    Chelsea Transfer Latest: Deal Close for Roma Midfielder Manu Kone as Loan Move for Jamie Gittens Is Explored

    Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Roma for France midfielder Manu Kone, according to Sky in Italy, although Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is working to keep the player at the club.

    The proposed deal is understood to be worth £52m. Talks are also progressing over a loan move that would see Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens join Roma in the opposite direction.

    Kone is being considered as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, with negotiations continuing over the Argentina international’s potential transfer to Manchester City.

    Chelsea’s discussions over both Kone and Gittens remain ongoing, but Gasperini’s reluctance to let Kone leave represents a significant obstacle. Gasperini pushed for the midfielder to remain at Roma when he took charge and played an important role in securing his immediate future at the club.

    Roma are working on potential replacements for Kone, including AC Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana and Marseille’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

    Could Manu Kone replace Enzo Fernandez?

    Analysis by Sky Sports’ Nick Wright:

    Kone has considerable pedigree as a 19-cap France international. At 25, and with his peak years still ahead of him, he has already impressed in Italy, Germany and his homeland, showing an ability to adapt that could serve him well in the Premier League.

    The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder combines athleticism with technical quality. Like the player he could replace at Chelsea, Kone can operate as either a No 6 or a No 8, although he is most comfortable at the base of midfield.

    That could suit Alonso, whose preferred three-at-the-back system leaves less room for the No 8 role in which Fernandez previously excelled for Chelsea. It may also benefit Kone, who can defend, pass and carry the ball but does not provide the same level of attacking threat.

    Fernandez made a major contribution in that area, producing 16 goals and 11 assists across the last two Premier League seasons. If he leaves, Chelsea may need to find those goals and assists elsewhere in the squad.

    Kone offers different strengths and recorded two goals and five assists in league matches for Roma over the same period.

    New Video Shows Federal Agents Stopping Eric Swalwell at SFO | NBC Bay Area

    Newly released surveillance video shows former East Bay Congressman Eric Swalwell being approached and escorted through San Francisco International Airport by federal agents.

    Airport authorities released the footage in response to a public records request from NBC Bay Area’s Investigative Unit. The video appears to show federal agents approaching Swalwell and surrounding him near a gate shortly after he arrived at SFO on Aug. 15.

    Swalwell is seen wearing a black hoodie sweater and a baseball hat. He appears to cooperate while handing what looks like his cellphone to a female agent. The former congressman is also carrying a backpack and pulling a rolling suitcase as agents escort him through the airport, up an escalator and into a restricted area.

    Search warrant details

    Court records show that federal agents executed a search warrant at San Francisco International Airport at approximately 8:25 p.m. The property inventory lists a white Apple iPhone, a charging cable and adapter, and an Apple MacBook Pro among the seized items.

    The following day, federal agents searched Swalwell’s residence in Washington, D.C. He has not been charged with a crime.

    Publicly available warrant records cite a federal civil rights statute, Title 18, Section 242. The law makes it a crime for someone acting under government authority to willfully deprive another person of rights protected by the federal government.

    Allegations against Swalwell

    Multiple women have accused the former congressman of misconduct, including sexual assault and sending unsolicited explicit messages. Swalwell has denied the allegations, which he described through his attorney as false and politically motivated.

    Swalwell resigned from Congress and ended his campaign for California governor in April after the allegations became public. Before his resignation, the House Ethics Committee announced its own investigation while emphasizing that opening an inquiry did not mean a violation had occurred.

    The FBI previously declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding the airport encounter. Swalwell and his attorneys have not addressed the incident.

    “Culture came first, science will make it stick, but aesthetics will drive the behavior change,” says McDonnell. The products are designed to be displayed, shared on social media and flaunted rather than stored out of sight in a medicine cabinet. Their portability could also take oral care beyond pharmacy aisles and into beauty and fashion retailers, checkout counters, gyms and coffee shops.

    A new route into retail

    Premium oral care remains on the fringes of dedicated beauty and wellness retail. Goop’s offering is limited to mouth tape, while Violet Grey and Ulta carry OLAS mouthwash. Credo has a broader selection, consisting mostly of products from oral-care brand Cocolab.

    Instead, the category is gaining traction at upscale lifestyle grocers such as Erewhon and Happier Grocery.

    More notably, premium oral-care products are appearing at fashion and luxury retailers. Köppen is stocked at Revolve and FWRD, as well as lifestyle grocer Laurel Supply. Selahatin is available at Holt Renfrew, Selfridges, Dover Street Market, Luisa Via Roma, Printemps New York and FWRD.

    Trudy Arnold, head of beauty and home at Revolve and FWRD, says the retailers began noticing the shift in 2024, as consumer interest expanded beyond toothpaste and whitening to tongue scraping, mouth rinses, oil pulling, electric toothbrushes and formulas focused on their ingredients.

    “For Revolve, oral care must offer performance and cultural relevance; for FWRD, the lens is discovery, craftsmanship and an elevated experience,” Arnold says. “Ultimately, across both brands, we’re looking for products that work, have a clear reason to exist and make an everyday routine feel more considered.”

    Woman Dead After Shooting at Defoors Ferry Road NW Apartment Complex

    Atlanta police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 22-year-old woman dead early Tuesday at an apartment complex on Defoors Ferry Road in northwest Atlanta.

    What happened in the northwest Atlanta shooting

    Officers were called to the apartment complex at about 2 a.m. after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they did not find a victim at the scene.

    Police later learned that a friend had driven the woman to Grady Memorial Hospital instead of calling an ambulance. She had been shot in the torso and later died from her injuries.

    Friend questioned by homicide detectives

    The man who drove the woman to Grady was taken to Atlanta Police Department headquarters to speak with homicide investigators about the shooting.

    “Right now, what we do know is it appears to be an isolated incident inside an apartment,” police said. “We’re still working on the motive.”

    Investigation remains active

    Investigators said the woman did not live at the apartment complex. Police have not released her name.

    Her family gathered at Grady Memorial Hospital after learning of her death as investigators worked to determine what led to the shooting.

    Crime scene investigators were processing the apartment Tuesday morning. Police have not identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive.

    The investigation is ongoing, and the information in this developing news story may change as more details become available.

    Help Investigate Abusive Youth Sports Coaches, ProPublica Urges

    For more than a year, I’ve been investigating how youth sports organizations have failed to protect children from sexual abuse—and how gaps in the system have allowed coaches banned for misconduct to continue working with young athletes.

    Coaches banned by SafeSport continue working with children

    My reporting has found that the Amateur Athletic Union, a major nonprofit sports organization, has become a haven for coaches accused of abuse. I identified eight coaches who are still working with children through the AAU despite being banned by SafeSport, the center created by Congress to protect young athletes from abuse in sports. SafeSport maintains a public list that anyone can check.

    The AAU has said it does not comment on individual cases. In a statement, however, the organization said it is “committed to protecting its athletes through comprehensive protection policies overseen by our Compliance Department.”

    I also reported on Ryan Richardson, a Texas volleyball coach who continued coaching despite being banned by SafeSport. He is now under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security.

    Richardson did not respond to multiple requests for comment on ProPublica and The Washington Post’s reporting, or to an email seeking comment about the Homeland Security investigation. When he was first suspended in 2024, Richardson told the local news website MyRGV that complaints about him were an effort to “retaliate and defame someone’s character,” and he said he “would never do anything to risk the physical or mental wellbeing of these strong young ladies.”

    Stefanos Tsitsipas Says Nick Kyrgios’s Cocaine Ban Was ‘expected’: ‘I’m surprised it came so late’

    Stefanos Tsitsipas says he knew about Nick Kyrgios’ positive cocaine test before it was publicly announced and was surprised the Australian was not suspended sooner.

    Speaking after his first-round victory over Arthur Fils at the U.S. Open on Monday, the 28-year-old former world No. 3 said he had heard from others on tour about Kyrgios’ behaviour away from the court and had expected disciplinary action to follow.

    Kyrgios, 31, was provisionally suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after a sample he provided at the Mallorca Championships on June 22 tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. The suspension took effect on August 4, but the ITIA did not announce it publicly until August 19.

    “To be entirely honest with you, I knew about this before the announcement,” Tsitsipas said. “I knew about all of this before any announcement was made, and when I saw it on social media, I was like, ‘Here we go.’ I kind of expected it, to be honest.

    “I knew that those were things that were happening away from the tennis courts. These were behaviours that I personally heard on the tour and heard other people in that same environment saying those sort of things to me. I am surprised it came so late, though.”

    Tsitsipas and Kyrgios have a fractious history

    The two players have a history of disputes, most notably during their volatile third-round meeting at Wimbledon in 2022, which Kyrgios won in four sets before reaching the final.

    Tsitsipas hit a ball into the crowd and later struck shots towards the Australian twice, while Kyrgios repeatedly argued with the chair umpire and demanded that his opponent be defaulted.

    Their disagreement continued after the match. Tsitsipas accused Kyrgios of “constant bullying” and said he had a “very evil side”. Kyrgios responded by saying the Greek had “serious issues”.

    Nick Kyrgios acknowledges positive cocaine test

    Kyrgios, the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion, acknowledged and apologised for his positive test last month, saying he had made a “huge mistake”. He said his struggles with injuries had affected him mentally and that “coming to terms with being near the end of my career has been harder than I ever imagined”.

    His positive finding was confirmed by a World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited laboratory on July 17. Cocaine is prohibited in competition under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme, and Kyrgios was placed under a mandatory provisional suspension while the case is resolved.

    Kyrgios has the right to appeal the suspension but had not done so when the ITIA announced the case. While suspended, he is barred from playing in, coaching at or attending events sanctioned by professional tennis bodies, Grand Slam tournaments or national associations.

    Arthur Fery narrowly missed out on a seeding at the US Open, which are awarded to the top 32 players, leaving the British player at risk of facing one of the leading stars in New York.

    Fery will play 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti, an excellent returner and slick mover who must be considered among the title favourites in a wide-open men’s draw.

    Musetti reached the US Open quarter-finals last year and has gone a step further at both the French Open and Wimbledon in recent seasons. The 24-year-old also reached the Australian Open quarter-finals in January.

    A thigh injury ruled Musetti out of the French Open and Wimbledon, but he has shown signs of rediscovering his best form with quarter-final appearances in Washington and Cincinnati.

    “Some weeks you get good draws, some weeks you get tougher draws – it is how it is,” said Fery.

    “I missed out by one spot on a seeded position and then I draw the 13th seed – it’s a bit unfortunate but some things go your way and some things don’t. “I still feel I have my chances in that match-up if I prepare and play well.”

    Whatever happens against Musetti, it will be intriguing to see how Fery fares over the coming months after earning a new level of attention.

    There has already been considerable discussion about whether the 5ft 9in Londoner’s stature could limit his progress on an ATP Tour where taller players tend to thrive.

    “I don’t think Arthur’s height has to be something which we sit here and worry about,” says Michael Bourne, the Lawn Tennis Association’s performance director.

    “He has great ball speed – whether off the ground or from the serve, he’s an amazing decision-maker and a very good athlete. “He’s earned the right for us not to put a ceiling on him. He’s a talented young man and there is a lot to be excited about – let’s see how far he can go.”

    Tesla shares surged more than 18% in August, outperforming major U.S. and Chinese electric vehicle stocks as Cybercabs appeared across Austin ahead of the company’s highly anticipated launch event on Thursday.

    Tesla Leads August EV Stock Rally

    Tesla was the clear August winner among major U.S. and Chinese EV stocks. Rivian gained 5.5% during the month, while General Motors, Ford and Stellantis fell 2.9%, 4% and 4.7%, respectively.

    Chinese EV makers performed even worse. BYD’s U.S.-listed shares declined 7.5%, Li Auto dropped 11.2%, XPeng fell 12.6% and Nio slid 13.3%.

    Wall Street’s average 12-month Tesla price target is $390.09, according to Koyfin, implying 6% upside from current levels. Among the 46 analysts covering Tesla, six rate the stock a ‘Strong Buy,’ 16 assign a ‘Buy,’ 19 recommend a ‘Hold,’ three rate it a ‘Sell’ and two carry a ‘Strong Sell.’ The overall analyst consensus is ‘Buy.’

    Tesla Cybercabs Appear Across Austin Ahead of Event

    The rally comes ahead of Tesla’s Sept. 3 Cybercab event, with sightings of the company’s gold-colored autonomous vehicles increasing across Austin.

    Tesla investor and influencer Sawyer Merritt noted on X that the company added another 38 Cybercabs to its Robotaxi fleet, bringing the total registered with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to 45. Videos shared online showed multiple Cybercabs driving and parked around the city.

    Merritt also reported that Tesla expanded its Austin Robotaxi service area for the first time in 10 months. The geofence grew about 9% to 264 square miles, compared with 81 square miles in Dallas, 31 in Miami, 26 in Orlando, 25 in Houston and 24 in Tampa.

    Patrick Moorhead, chief analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, said he saw Tesla Cybercabs throughout downtown Austin and, for the first time, observed as many as Waymo vehicles.

    Tesla AI chief Ashok Elluswamy also shared footage of the vehicles, declaring, “The streets won’t be the same anymore.” When an X user asked whether Tesla was preparing to flood Austin with Cybercabs, CEO Elon Musk replied, “Yes.”

    Tesla Analyst Challenges Robotaxi Optimism

    Tesla’s EV business is also showing signs of strong demand ahead of the event. The Model Y L Launch Series is nearly sold out for 2026, with estimated deliveries for all configurations now extending into early 2027.

    Strong early demand for the longer Model Y variant could help Tesla balance its core vehicle operations with its increasingly focused autonomy and artificial intelligence businesses.

    However, Future Fund Managing Partner Gary Black argued that Wall Street expects several autonomous-driving companies to achieve unsupervised operations around a similar time. That could turn autonomous ride-hailing into a commodity rather than a winner-takes-all market.

    “WS analysts forecast valuations based on their projections of forward earnings and cash flows, not based on where the first real number prints,” Black said.

    Black compared today’s bullish Robotaxi forecasts with claims from five years ago that Tesla would sell 20 million EVs annually by 2030. He called that assumption “absurd,” saying it would have required Tesla to capture about 20% of the global EV market.

    Retail Traders Turn Bullish on TSLA

    On Stocktwits, retail sentiment for TSLA jumped to ‘bullish’ from ‘neutral’ levels a day earlier, amid a 1,444% surge in 24-hour message volumes.

    One user weighed in on the Cybercab event and said, “Fleet size and paid miles per car would tell us far more about the business than the presentation itself.”

    Despite Tesla’s August rally, its stock has lagged its “Magnificent Seven” peers so far this year. Tesla remains the group’s worst performer, down about 18%.

    Another user said, “$TSLA traders now expecting a quick move back to reclaim $400 after bullish updates on cybercab, semi and optimus from the company”

    Paris Hilton, the surprise star of Karl Lagerfeld’s last two campaigns, will remain with the fashion house for another year. She will appear alongside a new digital character known as Not-Karl, whose white hair, ponytail, sunglasses and witty repartee in German-accented English echo the late designer’s signature look and personality.

    Revealing the contract extension exclusively to WWD, Karl Lagerfeld chief executive officer Pier Paolo Righi said Hilton’s first two campaigns — for fall 2025 and spring 2026 — bolstered its business “in a very tangible way across every region of the world and has helped the brand continue to grow in an environment that has become increasingly challenging.”

    Righi attributed the campaigns’ success to Hilton’s unexpected role as the brand’s leading woman.

    “[Hilton] wasn’t an obvious choice — and that was precisely the point. It made people stop and take notice,” he told WWD. “In that sense, it felt very much in Karl’s spirit: unexpected, provocative and culturally relevant.”

    He cited a positive response from consumers and brand partners, along with Hilton’s full-throttle enthusiasm and “passionate engagement” with the partnership.

    “She has made this partnership very personal and loves being an integral part of Karl’s future legacy,” Righi said. “She genuinely loves the brand and was wearing our collections long before our partnership began.”

    Part of the brand’s lore is a rapturous, still mysterious conversation between Hilton and the late German designer in 2006 at a Dom Pérignon event in Los Angeles.

    Both Lagerfeld and Hilton helped define an era in which celebrity became synonymous with brand identity. A pioneering influencer and savvy entrepreneur, Hilton has built a career spanning modeling, music, media, beauty, investing and philanthropy.

    Not-Karl Brings Karl Lagerfeld’s Wit to the Campaign

    The centerpiece of the fall 2026 campaign is a short black-and-white video depicting Hilton sparring with Not-Karl as the character appears on multiple monitors.

    “But you sound like Karl,” Hilton implores. “You just look a little different.”

    “I like to reinvent myself,” the character shoots back.

    Asked about the genesis of Not-Karl, Righi replied:

    “One of the things we consistently hear from people around the world — whether they knew Karl personally or simply observed him from a distance — is how much they loved his wit, intelligence and the way he interacted with people.

    “The idea behind Not-Karl was to find a completely new way of bringing some of that spirit back into the conversation, using a tool that is as forward-looking as Karl himself always was.

    “We are not trying to recreate Karl,” Righi stressed. “The name itself introduces the irony and playfulness that were so much a part of his personality.”

    The precise technology behind the digital character remains under wraps, but Not-Karl captures Lagerfeld’s accent, intonations and blunt way of speaking.

    According to the Lagerfeld company, the voice is synthetically generated specifically for the character and is based on a two-hour recording by a voice-over artist that was later refined by machines and humans.

    Hilton embraced the unusual addition to the shoot.

    “Having Not-Karl on set made this shoot feel so iconic and just unexpected — it brought such a magical energy,” she said.

    Kit Butler joins Hilton in some frames to model Karl Lagerfeld menswear. The campaign showcases the Karl Lagerfeld, Karl Lagerfeld Jeans and Karl Lagerfeld Paris lines.

    Karl Lagerfeld Plans Paris Fashion Week Event

    Righi said he has no “rigid roadmap” for Not-Karl, describing the character as “another way to interact with our audience that reflects something of the soul, wit and perspective of the man.”

    “I can imagine Not-Karl becoming an ongoing way of engaging with our consumers in a witty and entertaining way — commenting on style, offering advice, reacting to culture or simply talking about life,” he added.

    The brand plans to celebrate the fall 2026 campaign with an event during Paris Fashion Week.
