Motley Fool Stock Picks Beat the Market With a 37% Average Return in 2026

The Motley Fool’s stock recommendations generated an average return of 37% across nine picks released in early 2026, outperforming the broader market by approximately 29 percentage points, according to performance tracking by Wall Street Survivor as of May 2026.

The investment advisory service has more than 500,000 subscribers and provides two stock recommendations each month through its Stock Advisor program. Its two analyst teams—Hidden Gems, which looks for overlooked quality companies, and Rule Breakers, which targets first movers in emerging sectors—also publish monthly rankings of the service’s top 10 stocks.

Members receive access to detailed investment research, portfolio tracking tools, and three strategies tailored to different risk tolerances.

Motley Fool Stock Advisor’s long-term performance

Motley Fool Stock Advisor reported a 973% total return as of August 27, 2026, compared with a 213% gain for the S&P 500 over the same 24-year period since the service launched in February 2002. The 760-percentage-point difference reflects the service’s long-term approach of identifying strong companies early and holding them through multiple market cycles.

Several individual recommendations illustrate the potential impact of that strategy. Amazon, recommended on September 6, 2002, delivered a reported return of 34,003%. Netflix, selected on December 17, 2004, returned 44,246%, while Nvidia, recommended on April 15, 2005, gained 130,663%. Disney, selected on June 7, 2002, returned 6,250%.

How the Motley Fool’s analyst teams work

Co-founders David Gardner and Tom Gardner lead the service’s respective analyst teams. Tom Gardner’s team focuses on financially sound companies in beaten-down industries that may be positioned for a recovery. The team also considers the quality of a company’s financials and whether its management is aligned with shareholders.

David Gardner’s team searches for businesses positioned to benefit from long-term secular trends. Its strategy emphasizes identifying companies early, particularly those with sustainable competitive advantages.

Motley Fool Stock Advisor cost and features

Stock Advisor costs $199 per year and includes a 30-day money-back guarantee. Subscribers receive two new stock picks each month, a curated list of the service’s top 10 stocks, detailed research, portfolio tracking, and access to an online investor community.

The service’s record of outperforming the broader market over more than two decades has attracted individual investors looking for an alternative to passive index investing and short-term active trading.

Past performance does not guarantee future results. However, the service’s emphasis on fundamental analysis, long-term growth companies, and patient buy-and-hold investing may appeal to investors prepared to hold positions for at least five years and accept the risks of investing in individual stocks.

  • With Top Producers Returning, UNC Running Backs Poised for a Strong Start Under Bobby Petrino

With Top Producers Returning, UNC Running Backs Poised for a Strong Start Under Bobby Petrino

North Carolina’s running back room enters the 2026 season with returning production, added experience and several unproven players competing for opportunities. After ranking 14th among ACC teams in rushing yards last season, the Tar Heels bring back their top two rushers in sophomore Demon June and veteran Benjamin Hall.

The pair accounted for more than half of North Carolina’s rushing production in 2025. The backfield also welcomes former LSU running back Kaleb Jackson, along with several young players looking to establish themselves.

Demon June leads North Carolina’s backfield

June is expected to play a central role after leading North Carolina in rushing during his first-year season. He carried 84 times for 464 yards, scored two rushing touchdowns and added one receiving touchdown across 11 games.

The sophomore showed flashes of explosive ability, including a 148-yard performance against Richmond. That was the most rushing yards in a single game by a North Carolina first-year running back since Michael Carter ran for 157 yards against Virginia in 2017.

June’s usage and production were inconsistent, however. More than half of his rushing yards came in two games, and he finished the final four games of the season with 20 carries for 48 yards.

At his best, June can make explosive plays and develop into North Carolina’s primary running back. With more opportunities likely in the backfield this season, he has a chance to become a consistent contributor.

    Benjamin Hall brings experience

Hall has the potential to complement June effectively. The veteran was North Carolina’s second-leading rusher last season, recording 274 yards and two touchdowns on 71 carries.

His best performance came against California, when he rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Entering his fourth season, Hall provides valuable experience to a relatively uncertain position group.

Tar Heels add depth with Kaleb Jackson

North Carolina also has several returning players competing for backfield opportunities. Sophomore Jaylen McGill appeared in 10 games last season and recorded 19 rushing yards on seven carries. Junior Charleston French has totaled 87 rushing yards during his first two seasons with the Tar Heels.

The Tar Heels added redshirt junior Kaleb Jackson, who spent the first three seasons of his college career at LSU. Jackson recorded 331 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 82 career carries with the Tigers, though his opportunities were limited last season. He carried seven times for 16 yards across four games.

At 6-foot, 240 pounds, Jackson gives North Carolina a physical presence in the backfield and could provide an option in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

    Crew Davis adds future potential

North Carolina also added first-year running back Crew Davis, the lone running back recruit in the Tar Heels’ 2026 class. Davis arrives after a standout career at Iona Preparatory, where he was named MaxPreps New York Player of the Year as a junior. He rushed for 2,078 yards and 23 touchdowns during that season.

With June and Hall returning and Jackson joining the position group, Davis may have to wait for his opportunity. His high school production nevertheless gives North Carolina another potential option as it builds depth at running back.

The Tar Heels’ running back room combines returning production and experience with emerging potential. With offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino expected to use a balanced approach, the group’s ability to produce consistently will be crucial to North Carolina’s offensive performance throughout the 2026 season.

América vs. Puebla: Lineups and Win Probabilities

América will look to extend its unbeaten run and retain top spot in the Apertura 2026 standings when it hosts Puebla in Jornada 6.

The league leaders return to Liga MX action after securing a place in the Leagues Cup semifinals with a midweek victory over Columbus Crew. Guillermo Almada’s team is also preparing for the upcoming returns of Luis Malagón and Álex Zendejas, although uncertainty remains over the futures of Brian Rodríguez and Sebastián Cáceres.

    América vs. Puebla confirmed lineups

América: Fernando Tapia, Emilio Lara, Ramón Juárez, Miguel Vázquez, Dagoberto Espinoza, Ícaro Da Conceicao, Edwin Cerrillo, Alexis Gutiérrez, Oscar Perea, Diego Arriaga, Alejandro Cárdenas.

Puebla: Ricardo Gutiérrez, Juan Vargas, Facundo Almada, Fernando Monárrez, Íker Moreno, Alonso Ramírez, Carlos Baltazar, Alejandro Organista, Kevin Velasco, Brayan Garnica, Eduardo Mustre.

How América and Puebla enter the match

América defeated Juárez 2-1 in its previous league match at Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez before beating Columbus Crew during the week to book its place in the Leagues Cup semifinals.

Puebla has gone three matches without a defeat and earned three points in Jornada 5 with a 3-2 win over Santos at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc. La Franja is only one victory behind América and remains in the playoff qualification places. An away win against the leaders would provide Gerardo Espinoza’s side with a major confidence boost, although Puebla is not expected to enter the match as the favorite.

  • WR Diggs Signing Seen as Critical to 2026 Success, Survey Finds

WR Diggs Signing Seen as Critical to 2026 Success, Survey Finds

Hogs Haven’s latest Reacts survey asked readers which of six high-profile free-agent acquisitions would have the biggest positive impact on the Washington Commanders’ 2026 season. Stefon Diggs led the voting with 47%, followed by edge rusher Odafe Oweh at 29%.

The results highlight differing views on roster construction, financial investment and how Washington’s offseason moves could challenge lackluster national expectations for the 2026 season.

Stefon Diggs could raise both Washington’s ceiling and floor

Diggs’ 47% share of the vote suggests many Commanders fans see a true perimeter weapon as a major catalyst for offensive improvement. However, he received less than half of the total vote, reflecting debate over whether adding another high-volume receiver would produce the greatest marginal benefit.

With Terry McLaurin established as Washington’s primary receiving target, some fans believe the team could have generated a larger incremental impact by addressing other roster weaknesses. In a fully healthy offense, Diggs and McLaurin would naturally divide the available targets, potentially limiting each player’s individual statistical ceiling.

However, Diggs’ signing, which came one week into training camp, was also shaped by the lessons of the 2025 season. McLaurin missed seven games because of injury, while Noah Brown was sidelined for 13 games. The lack of receiving depth exposed the offense, causing the passing game to stagnate as opposing secondaries focused on Washington’s remaining options.

Diggs is therefore more than a luxury capable of raising the offense’s ceiling. He also provides insurance that raises its floor. Having two 1,000-yard receivers gives Washington a better chance of sustaining an effective passing game if injuries affect the receiving corps again.

When both players are healthy, their presence also creates a difficult schematic challenge for opposing defensive coordinators. Defenses cannot consistently shade safety help toward Washington’s primary passing-game threat when the offense has two proven perimeter targets.

Odafe Oweh and Washington’s $96 million defensive investment

Although Diggs received more support in the survey, Oweh represents the Commanders’ largest financial commitment of the offseason. He signed a four-year, $96 million contract, the most lucrative deal Washington has given an external free agent since Albert Haynesworth received a seven-year, $100m contract in 2009.

According to Over the Cap, Oweh’s $24 million average annual value ranks 17th among edge rushers. It is also well below the league’s top six contracts at the position, which are worth between $40m and $50m per year.

Evaluating Oweh’s impact solely through individual statistics such as sacks could overlook the broader strategic purpose of the signing. Under new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones, Washington is moving toward an aggressive, pressure-heavy scheme designed to dictate matchups and use multiple fronts to create confusion for opposing offensive lines.

Oweh is not expected to carry an otherwise empty pass rush. Instead, he is positioned to become the “lead dog” within a deep and talented rotation. Pairing his athletic ability with a wave of fresh situational rushers could allow Jones to maintain consistent pressure throughout all four quarters.

Oweh’s value will depend partly on how his edge pressure creates opportunities for interior pass rushers, stresses opposing quarterbacks and frees his teammates to make plays. His contract reflects the importance of a foundational edge setter—not an elite one-man wrecking crew—who can activate the tactical elements of Jones’ new defense.

Why the Commanders could defy national expectations in 2026

The survey results also reveal optimism among Washington fans that contrasts sharply with national projections. Major sportsbooks and national media previews have largely discounted the Commanders, with win totals and power rankings influenced by the team’s disappointing 2025 record and offering limited consideration to the coaching changes and major roster overhaul completed this offseason.

There are at least three reasons to believe those projections could underestimate Washington’s trajectory in 2026.

    A complete schematic overhaul

The arrival of two new coordinators has reset the team’s strategic identity. Washington’s predictable and easily countered schemes from 2025, particularly on defense, have been replaced by more modern and adaptable systems on both sides of the ball.

National projection models can struggle to quantify the potential improvement that follows when a roster is supported by new coaching ideas and approaches.

    A transformed defensive roster

Using Washington’s 2025 defensive metrics as the primary basis for projecting its 2026 performance may be misleading. The defensive coordinator and scheme are new, and more than half of the defensive starters will also be new to the organization this season.

Washington has replaced low-ceiling depth with proven or high-potential veterans and draft picks who fit the new system. That personnel transformation could make last season’s defensive results a poor guide to the unit’s upcoming performance.

    Potential regression in injury impact

Washington was among the NFL teams most severely affected by adjusted games lost to injury in 2025. NFL history shows that extreme injury outcomes, whether positive or negative, rarely continue from one season to the next.

A return to league-average health would give the Commanders a natural boost in continuity and performance.

The Reacts survey indicates that Washington’s fan base recognizes the strategic logic behind the team’s offseason additions. Diggs provides stability and redundancy on the perimeter, while Oweh gives Daronte Jones the elite chess piece needed to execute his defensive vision.

National analysts remain focused on Washington’s 2025 results, but the changes in coaching, health and personnel point to a new team built around franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels. Those developments could position the Commanders to surprise skeptical NFL media, analysts and fans in 2026.

  • Chris Gotterup Says There Would Have Been ‘a lot of complaining’ If the PGA Tour Had Not Made One Change at East Lake

Chris Gotterup Says There Would Have Been ‘a lot of complaining’ If the PGA Tour Had Not Made One Change at East Lake

Chris Gotterup is within one stroke of the lead heading into the weekend at the Tour Championship after following his opening-round 64 with a 67 on Friday.

The 27-year-old is tied just one shot behind leaders Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard with 36 holes remaining at East Lake. A victory would give Gotterup a serious chance of winning the PGA Tour Player of the Year award.

Gotterup narrowly missed out on the United States Ryder Cup team last year after producing some exceptional golf, but his performances have arguably improved further this season.

Chris Gotterup discusses East Lake’s toughest hole

Gotterup spoke to the media after his second round on Friday and was asked about the increasingly difficult conditions at East Lake.

“It definitely got a little harder when the wind switched and picked up a little bit,” Gotterup admitted.

“Like a hole like 15 was really hard to get a club that, one, landed pin high, and two, was on the green.

“We were hitting from 155. We were laughing and saying, if we played the back box today, there would be a lot of complaining going on.”

The 15th hole can be stretched beyond 200 yards. Had it played to its full distance on Friday, the par-three would have been almost impossible to negotiate.

    East Lake’s challenging 15th hole

Even from 155 yards, the 15th was the most difficult hole at East Lake during the second round. Players averaged 0.138 strokes over par on the hole.

Only three birdies were recorded throughout the day, the same number as double bogeys or worse.

Strong winds caused problems for players hitting their tee shots into the 15th. The pin was positioned close to the edge of the green, while water threatened shots that finished short or left.

Players were aiming 30 to 40 feet to the right of the pin despite having only a wedge in their hands, highlighting just how difficult the hole was playing.

The par-three 15th is likely to play a significant role in determining the outcome of this year’s Tour Championship over the weekend.

  • David Bednar Is Making Yankees Fans Forget How Shaky the Ninth Inning Used to Feel

David Bednar Is Making Yankees Fans Forget How Shaky the Ninth Inning Used to Feel

The Yankees had a one-run lead to protect Thursday night, and David Bednar made sure it was enough. He needed just 12 pitches to finish New York’s 1-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox and record his 31st save.

There was a time when the ninth inning at Yankee Stadium felt like a long walk toward a disappointing ending. Bednar has changed that feeling. When he jogs in from the bullpen, the crowd expects him to take control and close out the game.

David Bednar has stabilized the Yankees’ ninth inning

Bednar’s numbers support that growing confidence. He owns a 2.31 ERA across 58.1 innings, with 65 strikeouts, 18 walks and a 0.98 WHIP. He has converted 31 of 34 save opportunities, providing the dependable late-inning work a contender needs.

Thursday’s appearance was as efficient as it gets: three batters, no runs and game over. Those outings may not always produce the loudest reaction, but they allow the rest of the Yankees to play with greater confidence in close games.

Aug. 28, 2026: Yankees catcher Austin Wells reacts with pitcher David Bednar after the win over the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. Credit: Tom Horak-Imagn Images via Reuters Connect.

Bednar is not trying to make the closer’s job look difficult. He attacks the strike zone, works quickly and gives catcher Austin Wells the opportunity to finish the inning with the best pitch available.

That reliability matters, particularly during the late-season push. The Yankees already face significant pressure in every close game. They do not need their closer creating another problem when a lead is on the line.

The Yankees have a closer they can trust

The postseason will present more demanding situations than a one-run August game against Boston. Bednar will allow runs again because every closer does. What he has earned, however, is the benefit of the doubt when the game reaches the ninth inning.

For now, the Yankees have a reliever who can turn a narrow lead into a handshake line. That is the job, and Bednar is doing it well.

  • Harlan Coben’s 6-Part Thriller With an 83% Rotten Tomatoes Score Is a Perfect One-Night Binge

Harlan Coben’s 6-Part Thriller With an 83% Rotten Tomatoes Score Is a Perfect One-Night Binge

Harlan Coben has built his reputation on twist-filled thrillers about ordinary people suddenly caught in life-or-death situations. Several of his novels have become Netflix adaptations, demonstrating their potential as gripping live-action mysteries.

For viewers who enjoyed Stay Close, I Will Find You, Shelter or Fool Me Once, Just One Look is another Netflix thriller worth watching. The six-part Polish limited series remains an underappreciated entry in Coben’s catalog, despite offering a tightly paced mystery designed for a one-night binge. It holds an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

A marriage at the center of a conspiracy

Greta discovers an old photograph of her husband and shows it to him, although he denies knowing anything about it. When he leaves the house and fails to return, Greta realizes that something has gone seriously wrong.

As secrets begin piling up and the truth starts to emerge, Greta joins forces with her best friend to investigate what appears to be a far-reaching conspiracy. At the center of the mystery is the man she married.

The series moves quickly, delivering a steady stream of revelations and suspenseful turns that make it particularly well suited to binge-watching. However, what distinguishes Just One Look from many of Coben’s other Netflix adaptations is its emotional focus.

At its core, the series explores what happens when trust collapses inside a marriage. Its central mystery reinforces the unsettling idea that it may be impossible to truly know another person. The show combines thriller suspense with painful marital revelations, creating an intimate story as well as an engaging mystery.

    A distinctive Polish setting

The setting also gives Just One Look a stronger identity. Like several of Coben’s other international adaptations, the series unfolds in a specific national and cultural environment. Poland is more than a backdrop here, with its architecture and suburban isolation helping shape the atmosphere of the story.

The Polish setting consistently contributes to the mystery rather than feeling like a random location. It gives the series a distinct visual and emotional character as Greta searches for answers about her husband.

    A fast-paced Netflix mystery

As the investigation deepens, the story accelerates. Episodes end with major reveals or abrupt cliffhangers, encouraging viewers to continue immediately. That structure makes the series an effective one-night Netflix binge, keeping the audience engaged from the opening episode through the finale.

When the truth is finally exposed, Just One Look proves to be about more than discovering what happened to Greta’s husband. The series also follows Greta as she confronts a devastating reality she wishes were not true. That emotional impact gives the thriller more weight than a mystery focused solely on solving a crime.

Fans of Harlan Coben’s other adaptations should find Just One Look a compelling choice. Its tightly constructed mystery is intense yet personal, making this overlooked Netflix limited series a strong option for viewers seeking a suspenseful weekend binge.
