children was meant to play basketball.

His parents were not athletes. They believed education and hard work would create opportunities for their children, rather than basketball. But Oladipo fell in love with the sport by watching his older sister play, staying up late to watch the Bulls and Lakers in the NBA Finals, and imitating Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and his sister on his uncle’s driveway hoop.

When he began showing real ability, basketball started to feel like destiny.

    Oladipo’s NBA draft night dream

On the night of the 2013 NBA Draft, Oladipo was 21 and waiting to hear where his career would begin. His agent gave him a prediction: “Hey Vic, it’s gonna be you at #2 to Orlando.”

Oladipo tried to hide his excitement from the television cameras as he reflected on the sacrifices his parents had made, including his father working three jobs and his mother attending nursing school. He also remembered the doubts surrounding his offensive game and the limited resources available to him while growing up.

Then NBA commissioner David Stern announced, “…..with the second pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic select Victor Oladipo, of Indiana University.”

After completing his media obligations, Oladipo walked backstage to meet his family. His mother appeared frantic, and his twin sister pointed toward Hakeem Olajuwon. Olajuwon was attending Stern’s final draft as commissioner because he had been the first pick Stern announced.

Oladipo’s mother told Olajuwon about her pregnancy dream. He then autographed a basketball for her, exactly as he had in the dream.

That became the defining moment of Oladipo’s first night in the NBA.

    From Orlando to Indiana

Oladipo spent his first NBA seasons adjusting to a new position and an unsettled situation in Orlando. He had played power forward in high school and only moved to guard in college, where he was not primarily a point guard. The Magic asked him to run the point immediately, adding another major adjustment to the beginning of his professional career.

Orlando endured losing seasons and multiple head coaches before Oladipo was traded to Oklahoma City. He was traded again the following summer. Despite the instability, he views those early years positively, believing the difficulties and perceived failures became important building blocks for his future.

His first season with the Indiana Pacers felt different. Lessons from his turnovers in Orlando helped him become a better ball handler and passer, improve his understanding of spacing and change speeds more effectively. He also learned from playing alongside Russell Westbrook during Westbrook’s MVP season.

When Indiana told him, “Vic, it’s your team,” Oladipo embraced the responsibility and opportunity.

The connection between Oladipo and Indiana quickly became powerful. He described himself as an emotional player who feeds off connection and energy, and he credited the city, state and fans with helping him reach new heights.

During the Pacers’ 2018 playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana trailed 3-2 before Game 6 at home. A Cavaliers fan spotted Oladipo at a movie theater and told him, “HEY BRO. Y’ALL ARE GOING HOME TOMORROW NIGHT.”

Oladipo shouted back, “NO WE AIN’T!!!!! NO WE AIN’T!!!!!”

He then delivered one of the best games of his career, recording a triple-double while matching LeBron James basket for basket. Indiana defended its home court and forced a Game 7.

    Ron Hoskins/NBAE via Getty Images

    Injuries changed Oladipo’s career

Oladipo’s time in Indiana was interrupted when he ruptured his quadriceps tendon. The injury came after the best season of his career: he made his first All-Star team, received MVP votes, won the Most Improved Player award and helped the Pacers finish fifth in the Eastern Conference before pushing Cleveland to the limit.

He underwent surgery and spent a year rehabbing before returning shortly before the coronavirus pandemic. He played in the NBA bubble but said he felt as though he was operating on one leg, with pressure on his knee causing severe pain even as he was told everything appeared to be fine.

The prolonged recovery affected his confidence and mental health. After he was traded by Indiana in January 2021, nearly two years after the injury, he said he had reached an emotional low.

In 2023, while playing for Miami, Oladipo tore his patellar tendon. He now views that injury as a turning point. Rather than continuing to chase the player and team he had nearly become in Indiana, he believes the setback forced him to slow down, recover properly and build something real.

Over the past three years, Oladipo has focused on rehabilitation, training and therapy. He acknowledged that professional basketball players are taught to invest enormous emotional energy in the sport, which can make it difficult to cope when the game no longer seems to love them back.

Despite the pain of the past eight years, Oladipo says he has found renewed faith, perspective and purpose. He believes it is time to play basketball again.

Jessica Foley for The Players’ Tribune

A second dream and an NBA comeback bid

Oladipo’s second dream is about his four-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Naomi, whom he calls Nomi. Unlike his mother’s dream, it is not about what his daughter is destined to accomplish. It is about the kind of person he wants her to believe she can become.

He does not want her to see only the version of him who last appeared on an NBA court at 30, struggling with his body and mind. He also does not want her to see only the 21-year-old who stood beside David Stern on draft night or the 25-year-old who battled LeBron James in the playoffs.

Instead, Oladipo wants Nomi to see the current version of her father at 34: someone who was knocked down repeatedly, kept climbing and never quit. He says he has maintained his faith and purpose despite being counted out and laughed at by some people.

Oladipo believes his body is finally healthy and that he still has high-level, winning basketball ahead of him. He also believes he can contribute meaningfully to an NBA locker room. His request to NBA front offices is simple: an opportunity to prove it.

He hopes his daughter will return to this chapter of his life when she faces difficult times. He wants her to understand that strength includes both perseverance and the willingness to show vulnerability.

Oladipo does not know whether an NBA team will give him another chance. But he says his basketball story, from its first page to its last, will always be a love story.

  • Xolo Maridueña on James Gunn Bringing Him Back for the ‘Superman’ Sequel

Xolo Maridueña on James Gunn Bringing Him Back for the ‘Superman’ Sequel

Xolo Maridueña is set to return as Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming sequel to Superman. The actor said DC Studios co-chief James Gunn personally called him with the news after Maridueña’s future as the DC superhero remained uncertain following the 2023 film.

Maridueña recalled receiving the call while he was in Japan with friends, shortly before the Los Angeles premiere of Practical Magic 2.

“I was in Japan with my friends; nobody knew anything,” Maridueña recalled on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of “Practical Magic 2. “And I just see, like the Bat-phone, my phone rings [and it’s] James Gunn. All my friends look at me, and I had to leave the room. I came back, and I was like, ‘Off the record, don’t tell anyone, but we’re coming back,’ and I’m so excited for people to see where Blue Beetle ends up.”

The actor explained that he was not sure whether he would wear the Blue Beetle suit again after his standalone movie. He said he feels “humbled” by the chance to join the new DC Universe.

“There’s never a guarantee with anything, bro,” he said. “I mean, you know this, stuff flips on a dime, and I know that it’s not always like a merit-based system. So there’s so much that’s out of my control, but I am just the most humbled of James and the greater DC team for folding us in, Indiana Jones style.”

Blue Beetle returns in Man of Tomorrow

Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to 2025’s Superman, will see Superman join forces with his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor to stop Brainiac, an intergalactic super genius. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are set to reprise their roles as Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively.

The cast also includes Lars Eidinger, Aaron Pierre, Nathan Fillion, Milly Alcock, Isabela Merced and Skyler Gisondo.

Xolo Maridueña on Practical Magic 2

Earlier in the interview, Maridueña described working with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman on Practical Magic 2 as “surreal.” He said he was so excited after his first day on set that he wrote down every detail he could remember in his journal.

“The first day on set with the two of them, you’re having this third-person moment where they’re not only actors that you’ve witnessed your whole life, but also characters that are so electric,” Maridueña explained. “To be in the middle of this Venn diagram, my journal was full that night of all of the stuff, all of the little gems, all of the happy accidents, all of the morsels of knowledge that they give. They are outstanding class acts.”

Practical Magic 2, which arrives in theaters on Sept. 11, follows Sally, Gillian and their family of witches as they attempt to break a generational curse that prevents them from falling in love. Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, Cassie Bradley, Joey King, Maisie Williams and Lee Pace also star.

Susanne Bier directs the film from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett and Kelly Marcel.

  • Most of Star Wars Zero Company Studio Bit Reactor Staff Were Furloughed Ahead of Launch

Most of Star Wars Zero Company Studio Bit Reactor Staff Were Furloughed Ahead of Launch

Star Wars Zero Company Launches to Strong Reviews as Bit Reactor Furloughs Most Employees

Bit Reactor was expected to celebrate the launch of its debut game, Star Wars Zero Company, last week. Instead, many developers behind the well-reviewed tactical combat game are currently working without pay after being furloughed just weeks before release.

The Maryland-based studio, founded in 2021, released Star Wars Zero Company on Thursday, August 27. The game received strong reviews and was reportedly the top-selling title on Steam. It is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

At Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Bit Reactor co-founder Greg Foertsch was giving interviews about the studio’s plans for a possible next game. However, much of the team that developed Zero Company had already been furloughed ahead of launch.

A Bit Reactor representative confirmed to Game File that the studio furloughed many of its employees before the game’s release. The representative described the decision as difficult and said it was made before the company knew how the launch would perform. Bit Reactor also emphasized that the decision was made by the studio itself, rather than by publisher Electronic Arts or Star Wars license holder Disney.

The representative declined to specify how many employees were affected. However, a previously unreported lawsuit filed by studio co-founder Alison Kelly in 2024 stated in a filing dated August 12 of this year that Bit Reactor “has furloughed most of its employees and terminated contractors…”

One source told Game File that the furloughs affected 80% of the team. Another source said only a skeleton crew remained on Bit Reactor’s active payroll to address post-launch bugs in Star Wars Zero Company.

Bit Reactor furloughs employees before debut game launch

Bit Reactor appears to have run out of most of its funding shortly before launching its first game. Over the weekend, Zachariah Scott, a senior technical artist who worked at the studio from early 2023 until an acrimonious departure in May, wrote on LinkedIn that the company was “concealing the fact that the team was Furloughed weeks ago.”

Scott told Game File by phone that he spoke with nearly a dozen Bit Reactor employees over the weekend. “Everybody has essentially the same story, which is, ‘Yeah, I got furloughed three weeks ago.”

The Bit Reactor representative said the studio hoped to restore pay and bring furloughed employees back, suggesting that a successful launch could improve the company’s position.

Scott said the workers he contacted were less confident that all furloughed employees would return to their previous positions, even if Bit Reactor reinstated some members of the team.

Alison Kelly lawsuit adds to Bit Reactor’s turmoil

Bit Reactor’s launch period followed a turbulent legal dispute between co-founders Alison Kelly and Greg Foertsch. The lawsuit that first revealed the employee furloughs was originally scheduled for trial in June.

The case centers on whether Kelly, who served as Bit Reactor’s chief operating officer until 2024, was a co-owner of the studio or whether Foertsch owned it alone. Kelly sued in July 2024, alleging that Foertsch pushed her out of the company. She initially filed the case in federal court before refiling in Maryland’s Baltimore County, where she accused Foertsch of breach of contract and unjust enrichment.

Kelly claims more than $20 million in damages, based on an allegation that Bit Reactor was worth more than twice that amount. Foertsch’s side has argued that Kelly was never a co-owner and has made claims about her job performance, allegations Kelly has denied.

The trial was postponed until early 2027 as both sides continued deposing witnesses and filing additional claims and denials.

Filings reviewed by Game File offer further details about Bit Reactor’s origins, its early ambitions in the tactics genre and the team’s breakthrough in attracting Electronic Arts’ attention. That effort reportedly involved a pitch connected to one of EA’s non-Star Wars franchises, while the documents also describe early divisions among the studio’s co-founders.

Julio Rodríguez’s Late Gaffe Sinks Mariners in Extra-Innings Loss to Red Sox

Julio Rodríguez misplayed a line drive in center field that led to the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Boston Red Sox rallied for a 9-8 walk-off victory over the Seattle Mariners in the 10th inning Monday night before a sold-out crowd of 37,487 at Fenway Park.

The Mariners (64-74) have lost five consecutive games and fallen to a season-worst 10 games under .500. Seattle had taken an 8-5 lead into the eighth inning.

Red Sox rally late against Mariners

Trevor Story’s two-out, two-run double off Eduard Bazardo pulled the Red Sox (75-63) within one run at 8-7. Andrés Muñoz then entered and struck out Connor Wong, stranding the tying run at second base to end the eighth.

After the Mariners stranded Dom Canzone’s leadoff triple at third base in the top of the ninth, Roman Anthony opened the bottom half with a 106.5-mph line drive to center field.

Rodríguez tentatively attempted a sliding catch, but the ball bounced over him and rolled all the way to the center-field wall. Anthony reached third base with a leadoff triple and scored on Ceddanne Rafaela’s sacrifice fly to Randy Arozarena in left field. Anthony narrowly slid around catcher Cal Raleigh’s tag to tie the game at 8-8.

Cooper Criswell, activated from the 60-day injured list earlier Monday, took the loss in the 10th inning in his first appearance since June 8. Story drove a 3-2 sinker into the left-center-field gap for the walk-off hit.

Mariners offense shows signs of life

Seattle’s struggling offense showed signs of improvement after the Mariners had scored just four total runs in their previous four games.

Arozarena went 4 for 5 with four RBIs, while Raleigh hit his sixth home run of the past week. George Kirby allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings, surrendering home runs to Mickey Gasper and Jarren Duran.

2026 Fall Pedicure Colors to Keep Your Toes Feeling Extra Cozy

A shiny patent-leather pedicure can create the illusion of wearing the meanest, tallest, pointiest pair of knee-high boots—even when you’re actually in sensible loafers. “It doesn’t matter what you’re pairing it with,” Bachik says. “It’s gonna look good.” Okamura agrees, emphasizing the appeal of a high-shine finish: “A glossy topcoat keeps deep colors looking rich, rather than flat and chalky.”

For a true noir pedicure, try a deep black polish such as Manucurist Licorice or ILNP Ink, then apply a generous layer of glossy topcoat. It’s a dark, dramatic look that proves the trend is more than just a phase.

    Amethyst Jelly Pedicure

With jelly shoes enjoying a comeback and the summer jelly nail trend still going strong, it makes sense to carry the sheer, glossy finish into your fall pedicure—this time in a rich autumnal shade. According to Bachik, deep jewel tones will be especially popular this fall, particularly when paired with a jelly finish.
