  • iPhone 18 Release Date: Why It Could Arrive Later Than Expected

iPhone 18 Release Date: Why It Could Arrive Later Than Expected

Apple may change how it releases the iPhone 18 lineup. After more than a decade of launching most new iPhone models at the same time, the company is reportedly considering a staggered release schedule, according to Bloomberg.

Under the rumored plan, the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 could arrive in spring 2027, while the more premium iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would launch in September. Apple’s first foldable iPhone, rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra, could also debut alongside the Pro models, although supply chain challenges could delay its availability.

The iPhone 18 lineup is also expected to feature smaller Dynamic Islands. The cameras may introduce variable aperture technology, which could appeal to photography enthusiasts. However, determining the release dates for the iPhone 18 family is more difficult than usual because of the rumored shift in Apple’s launch strategy.

Here is what current reports suggest about the iPhone 18 release date, the expected launch schedule and Apple’s historical iPhone release patterns.

Read More: Win an Apple Watch — Round 3 of CNET’s Guessing Game Is Live Now

iPhone 18 event: When will Apple announce it?

Apple is expected to unveil its latest iPhone lineup on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET during a special event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The CNET team will be on the ground to report on Apple’s latest devices.

Based on Apple’s usual schedule, preorders could begin on the Friday after the event, likely Sept. 11, with the phones arriving in stores the following Friday, likely Sept. 18.

The event is expected to stream on Apple’s website, YouTube, Apple TV and the Apple developer app.

iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and foldable iPhone

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are likely to launch in September, following the release pattern Apple has used for its flagship iPhones since the iPhone 5 generation. Apple typically releases its highest-end devices before the holiday shopping season.

Apple’s first foldable phone, rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra, may be available for preorder alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models but could ship later. Possible causes include supply chain constraints involving the hinge and displays.

Historically, Apple has often released newly added iPhone models about a month after the initial models, although the iPhone Air may be an exception. Previous examples include the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 14 Plus.

iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 release timing

The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 could face a significantly delayed release. The change may reflect a new two-season launch strategy, with premium iPhones arriving in the fall and more affordable models launching in the spring.

“Apple will likely reveal its first foldable iPhone on September 9 along with the iPhone 18 Pro series,” said David Naranjo, associate director of Counterpoint Research. “The base iPhone 18 model announcements are expected to be pushed into spring 2027. This staggered launch marks a notable change in Apple’s release cadence, with a strong emphasis on premiumization.”

It is not yet clear whether the delay would result from manufacturing restrictions, RAM shortages or a decision to prioritize Apple’s most advanced hardware. If the reports are accurate, customers looking for an entry-level iPhone could have to wait until 2027.

The strategy could also encourage customers who would normally choose a standard iPhone to purchase a higher-end Pro model rather than wait for the less expensive device. The timing would reportedly coincide with Apple’s E-series launch.

    iPhone 18E

Apple’s E-series iPhones have typically launched in the spring after the company’s more powerful models, following the pattern previously used by the iPhone SE line.

The iPhone 18E is expected to be a lower-cost, pared-down version of the standard iPhone 18. It would likely offer essential features from the current generation without many of the premium features found on Apple’s flagship models.

The iPhone 17E launched at $599 and was positioned as a balance between functionality and affordability. It remains unclear whether the iPhone 18E will also receive the price increase expected for this generation of iPhones.

Apple announced the iPhone 17E in March, and the device went on sale the following week. If Apple follows the same pattern, the iPhone 18E could arrive in early or mid-March 2027. The standard iPhone 18 could potentially launch at the same time.

  • St. Louis CITY’s New Identity Fuels Historic Turnaround

St. Louis CITY’s New Identity Fuels Historic Turnaround

St. Louis CITY SC carry a 12-game unbeaten streak across all competitions into Sunday Night Soccer presented by Continental Tire against FC Dallas (7 p.m. ET | Apple TV). The run has lifted the club from the bottom of the Western Conference to sixth place, putting CITY firmly in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs race during Yoann Damet’s first season as head coach.

St. Louis have played some of MLS’s most progressive, possession-focused soccer during the surge, using quick combinations and sweeping switches of play to stretch opposing defenses. MLS on Apple TV analyst Bradley Wright-Phillips called them “one of the best teams to watch, on the eye” during an interview with Damet last week.

The transformation has come despite a roster largely assembled around a more frenetic style introduced by Lutz Pfannenstiel, the club’s former sporting director who led CITY into MLS as an expansion side in 2023. Less-heralded players including Simon Becher, Dante Polvara and Daniel Edelman have become important contributors while producing some of the best form of their careers.

“I’m very pleased with where we’re at in terms of our identity,” Damet told MLSsoccer.com earlier this month, “and the way we defend and the way we attack, and the way we’re creating chances. I think it fits perfectly the group we’ve got, and their qualities.

“I think the players enjoy the way we play,” he added. “That’s the environment we’re trying to create.”

    Building belief in St. Louis

Some fans have dubbed the team ‘The Ravioli Boyz,’ a reference to the fried pasta dish that is a cherished local staple. The nickname also reflects a side of CITY that has shown considerable resilience.

St. Louis produced a 2-1 comeback victory over an in-form Houston Dynamo FC last week, knocking the Texans out of first place in the Western Conference. The club also mounted two dramatic comebacks during its ongoing U.S. Open Cup run, which resumes next month with a semifinal against the Colorado Rapids.

“We spoke about belief, making them believe that they can play this way,” explained Damet, whose approach reflects his time working with Wilfried Nancy at CF Montréal and Columbus Crew, as well as a year under Greg Vanney with the LA Galaxy and their second team.

“When you arrive in front of the players and you tell them, ‘OK, we’re going to work and play a little different,’ there is always a period of acclimation and also a period of questioning. Can we do it? Are we confident enough to do it? And that’s where it’s been very fun for me to see the players embrace it.”

St. Louis CITY departures test fan patience

The team’s progress has been harder for some of its most passionate supporters to appreciate. The mood around the CITY fanbase has become conflicted as positive results have coincided with the departures of two of the club’s most productive and popular players.

Designated Player Marcel Hartel, St. Louis’ leading scorer this season, left after expressing a desire to return to his native Germany with his young family for personal reasons. STL transferred him to 2.Bundesliga club Hannover 96 earlier this month for a reported $1 million, a deal that, in current sporting director Corey Wray’s words, prioritized the “human” side over business considerations.

Eduard Löwen, STL’s all-time assists leader and a beloved figure since the club’s inaugural season, then moved to the San Jose Earthquakes in a trade made official this week. The German playmaker had developed deep ties to the community, particularly while his wife Ilona battled brain cancer, a fight that claimed her life earlier this year.

Löwen and the club could not agree on a new contract as his current deal entered its final months. They therefore worked with him to find a new team, further testing the fans’ faith. With only days remaining in the summer transfer window, impatience is growing as supporters await reinforcements for the two high-profile departures.

“Every time you post I get angry,” wrote one CITY supporter in reply to one of the club’s social-media channels. “Which shouldn’t be the case because we haven’t lost since May.”

A column by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Lynn Worthy described the moves as a “unique way to entertain and provoke fans” during the unbeaten run.

The club’s decision-makers can likely understand the skepticism. The start of the season tested their own belief, with the current surge following a difficult opening stretch that produced just one win in the first 10 games and included several brutally unlucky breaks.

“The process, the underlying metrics, the things we’re looking at just watching the game, and the chances we’re creating, were all super positive,” explained Wray, Pfannenstiel’s successor, to MLSsoccer.com last week. “Then it’s about, how much appetite for losing do we have as a group? Do we blow it up? These are all, like, human challenges that you have to really believe in the project.”

    Evidence of progress

As St. Louis worked to find its footing, Wray received what he jokingly calls “a crappy award” from executives at opposing clubs.

“People are coming up to us [saying], ‘Wow, you guys are going to be good. Sorry we beat you, but that was the hardest game we’ve played,’” he recalled. “It doesn’t get you so far, but it makes us feel like, OK, our peers can see.

“Thankfully, it turned when it did.”

Wray was a behind-the-scenes contributor to successful projects at Toronto FC, Columbus and Montréal. He met Damet during his time with the Crew and was impressed by the Frenchman, who at 36 is MLS’s youngest manager. Their working relationship has helped St. Louis become competitive faster than initially expected.

CITY have already added one Designated Player this summer in Danish winger Carlo Holse and would like to sign another player to lead the attack in the No. 9 role. Wray’s broader priority, however, is to build a club capable of sustained success.

“This club had a tremendous launch, but very much is in its infancy when it comes to the process, when it comes to everything we do day to day,” said Wray. “I think we provide that in terms of identity. There’s been a big shift in how the team plays on the field, aligned with some of my thoughts, and obviously aligned with how Yoann sees the game.

“Now we’re doing a lot of stuff also behind the scenes to improve the effectiveness of our recruitment, to build a high-performing culture, to really align with how this ownership sees organizations being run.”

St. Louis CITY target MLS Cup Playoffs and Open Cup success

Although St. Louis have not been among MLS’s biggest spenders since entering the league three years ago, Wray says the ownership group has fully supported the club’s ambitions.

“I don’t see any limitation to what we can do, or what we’re looking to do from this ownership group. It’s never been a discussion with me. It’s all been about finding the right people, the right fit to elevate this project,” he said. “We want to be competitive. When you win, you’re relevant, and winning does cost a little bit of money.

“So there’s definitely been a renewed sense of ambition when it comes to that side since our arrival and planning and presentations.”

St. Louis is one of North America’s historic soccer centers, and CITY’s leaders are acutely aware of the sport’s deep roots in the region. That tradition helps drive the loud crowds at Energizer Park each week while also raising expectations, as the reaction to the Hartel and Löwen departures demonstrated.

Damet and Wray want to reward those supporters with an Open Cup title and a deep postseason run. They also believe the club must pursue success through a model that can be repeated year after year.

“There is a very strong fan base and very strong community that has a strong soccer heritage, and I think having that makes things exciting,” said Damet, “We’ve got a very unique setup where the stadium is packed every time, they’re pushing the team – at the same time they are demanding, which is good.

“It comes as a privilege to be able to do that, and to create something sustainable here in the city,” he added. “It comes with also some pressure that I enjoy and embrace, and I think the players and the staff do as well.”

Coco Gauff Supports Mother for Rejecting US Open Ticket Requests

Coco Gauff backs her mother’s message about US Open ticket requests

Coco Gauff said she supports her mother’s decision to address excessive US Open ticket requests from family members and friends, even though the tennis star was surprised to see the message on social media.

A day after Candi Gauff posted a “blunt but necessary statement” on Instagram saying her daughter’s tickets for the Grand Slam tournament were already allocated, Coco defended the post.

“Honestly, it was needed, and it was directed towards a few family and friends,” Gauff said Friday. “People come out of the woodwork. You haven’t spoken to someone for years. They don’t say, ‘Congrats’ or, ‘Happy birthday’ or nothing. Then they’re like, ‘Oh, I’m in New York, can I have eight tickets to your match in your box, please?”

Gauff had recently won the Cincinnati Open and initially believed her mother’s post, which included a photo of her holding the trophy, was a celebratory message about the victory. Instead, Candi Gauff used the post to set boundaries over US Open ticket requests.

“Unfortunately, I will not be able to hook you up with a ticket,” she wrote. “Please make arrangements to purchase a ticket. Side note, never ask for more than 2 tickets. Coco is grown now and she has her own friends that she is honoring [with] tickets for the match. Thank you for your continued support.”

Why Coco Gauff’s US Open matches are in high demand

Coco Gauff won the US Open in 2023, is ranked fourth in the world and is seeded fourth in this year’s women’s singles draw. As the most prominent American player at the tournament, she is a regular presence at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where her matches quickly become some of the most sought-after tickets.

Gauff’s parents and other members of her team handle most of the ticket messages, helping shield her from another unwanted distraction.

“We try our best to accommodate everyone, but some of the requests, you would be surprised at how absurd they are,” Gauff said. “I feel like my mom hit a tipping point because it’s been going on since 15, and they really are my safeguards and I am lucky they try to make sure no one is hitting up my phone, so I don’t really get many requests.”

Rather than continue dealing with requests from distant relatives or friends from elementary school, Gauff said her mother made the public statement to explain why she would no longer respond.

Gauff said her mom “wanted to post that because she is going to stop responding. At least they know why.”

Amanda Seyfried Lists Hollywood Hills Home for $3.2 Million

Amanda Seyfried is further establishing her East Coast roots after listing her 2,700-square-foot Los Angeles home for approximately $3.2 million. The Oscar-nominated actor primarily lives on a farm in upstate New York.

Seyfried purchased the traditional-style residence from her Jennifer’s Body co-star Adam Brody in 2011 for $1.85 million. Before Brody owned the property, it belonged to Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst.

Inside Amanda Seyfried’s Hollywood Hills home

Completed in 1916, the two-story Hollywood Hills house sits behind gates and tall hedges. The home includes three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a formal living room with a fireplace, a white-and-blue kitchen, a sunroom, a balcony, and a spacious porch overlooking the backyard.

The landscaped grounds feature a swimming pool and spa, pergola-shaded loungers, a detached garage converted into a gym, and gardens.

The vintage, countryside-inspired style associated with the The Testament of Ann Lee star is evident throughout the property. A breakfast nook is covered in floral wallpaper reminiscent of a Laura Ashley print, while dark hardwood floors and antique-style light fixtures add to the home’s historic character.

“I grew up in a stone house,” Seyfried told AD during a tour of her Manhattan pied-à-terre. “I just love history, and I love the smell of old wood. History has a smell to it. You know what I mean?”

The press release seemed to have been assembled by a man in golf-casual clothing who stared at his computer for half an hour before typing “cool urban street words, what are?” into an AI search box, then leaving for a quick strategy lunch with Roger from the Bluesky Synergy hub.

The song is genuinely good, because Central Cee is genuinely good. He is sharp and funny with words, snappy and clever, but also surprisingly tender and raw.

This may be an oh-no-dad’s-talking-about-rap moment, so feel free to scroll on. The story soon moves to Cole Palmer: why he is currently both the best English footballer and one of the easiest to love.

    Central Cee’s raw, fearless appeal

Central Cee is a significant figure, perhaps the biggest British recording artist right now. He is also unusually raw and fearless in what he says, in a way that feels distinct from the carefully managed modern public persona. That approach has got him into trouble at least once.

A few years ago, there was an uproar when Central Cee spoke out against sexual prejudice. This sounds as if it should have been entirely uncontroversial, except that his call for tolerance appeared in a lyric from the song Doja: “How can I be homophobic? My bitch is gay.”

There were obvious problems with that. While appearing to express a progressive sensibility, Central Cee had introduced an entirely new tier of contradiction. Essentially, he was saying: how can I be homophobic? I am far too busy being sexist.

The lyric caused understandable offence. The b-word is demeaning and cheap, whatever the intention. Don’t say it. Find better words. To his credit, Central Cee was good at explaining himself and apologising. He appeared open to other views and genuinely non-judgmental about people regardless of difference or identity, with the exception, naturally, of wastemen, mugs and snitches.

He seems to have been forgiven. More than that, he is now startlingly successful: the most-streamed British rap artist of all time. Young people respond to him hungrily. He seems adaptive and fitted to the modern world. In the Coca-Cola video, he looks blankly into the lens, giving you everything and nothing at once: risky, but also strangely fearless.

Why Cole Palmer has captured football fans

What does this have to do with Cole Palmer and the surge of heartfelt Palmer love across every platform after his brilliant performance against Fulham on Monday?

First, Palmer is good friends with Central Cee. He even attended the launch of the Coca-Cola song shortly before Chelsea’s Premier League opener. Palmer himself was sensational at Craven Cottage, gliding between the defensive lines with perfect touches and intriguing angles.

The reaction was significant too. Everyone went wild. In particular, passionate football men of a certain age went wild. “This boy is gold, this boy gets people off their seats,” the man in the TalkSport video chair growled, speaking from the gut and the spleen. It sounded less like football analysis than a brave, husky funeral elegy for a very loyal family dog.

That passion has an edge. It reflects how hungry people are for something different: a counterpoint to the dominance of systems football. Despite being entirely academy-coded, Palmer still seems like a unicorn in the modern game.

To the middle-aged traditional football fan, he can look like a flicker from a pre-digital memory: football in the age of maverick authenticity, mud, landlines, not wearing a seat belt, smoking in pubs and casually discarded woodland porn magazines. It is Barry Davies shouting, “Oh, it’s magnificent and can’t they just taste it” while mods throw darts at each other in the background, because old fun is the best fun.

That is, of course, both deluded and incorrect. Football encourages such feelings, and many middle-aged men already embody both versions of the past. But Palmer is genuinely unusual in the modern game. He turns up in strange spaces and finds the gullies and currents between those static pegs.

Right now, he may be the only truly creative English player, in the sense that he invents the game in front of him. In those moments, he delivers the pure pleasure of a story being told in real time.

He also looks unusual in an era of hyper-athletes. Palmer is light and mobile, able to turn with balletic grace. But he has a gangly, mischievous physicality too, like a very clever cartoon alpaca that has worked out how to wear a royal blue football kit and occasionally run around performing amusing celebrations.

Palmer’s future with Chelsea and England

Palmer will benefit from having a very good club manager who understands his position. At Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso designed an entire team around maximising Florian Wirtz, the “free electron” in the structure.

Beyond that, Palmer is clearly the player around whom the England team should have been built after Euro 2024. It made some logical sense not to select him for the World Cup, because merit and fitness matter too. But Thomas Tuchel now has to play Palmer, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane together, even if the rest of the team has to be packed with cement sacks and tins of beans to make it work. This is incredibly exciting, and there is literally no other point in playing these games.

But it is not only about the football. Palmer is also strangely likeable. There is a temptation to cast him as a Lego-haired blank, an urban idiot savant made entirely from white bread, energy drinks and discarded phone cases. Yet he is clearly very smart, and modern in his own way.

That is another element of the Palmer persona. He looks unbothered, wry and oddly gentle. The blankness is a form of protection, a way of existing in the middle of all that glare. Palmer gives you nothing to bite on and no gaps in the armour. He even seems strangely post-race, or simply beyond race: a bowl-headed omni-man.

It is both an attitude and a shield. Young people have a way of behaving online known as nonchalance, projecting indifference and impassive facial expressions, appearing comically unbothered while chaotic events unfold around them. In the photograph of Palmer with Central Cee at the Coca-Cola event, they are both doing it: staring blankly into the camera, open but also closed.

Palmer appears to do this naturally. He will sit with his legs crossed while a group of angry men brawl nearby on the pitch. He can look genuinely amused on a live television feed as the referee stands in the middle of the Chelsea huddle, creating one of the most comically strange sub-moments of the modern game.

There is a theory that nonchalance is a political attitude: a response from the post-Gen-Z demographic to the challenge of making the world around them less incoherent and less intrusive. It is a blank defence against the constant wall of noise, dogma and ideological boilerplate being hurled their way.

Even the way Palmer plays carries a kind of shrug: existential creativity, making up your own patterns, making the world small and sized for you, following the lines in front of you.

One of the best moments from Monday night came in his post-match interview. Sky reporter Emma Saunders asked Palmer: “How ready are you for this season?” His response was: “Did you not watch the game?” From an old-school, spam-faced football man, that might have sounded strange: slightly off in terms of the power dynamic, slightly man-woman.

But it was not that at all. Palmer was already laughing, and Saunders laughed back. It was simply a nice moment: banter, mate-chat, playing the game in front of you.

English football has an intriguing figure in Cole Palmer, not just a brilliant footballer but a distinct presence and a way of existing in the middle of all that heat. Let’s try not to break him this time.
