The Daily Show Gleefully Roasts Marco Rubio’s Online Passport Application Announcement

White House Unveils Revamped America.gov and Online Passport Process

The White House recently announced a revamped America.gov website, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio presenting a new online passport application process in a promotional-style demonstration.

The presentation drew attention from The Daily Show host Jordan Klepper, who compared Rubio’s appearance to a technology product launch. “Why are you doing this like an Apple product launch?” jokes Daily Show host Jordan Klepper in the clip above.

Klepper then added, “And one more thing: This passport folds.” The segment showed Rubio demonstrating a passport design in which the eagle appears to fly as readers flip through its pages.

Jordan Klepper Mocks Passport Design Demonstration

The Daily Show segment focused on the theatrical presentation of the passport’s eagle effect. After watching Rubio demonstrate the feature, Klepper reacted, “Holy shit!”

Klepper continued the joke by comparing the visual effect with early animation technology: “This is going to totally blow the minds of kids in 1928 who haven’t seen Steamboat Willie.”

Why This Matters

The announcement places the revamped America.gov website and the online passport application process in the spotlight while also highlighting the presentation style used to introduce the changes. The passport demonstration became the focus of The Daily Show’s satirical response because of the eagle illusion built into the page design.
