    Frodin, Body Double for Serena Actor in ‘King Richard,’ Plays at US Open

    Thea Frodin will make her US Open singles debut Tuesday against Elena Rybakina, the No. 2 player in women’s tennis. The 17-year-old Los Angeles native faces a major challenge, but she has already shown she can hit the ball like Serena Williams — at least on a movie set.

    From “King Richard” to the US Open

    Frodin served as the body double for Demi Singleton, who played a young Serena Williams in the 2021 film King Richard. On Tuesday, she will return to the court in front of cameras as herself when she takes on Rybakina.

    “I’ve worked so hard to try and get to this level, and to have an opportunity like this is just really special for me,” Frodin said Monday in a phone interview.

    Competitive tennis helped Frodin reach the US Open. She won the USTA Billie Jean King Girls’ 18s National Championships, earning a wild card into the tournament’s singles field.

    Tennis also opened the door to Hollywood. Frodin was competing in California’s 10-and-under division when she won the sectional singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles. She was then invited to audition for the role, which required her to serve as Singleton’s on-court body double.

    “I was on set for six months and I got to be alongside some really cool actors and obviously Will Smith, and just the whole experience was super cool for me,” Frodin said. “And obviously to be able to play the double, or the role of somebody that I look up to and I have always been inspired by was truly, like, a very special experience for me.”

    Smith won an Oscar for playing Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams.

    Frodin found it relatively easy to reproduce Serena Williams’ swings because she was already familiar with them after watching the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion throughout her career. The challenge was returning to her own technique once filming ended.

    “It’s actually funny. After I was done with with the movie, I actually got into the habit of using, or playing with her strokes, and I couldn’t switch back to mine because I was so used to hers,” Frodin said. “So my parents — I mean, obviously it’s a great person to replicate — but my parents were a little bit upset because I was playing like Serena, so it took me a while to get back to my normal technique.”

    Frodin’s first WTA Tour-level match

    Frodin played in the US Open doubles tournament last year but has never met Serena or Venus Williams. Her match against Rybakina will be her first at the WTA Tour level. Earlier this year, she lost in qualifying in Miami in her previous attempt to reach that level.

    Frodin has one year remaining in high school and has not decided what she will do afterward. She said she would consider another opportunity in Hollywood if one arises.

    “Obviously, my No. 1 focus always has been tennis, but I’ve always had this little thought in the back of my mind. I feel like it would be really cool if I could somehow balance both,” Frodin said. “I mean, I loved every second of being in that kind of environment, of that kind of acting life. I enjoy it a lot and yeah, if it’s even possible, I don’t mind having that as a side gig, you know?”

    Walmart Mangoes Recalled Over Potential Salmonella Contamination

    Federal regulators have announced a recall of 302 boxes of Martina-brand mangoes sold at select Walmart stores because of potential Salmonella contamination.

    Panorama Produce initiated the recall after Food and Drug Administration testing reportedly detected Salmonella in mangoes grown on the same farm as the recalled fruit. The mangoes that tested positive were not distributed in U.S. commerce, officials said.

    “The recalled mangoes and the sampled mangoes share the same source, therefore Panorama Produce has initiated a recall,” the notice said.

    The recalled mangoes were sold at select Walmart locations in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. They were distributed between Aug. 10 and Aug. 21 in nine-count boxes containing large mangoes.

    The affected fruit bears a light blue Agrofepac sticker, is labeled “Produce of Mexico” and has PLU number 4584 and UPC number 07503061948050.

    No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled mangoes.

    What consumers should do

    Consumers should discard the recalled mangoes or return them to the place of purchase to avoid potential health risks. Anyone who believes they may have become ill after eating the product should contact a health care provider, regulators said.

    “Panorama Produce is an experienced produce importer committed to a strong focus on food safety. This recall is being conducted voluntarily and in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration,” the company said, according to regulators

    Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

    In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and cause more severe illnesses, including arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.

    Philadelphia Phillies Close Out August With Tight Win in the Desert

    August delivered a historic run for the Philadelphia Phillies, who closed the month with a tense 2-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Monday night.

    The win gave Philadelphia a 21-7 record in August, the best mark in Major League Baseball. The Phillies’ dominant month came after they struggled to a 9-15 record in July.

    “Twenty-two and six would have been all right, too,” manager Don Mattingly joked.

    With the regular season entering its final month, the Phillies are tied with the Chicago Cubs for the National League’s top wild-card position. They trail the first-place Atlanta Braves by four games in the NL East with 24 games remaining. Philadelphia and Atlanta will meet seven times over the next two weeks, beginning with Friday night’s series opener at Citizens Bank Park.

    Although the Phillies are chasing the Braves, Mattingly said the team remains focused on the immediate challenge. Monday’s game was the first of a series against the Diamondbacks, who are also firmly involved in the National League wild-card race.

    “It’s day-to-day business at this point,” Mattingly said. “You can’t worry about tomorrow. Just take care of today. Arizona is a difficult club. We have to win games. It’s as simple as that. We can’t look past anyone.”

    Philadelphia secured the win behind a strong start from Aaron Nola, effective relief pitching and important hits from Bryson Stott and Bryce Harper.

    Stott hit a 464-foot home run in the second inning, the longest of his career and the eighth-longest in the majors this season. Harper followed with an RBI double in the third inning, extending his on-base streak to 33 games.

    Those were the Phillies’ only runs, but their pitching made the lead hold up.

    Nola earned the win after allowing one run over five innings. He has posted a 2.50 ERA across his last seven starts.

    The right-hander had thrown 92 pitches through five innings and began the sixth with Philadelphia holding a one-run advantage. After quickly allowing a single and a walk, Nola was replaced by Alex McFarlane in a high-pressure situation. The 25-year-old rookie right-hander responded by recording three outs to preserve the lead.

    McFarlane’s biggest moment came after he fell behind Nolan Arenado 3-1. He recovered to strike out the veteran on a 99-mph fastball and a sweeper for the second out.

    “For a kid who debuted a month ago, the demeanor he has on the mound in a situation like that is pretty incredible,” catcher Garrett Stubbs said. “Arenado’s a really good hitter. You want to attack him and not be afraid of him. In that moment, you look out at him on the mound and he didn’t show anything but wanting to attack the zone.”

    Nola praised McFarlane’s performance.

    “That’s pretty special right there. Pretty awesome,” Nola said. “I left him in a tough spot, two guys on and no outs. He navigated through it really nicely. The strikeout of Arenado was pretty awesome. He’s got a lot of composure out there. He doesn’t really pitch like a rookie. He fills up the zone. I know he had a couple of three-ball counts, but that didn’t faze him. He’s electric.”

    McFarlane understood the challenge of facing Arenado.

    “Seeing Arenado in the box is a great thing,” he said. “The respect I have for that guy, watching him over the years. He’s a great hitter and Hall of Fame player. I love the opportunity to face those guys. It was great.”

    McFarlane has surrendered only one earned run in his first 10 1/3 major-league innings. He has appeared four times in the first seven games of Philadelphia’s road trip, throwing four scoreless innings without allowing a hit. He has walked two batters and struck out five.

    “He’s handled everything we’ve thrown at him,” Mattingly said. “We’ve put him in some tough spots lately. That was probably the toughest spot tonight. His stuff plays. When he’s in the zone and attacking, he’s pretty good. He doesn’t seem to be overwhelmed by anything at this point.”

    With the postseason race intensifying, McFarlane could become an important part of the Phillies’ bullpen.

    “This was a big game,” Mattingly said. “He was a factor tonight. He’s got stuff. He’s throwing strikes for the most part. He’s got weapons. When you throw 102 (mph) with a good slider and can sink it, as well, you’ve got weapons.”

    Orion Kerkering and Brooks Raley combined for a scoreless seventh inning. Jose Alvarado worked around trouble to post a scoreless eighth, and Jhoan Duran survived two infield hits in the ninth to record his 29th save. Duran finished the game with the potential tying run on third base.

    The Phillies have won 14 of their last 16 games.

    Philadelphia now turns to September, with Jesús Luzardo scheduled to start Tuesday night.

    Phillies Add Rafael Marchan and Grant Holman

    Major League rosters expand to 28 players Tuesday, and the Phillies will add catcher Rafael Marchan and right-handed reliever Grant Holman.

    Marchan went on the injured list in late July with left knee tendinitis and had been completing a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

    Holman, 26, was claimed by Philadelphia off waivers from Detroit in May. He appeared in 20 games for Lehigh Valley, recording a 3.12 ERA with 25 strikeouts and five walks over 26 innings.

    Holman, who has previous major-league experience with the Athletics, has already played for five organizations in 2026. He was waived four times.

    Meghan Markle’s UK Return Sparks Palace ‘Nightmare,’ Expert Warns

    Meghan Markle is returning to Britain with more independence than she had as a working royal, a move royal experts say could test Buckingham Palace’s boundaries.

    Markle, 45, and Prince Harry, 41, have relocated to the United Kingdom with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, for an extended stay. The couple will remain private, non-working members of the royal family.

    The Sussexes are expected to establish a private residence outside London while maintaining their home in Montecito, California. Their ability to pursue media, business and public-facing projects from Britain could create new tension with the institution Markle once represented, royal observers told Fox News Digital.

    Why Meghan Markle’s return could challenge Buckingham Palace

    “The nightmare for the Palace is that they can’t be controlled,” royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital. “Diary clashes will probably mean royal engagements are overshadowed by what the Sussexes choose to do and what they are, or are not, asked to by the Palace.”

    Kinsey Schofield, host of YouTube’s “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered,” said Buckingham Palace will have “very little control” over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s public and commercial activities because they no longer represent Harry’s father, King Charles, as working royals.

    “They are private citizens and no longer working on behalf of the King, so Buckingham Palace isn’t approving Meghan’s interviews, appearances, Instagram posts or commercial projects,” Schofield said.

    “But Harry is still the King’s son and Meghan is still the Duchess of Sussex, so there is an inevitable association with the monarchy,” she added. “That’s the complicated part. They can operate independently while still benefiting from an enormous amount of public interest that exists because of Harry’s DNA.”

    Markle’s status as a private citizen living in the U.K. marks a sharp departure from her time as a working royal, when Palace protocols and communications staff shaped much of her public role. The former “Suits” star is returning with her own career, team and support system, according to People magazine.

    “She has been vocal about how she felt about it before, but that doesn’t mean things are going to be exactly the same again,” an ally told People. “It doesn’t mean it can’t be different and can’t change.”

    Another source told the outlet that the Sussexes’ support network is “stronger now than it ever was to protect her — to protect them.”

    Palace access remains a source of influence

    Schofield said Buckingham Palace still has an important means of influencing the couple’s relationship with the monarchy.

    “The palace can’t control what they do, but it can control access to the institution. It can decide how much proximity they have to working royals, royal residences, and official events,” she said. “That is where the palace still has considerable leverage.”

    “Meghan may be returning without palace restrictions, but she is also returning without palace protection,” she added. “You don’t get one without losing the other.”

    Although Buckingham Palace can limit the Sussexes’ access to official royal events, that would not prevent their public appearances, announcements or business ventures from attracting attention. Fitzwilliams said the situation could become especially difficult when public activities overlap with the carefully coordinated royal calendar.

    “The problem is that royal diaries are planned well in advance,” Fitzwilliams said. “Here there are likely to be numerous clashes, and this will fuel fascination with the Sussexes.”

    Schofield said a competing announcement would not necessarily violate a formal Palace rule, but longstanding expectations govern the timing of public engagements.

    “If Meghan were repeatedly scheduling appearances or announcements to coincide with major royal engagements, people would notice,” she said. “She might not be breaking a written rule, but there are conventions and courtesies around these things.”

    “If you consistently attempt to overshadow the working Royal Family, eventually the pattern becomes the story,” Schofield added.

    Harry and Meghan’s trust deficit with the royal family

    Schofield said concerns about competing headlines echo the central issue Queen Elizabeth II faced when Harry and Markle stepped back from their roles as working royals in 2020. The late queen rejected a proposed hybrid arrangement that would have allowed the couple to pursue financial independence while continuing official duties and retaining the benefits of their royal connection.

    “This is essentially the dilemma the late Queen was trying to avoid with the original ‘half-in, half-out’ rejection,” Schofield said. “Meghan can enjoy enormous interest because she married into the Royal Family without having to behave or work like a royal.”

    “But there is another side to that bargain,” she continued. “She doesn’t have the institution behind her anymore either. There is no royal communications operation required to defend her, no royal security, and no guaranteed place at major royal occasions. A lot of the perks are gone.”

    The question of access is further complicated by the fractured relationship between the Sussexes and the royal family. The couple discussed tensions within the family during their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, their 2022 Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan” and Harry’s 2023 memoir “Spare.”

    Schofield said that history could make Palace staff particularly wary as Harry and Markle establish a new life in the U.K.

    “There is also a significant trust deficit,” she said. “Harry published private family conversations in ‘Spare,’ and Harry and Meghan have discussed private royal relationships publicly in interviews and their Netflix series. That history doesn’t disappear simply because they’re living in Britain again.”

    British broadcaster Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that Charles and his son and heir, Prince William, may need to establish clearer expectations about the Sussexes’ access to official engagements and the working royal family.

    “Formalities need to be drawn up, put in place and made clear to all,” Chard said. “These will essentially be the ‘dos and don’ts’ formalities.”

    Sussex children reconnect with Harry’s family heritage

    According to People magazine, the Sussexes’ return to the U.K. is about more than their business interests or public profiles. The outlet reported that the decision was “taken as a family,” with the couple viewing a longer stay in Britain as an opportunity to connect their children with Harry’s heritage.

    Earlier this summer, Archie and Lilibet accompanied their parents on a trip to the U.K., where they reunited with Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, the king’s country home. The children also visited Althorp, the childhood home and final resting place of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. They were joined by Harry’s uncle and Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, along with members of the late Princess of Wales’ family.

    “Meghan feels very fortunate that they’re able to give Archie and Lilibet the opportunity to experience both worlds,” a source told People. Another insider shared that Harry wants his children “to understand the world he grew up in and where their family comes from.”

    Could Meghan Markle take a cautious approach?

    Not every royal observer expects Markle’s return to immediately deepen the rift. Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News Digital that she may take a restrained approach similar to that of William’s wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, as the family establishes its new life in Britain.

    “I feel Meghan will play a very cautious hand at first similar to that devised by Kate and be the very epitome of decorum, style and elegance,” Turner said.

    “The ability Meghan has is real empathy with people, a strong intelligent mind capable of using well rehearsed opinions to drive forward opportunities for many cultures and communities in Britain,” he added.

    “I think she will relish the chance to prove her doubters wrong and be an asset in waiting for the Royal family again.”

    Wavves has confirmed that Cherry Soda, the collaborative album with Say Anything frontman Max Bemis, will no longer be released in its planned form following allegations that Bemis sent inappropriate direct messages to teenage fans. The album had been scheduled for release on September 18.

    Wavves addresses the fate of Cherry Soda

    Wavves frontman Nathan Williams discussed the album in a series of messages posted in a fan chat on Patreon, screenshots of which were shared on Reddit. Williams said he is not friends with Bemis and described problems with the pop-punk musician during the recording process.

    “In [sic] a personal level I don’t know the guy,” Williams wrote. “I’ve hung out with him 3 times when he was on [sic] the studio, on a professional level he was awful.” Williams said he was “about to lose 200k” because of “this gross loser” and could go into debt. “I don’t want to be associated with the guy, and so it’s as simple as that,” he said of his decision not to release Cherry Soda. “Whatever I lose doesn’t matter at that point.”

    Williams also told patrons that the “real thing that hurts” was the imbalance in the album’s creation. “he spent 3 days in the studio and I spent 11 months.”

    When asked whether he could re-record Cherry Soda without Bemis’ contributions, Williams said he is discussing that possibility and that “it wouldn’t be hard,” because Bemis “barely wrote anything.” Re-recording the album would delay its release, but it could prevent shelving the project from depleting Williams’ savings if he “can at least figure that out, though the downside is that 10,000 records were already pressed.”

    Scrapped Alternative Press cover revealed

    Alongside the update on Cherry Soda—which may still be released without Bemis’ involvement—Williams shared a now-scrapped Alternative Press cover showing him choke-holding Bemis.

    “If the picture doesn’t tell you the story of how I felt about him, I dunno what will,” Williams wrote. “Obviously now this isn’t coming out so. Fuck it.”

    Allegations involving Max Bemis

    The decision follows allegations from young fans who said Bemis crossed personal boundaries. Screenshots from a conversation between Bemis and a 19-year-old fan appeared to show him allegedly saying that he wanted to kiss them. After the fan objected and cited their age difference, Bemis reportedly argued that being attracted to younger people was “a pretty common kink.”

    The fan continued to express discomfort, telling Bemis they were “probably the same age as some of your kids.” The Say Anything frontman responded, “That’s gross and no. I don’t like what you just said. My daughter is 13.” He added, “I don’t think you suck in any way but you’re making me feel bad for simply being me.”

    After the allegations gained traction, Say Anything issued a statement on Instagram announcing that Bemis’ upcoming performances on his joint tour with Wavves “have been postponed” “due to the need to prioritize his mental health and personal well-being.”

    “Max will be taking the necessary time away to focus on his mental health,” the statement continued. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding, patience and respect for his privacy at this time.”

    Giants WR Malik Nabers Feeling ‘good’ but Mum on Week 1 Availability

    New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers says he feels “real good” ahead of the team’s Sept. 13 season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, but he remains cautious about declaring himself ready to play in Week 1.

    Nabers is recovering from a torn ACL suffered last season and has progressed to full practices throughout the summer. His rehabilitation has continued to move in a positive direction.

    “I feel pretty good. I feel real good to be honest,” Nabers said. “Like I said, you’re going to feel good but there’s still some things that you’re going to have to check off the box for you to participate. So I’m still going through that, still listening to the trainer, still listening to doctors and sharing everything with them.”

    Nabers said the final checkpoints would remain an internal matter and added that they were not anything significant. He acknowledged some uncertainty over whether he would immediately return as the same player he was before the injury, although he does not expect that to be a long-term concern.

    “Will it take some time? Who knows?” he said. “But I know for sure if I’m out there, I’m going to run some routes.”

    The dynamic wide receiver has participated in team drills this summer and recently stopped wearing the red no-contact jersey typically reserved for quarterbacks. Despite that progress, he has not yet confirmed that he will play against Dallas. The expectation is that he will be on the field unless he suffers a setback.

    The Giants and Nabers have appeared to be preparing for the Sunday night opener against Dallas since the beginning of training camp.

    “My mind is focused on playing the regular season. Playing whenever that is. Playing what[ever] team that is,” Nabers said when asked whether he was concentrating on preparing for the Cowboys. “I’m going to be making sure that I’m ready to go out there and I’m healthy enough to play all four quarters and that nobody’s got to make sure I’m not in on every play or they have to make sure I got enough snaps to play or my snaps are limited.”

    “So that’s the main focus is just trying to be out there as much as I can.”

    Odell Beckham Jr. makes Giants roster

    Regardless of Nabers’ role in Week 1, the Giants will have Odell Beckham Jr. back at wide receiver for the first time in eight years. Beckham made the 53-man roster Sunday.

    Coach John Harbaugh plans to use Beckham as part of the receiver rotation, whether he lines up as the fourth or fifth option.

    “He’ll be in that receiver group,” Harbaugh said. “He’ll be rotating in different personnel groups. He’ll be playing.”

    Beckham earned the role with a strong summer and said he felt unfamiliar pressure while competing for a roster spot. He had never faced that situation during his professional career.

    After spending a year out of the league, making the Giants’ roster was an emotional moment for Beckham. His family had been in town to watch the final preseason game just days earlier.

    “I had kind of those tears when I got back to the hotel after figuring out I’m going to be here,” Beckham said. “It’s an opportunity to rewrite some of the last bit of the chapters. Don’t know [if this is the] last year [of my career] or whatever it is, I just know I’m going to give my all.”

    Beckham spent the first five seasons of his career with the Giants after New York selected him with the 12th pick in the draft out of LSU. He made an immediate impact, recording at least 1,200 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons.

    Beckham achieved those milestones while wearing the No. 13 jersey, which he made famous. This summer, however, he has worn No. 3 while Jalin Hyatt has worn No. 13.

    Beckham said there would be a “conversation” about the jersey now that he has made the team and Hyatt is on the practice squad.

    Building the Next Chapter of UCLA Athletics

    UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk announced a new strategy for UCLA Athletics, including a leadership change and plans to develop new revenue through partnerships, licensing and other ventures.

    Martin Jarmond will leave his role as director of athletics after six years, while UCLA alumnus and former student-athlete Tim Harris will serve as CEO and Director of UCLA Athletics. Harris, a veteran sports executive who spent more than 35 years with the L.A. Lakers, will serve UCLA on a pro bono basis.

    Dear Bruin Community:

    Today, I want to share our new path forward for UCLA Athletics. We have all watched as the landscape of college athletics has transformed in recent years, driven by the introduction of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), new models for student-athlete compensation, and a rapidly changing sports marketplace. UCLA must have an athletics model that leads — not just keeps pace.

    For generations, UCLA has produced champions and Olympic legends. We are the university of John Wooden. Our student-athletes have inspired generations of Bruins and captured the hearts of people around the world. And their achievements reflect something fundamental about UCLA: we believe that excellence has no single arena — it is found in academics, scholarly and creative work; in student athletic achievement; and in the pursuit of new possibilities. That is the tradition we want to carry forward, and that is why we must position UCLA as a leader in this evolving landscape.

    UCLA Athletics currently carries a significant financial deficit, and its current path is not sustainable. Now is the moment to build a model for Athletics that protects the breadth of our program, creates new opportunities for student-athletes and coaches, and supports itself through the revenue it generates. I believe UCLA should help lead the transformation of intercollegiate athletics: our future must be shaped by purpose — not by pressure.

    As we shape what comes next, Martin Jarmond will leave his role as director of athletics today. I am grateful to Martin for his extraordinary service to UCLA and for his leadership over the past six years. During his tenure, UCLA’s student-athletes continued to achieve at the highest levels, including three NCAA championship titles last year.  

    To move us forward, I have asked Tim Harris to serve as CEO and Director of UCLA Athletics. Tim is a proud alumnus and former student-athlete — simply put, he loves UCLA and cares deeply about our future. He is also a veteran sports executive who spent more than 35 years with the L.A. Lakers, including serving as its president of business operations. Tim knows what it takes to grow a world-class sports organization and global brand, and he holds longstanding relationships throughout Los Angeles and globally. He brings decades of experience in creating partnerships and new sources of revenue, along with a personal focus on centering the student-athlete experience. I am especially grateful for Tim’s willingness to serve UCLA on a pro bono basis. 

    Tim will develop a new strategy to grow revenue through partnerships, licensing and other ventures, while ensuring that our student-athletes and coaches have the required support to compete at the highest level. 

    This work will require the talent and commitment of many people. I want to acknowledge our exceptional coaches, student-athletes and staff for the dedication and passion they bring to our Bruin family every day. Their commitment is at the heart of what makes UCLA Athletics special.

    Athletics contributes much more to UCLA than what happens on the playing field or on screens. It expands access to higher education, enriches student experience, and builds community within and beyond our campus. It prepares student-athletes for life. And it provides a platform for the fair competition, teamwork and service-oriented leadership we hold dear.

    I look forward to working with all of you to build the next chapter of UCLA Athletics.
