Bitcoin Holds Above $78,000 as HYPE Leads While Major Cryptocurrencies Slip on Hawkish Fed Bets

Oil is increasingly driving the rates market, with the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield rising to 4.78%. Traders now see roughly 64% odds of an interest-rate hike at the Federal Reserve’s September 16 meeting, up from about 36% before Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole address. Gold fell to approximately $4,435 an ounce after gaining 10% in August.

Bitcoin has held near $78,000 following a 23% rally, a sign that may be more significant than the rally itself. “Holding around $78,000 after a 23% surge is more telling than the surge itself,” said Yusuf Fakhro, partner at ARP Digital, in an email. He added that perpetual open interest is at its lowest level since May, while U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded their strongest week of demand since October 2025. Together, those trends suggest the August advance was driven by spot demand rather than crowded leveraged positions that could trigger further selling.

Bitcoin ETF flows have since weakened. Trading firm Wintermute recorded $924 million in bitcoin ETF inflows during nine consecutive positive sessions before a $202 million outflow ended the run on Friday. Bitcoin has been rejected at the $82,000 level each time since.

“Market’s on edge but lacks directional conviction in the short term,” said Jasper De Maere, OTC trader at Wintermute, in an email.

U.S. jobs data could set bitcoin’s next move

Friday’s August payrolls report will be the final major labor-market indicator released before the September Federal Open Market Committee meeting. With interest-rate hike expectations already close to two-thirds, a stronger-than-expected jobs report could push Treasury yields higher and send bitcoin back toward the overnight low of $77,200.

  • Solana-Based Market Maker Aquifer Hit by $2.5 Million Hack After Wallet Compromise

Solana-Based Market Maker Aquifer Hit by $2.5 Million Hack After Wallet Compromise

Aquifer, a Solana-based automated market maker (AMM), was targeted in a hack that drained approximately $2.5 million from the protocol, according to a report by BlockBeats. The incident came to light on [date] after a compromised wallet address enabled the attacker to move funds across multiple blockchain networks, including Ethereum and Solana.

What Happened in the Aquifer Hack?

BlockBeats reported that the attacker used addresses on several blockchain networks, indicating a coordinated effort to move or obscure the stolen assets. The breach may have involved a compromised private key or the misuse of administrative privileges, but neither possibility has been confirmed.

Security analysts have noted that moving funds across multiple chains is a common tactic used to make cryptocurrency tracing and recovery more difficult. The exact method used to compromise the wallet remains under investigation.

Aquifer has not yet issued a public statement. It is also unclear whether the team has identified the root cause of the incident or implemented measures to prevent further losses. The uncertainty reflects the continuing security challenges faced by decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.

    Implications for DeFi Security

The Aquifer exploit highlights the persistent risks facing DeFi platforms, even as smart contract auditing and security practices continue to improve. Wallet-level compromises remain a serious threat, particularly when administrative keys or privileged accounts are involved.

The incident also demonstrates how protocols with sophisticated technical infrastructure can still be undermined by human error, weak access controls, or inadequate private-key management.

Can the Stolen Funds Be Recovered?

There is currently no confirmation that the approximately $2.5 million in stolen funds can be recovered. The involvement of multiple blockchains complicates the tracing process, while the opportunity to freeze or recover assets can narrow quickly after an attack.

Aquifer’s response in the coming days could affect user confidence and the protocol’s long-term viability. Community members should monitor Aquifer’s official channels for updates and exercise caution when interacting with the platform.

What the Aquifer Hack Means for Crypto Users

The Aquifer hack is another reminder of the security risks associated with decentralized markets. The full details of the breach are still emerging, but the incident emphasizes the importance of strong key-management procedures and clear incident-response plans.

For users, the event reinforces the need to diversify exposure and remain vigilant when using DeFi protocols, particularly during an active security investigation.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is Aquifer?

Aquifer is a Solana-based automated market maker (AMM) that facilitates decentralized token trading. It is part of the broader DeFi ecosystem, which provides financial services without traditional intermediaries.

How did the Aquifer hack happen?

According to BlockBeats, the hack occurred after a wallet address was compromised. The attacker then moved funds across multiple blockchains, including Ethereum and Solana. The precise cause, including whether it involved a private-key leak or the abuse of administrative privileges, has not been confirmed.

Can the stolen Aquifer funds be recovered?

Recovery remains uncertain. Moving assets across multiple blockchains makes tracing more difficult, and there has been no confirmation that any funds have been frozen or returned. Cantor Fitzgerald Raises Coinbase Price Target to $212 as Crypto Market Recovers

Cantor Fitzgerald has raised its price target for Coinbase Global Inc. to $212 from $184 while maintaining an overweight rating on the cryptocurrency exchange. The Wall Street investment bank said the increase reflects a broader recovery in digital assets, with Bitcoin recently reaching $80,000, according to a research note.

Why Cantor Fitzgerald Raised Coinbase’s Price Target

The revised Coinbase price target points to stronger institutional confidence in the company as a regulated gateway to the cryptocurrency market. Coinbase operates in compliance with U.S. regulations and has become a key investment vehicle for institutional investors seeking exposure to digital assets.

Cantor Fitzgerald analysts indicated that continued Bitcoin strength could encourage greater investor risk appetite and provide further support for Coinbase’s valuation.

Coinbase shares have historically been sensitive to cryptocurrency price movements because the company’s trading volumes and transaction revenue are closely linked to market activity. The exchange has expanded into additional revenue streams, including subscription services and stablecoin partnerships, although trading remains its core business.

Crypto Market Recovery Supports Coinbase Outlook

The cryptocurrency market has rebounded in recent weeks, with Bitcoin moving above $80,000 for the first time in months. The rally has been supported by improved regulatory clarity in the United States, increased institutional adoption and a favorable macroeconomic environment.

Cantor Fitzgerald’s overweight rating reflects a broader trend among analysts who view Coinbase as a bellwether for the cryptocurrency industry. Some analysts remain cautious, however, citing possible regulatory headwinds and continued market volatility.

The $212 price target represents modest upside from current levels and reflects a balanced assessment of Coinbase’s growth prospects and risks.

What the Coinbase Price Target Means for Investors

The updated price target gives investors another reference point when evaluating Coinbase stock. It also highlights the importance of monitoring Bitcoin’s performance, as the exchange’s trading activity and valuation are closely correlated with cryptocurrency market sentiment.

Coinbase’s regulatory compliance may strengthen its position among institutional investors, but it also leaves the company exposed to regulatory changes that could affect its operations.

Cantor Fitzgerald’s commentary suggests that Coinbase is positioned to benefit from a sustained cryptocurrency recovery. Investors should nevertheless remain aware of the significant volatility associated with digital assets. Diversification and risk management remain important for anyone considering exposure to the crypto sector.

    Bottom Line

Cantor Fitzgerald’s decision to raise its Coinbase price target to $212 from $184 reflects increased optimism about the cryptocurrency market’s recovery and Bitcoin’s rally to $80,000. The continued overweight rating signals confidence in Coinbase’s role as a regulated crypto exchange, while also leaving investors to weigh potential gains against market volatility and regulatory uncertainty.

The coming months will help determine whether the current cryptocurrency market momentum can continue.

  • Singapore’s MAS Opens Public Consultation on Stablecoin Regulatory Amendments

Singapore’s MAS Opens Public Consultation on Stablecoin Regulatory Amendments

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has launched a public consultation on proposed amendments to the Payment Services Act (PSA) that would create a dedicated regulatory framework for stablecoins in Singapore. Reported by ChainCatcher, the proposal marks a significant step in the city-state’s efforts to align its digital asset rules with evolving global standards.

    Singapore Proposes Dedicated Stablecoin Rules

Singapore’s Payment Services Act, enacted in 2019, currently regulates payment services, including digital payment token (DPT) services. However, the rapid growth of stablecoins—cryptocurrencies designed to maintain a stable value by being pegged to a reserve asset—has exposed gaps in the existing regulatory framework.

The proposed amendments would address those gaps by establishing clearer requirements for stablecoin issuers and service providers operating in Singapore. The MAS is also seeking feedback on additional measures reflecting developments in the stablecoin sector since 2023.

Potential requirements may cover reserve management, redemption rights, and disclosure obligations. The consultation comes as regulators worldwide assess how stablecoins can be integrated into existing financial systems without undermining monetary stability or consumer protection.

Potential Impact on Stablecoin Issuers and Investors

If implemented, the proposed framework would likely require stablecoin issuers in Singapore to obtain a license under the PSA and meet stringent capital and governance requirements. These rules could strengthen the credibility of stablecoins as payment instruments, although they may also increase compliance costs for businesses.

For investors and users, clearer regulation could provide greater confidence in the stability and reliability of stablecoins, potentially supporting wider adoption. The consultation also reflects Singapore’s intention to remain a leading global fintech hub while maintaining a balanced approach to innovation and risk.

The MAS has consistently emphasized responsible innovation, and the proposed stablecoin framework is consistent with that approach.

    Why Stablecoin Regulation Matters

Stablecoins have become a central part of the digital asset ecosystem, supporting cryptocurrency trading, payments, and decentralized finance (DeFi). At the same time, the collapse of certain algorithmic stablecoins in recent years has highlighted the risks of inadequate oversight.

Singapore’s proposed approach could influence how other jurisdictions develop stablecoin regulations and may contribute to broader global regulatory standards. For market participants, the outcome of the consultation will help shape the future operating environment for stablecoin-related activities in one of Asia’s leading financial centers.

What the MAS Consultation Could Mean for Singapore’s Crypto Sector

The MAS public consultation represents a proactive move toward a more comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets in Singapore. By seeking feedback from stakeholders, the central bank aims to develop rules that are effective while remaining adaptable to changes in the stablecoin industry.

The resulting framework is expected to support safer and more efficient stablecoin use while reinforcing Singapore’s position as a forward-looking financial regulator.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is Singapore’s Payment Services Act?

The Payment Services Act, enacted in 2019, regulates payment services and digital payment token (DPT) services in Singapore. It provides a flexible regulatory framework for payment systems and service providers.

How could the proposed amendments affect stablecoin issuers?

If enacted, the amendments would likely require stablecoin issuers to obtain a license from the MAS, comply with reserve and governance requirements, and meet disclosure standards. This would place stablecoin operations under direct regulatory oversight.

Why is the MAS consulting the public?

Public consultation enables industry participants, legal experts, and members of the public to provide feedback on the proposed rules. The process is intended to help create a balanced and practical regulatory framework aligned with international best practices and supportive of a robust digital asset ecosystem.

  • Crypto Has Survived Its Harshest Winter as Fundamentals Remain Solid

Crypto Has Survived Its Harshest Winter as Fundamentals Remain Solid

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, widely known as CZ, delivered an upbeat assessment of the cryptocurrency industry at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 event in Hong Kong, saying the sector has moved beyond its most difficult period. He told attendees that crypto’s fundamentals remain strong as the market continues to develop amid changing regulatory conditions worldwide.

RWA Tokenization Emerges as a Major Crypto Opportunity

Zhao identified real-world asset (RWA) tokenization as one of the cryptocurrency industry’s most promising areas. He said bringing assets on-chain could remove traditional time and cross-border barriers, making it easier for investors around the world to connect with them.

On-chain assets could also improve liquidity for small and mid-sized investments that often struggle to attract capital through traditional financial channels. Zhao’s comments reflect the broader push to connect traditional finance with blockchain technology, an area that has attracted growing institutional interest in recent years.

    Crypto Regulation Remains Uneven Worldwide

Zhao offered a mixed assessment of the global regulatory landscape. He described the United Arab Emirates as the most advanced jurisdiction for crypto regulation and said the United States is making rapid progress on rules governing stablecoins and cryptocurrency exchanges.

He characterized Japan as friendly toward the industry and said Hong Kong is developing quickly as a crypto hub. Singapore, by contrast, was described as relatively conservative. Governments worldwide continue to weigh the potential benefits of blockchain innovation against the need for investor protection.

    Decentralized Exchanges Have Matured

Zhao also discussed the development of decentralized exchanges, or DEXs. He said the sector has matured substantially over the past eight years, both technologically and in terms of user awareness.

According to Zhao, the cryptocurrency industry could make an even greater leap forward if regulators around the world adopt more accommodating policies. His assessment reflects confidence in the resilience of the crypto ecosystem despite previous market downturns and continuing legal challenges involving major industry participants.

What CZ’s Bitcoin Asia 2026 Comments Mean for Crypto

Ripple Unlocks 1 Billion XRP Tokens: How Much Remains?

Ripple Unlocks 1 Billion XRP in September Escrow Release

Ripple has unlocked 1 billion $XRP as part of its regular monthly escrow release, according to blockchain transaction tracker Whale Alert.

The release occurred through three transactions involving 500 million, 400 million and 100 million $XRP from Ripple-controlled escrow accounts.

Ripple’s XRP escrow balance declines to about 31.28 billion

The September release follows Ripple’s established escrow mechanism, under which up to 1 billion $XRP can become available at the beginning of each month.

Ripple originally placed 55 billion $XRP into escrow in 2017 and said that any unused $XRP would be returned to escrow for future releases.

As of Aug. 31, approximately 32.28 billion $XRP remained locked in Ripple’s on-ledger escrow, according to an on-chain tracker that calculates the balance directly from active XRPL escrow objects.

Following the September 1 unlock, Ripple’s existing escrow balance is estimated at about 31.28 billion $XRP. That represents roughly 31.28% of $XRP’s fixed maximum supply of 100 billion tokens.

However, an escrow unlock does not mean Ripple has sold 1 billion $XRP. Ripple has historically returned part of each monthly release to escrow, meaning the amount that actually enters the broader market can be substantially lower than the headline 1 billion $XRP figure.

$XRP price gains momentum as liquidations exceed $2.3 million

$XRP is showing signs of renewed bullish momentum. The cryptocurrency is trading at around $1.39, up roughly 1.7% over the past 24 hours.

$XRP has gained approximately 30.8% over the past 30 days and 14.5% over the last 90 days. Despite those gains, the token remains under pressure on a year-to-date basis.

More than $2.3 million worth of $XRP positions have been liquidated over the past 24 hours. Short liquidations account for roughly $1.5 million, compared with about $793,000 in long liquidations.

  • Flamingo Finance Exploited via Staking Contract Vulnerability as Trillions of FLM Tokens Are Minted

Flamingo Finance Exploited via Staking Contract Vulnerability as Trillions of FLM Tokens Are Minted

Flamingo Finance, the leading decentralized finance (DeFi) platform on Neo N3, has been exploited through a vulnerability in its staking contract’s reward calculation system.

The attacker minted approximately 2.19 trillion FLM tokens—more than 3,500 times the pre-exploit circulating supply of roughly 570 million FLM—and used the newly created tokens to drain liquidity from Flamingo’s trading pools. The incident remains under investigation.

How the Flamingo Finance exploit worked

According to Flamingo team members in the project’s Discord server, the vulnerability involved the interaction between Flamingo’s lending and staking contracts. Atlazor, Flamingo’s lead developer, said the lending contract incorrectly calculates the amount of LP tokens released through the staking contract, causing the reward calculation to generate inflated results.

Mr.Google, Flamingo’s team lead, described a compounding issue in the staking contract that could be triggered by withdrawing extremely small amounts. The attacker used the flaw to claim vastly inflated FLM rewards, minting more than 2.19 trillion tokens.

    Atlazor summarized the mechanism:

“Someone found that weakness and exploited it to mint a HUGE amount of FLM by claiming FLM rewards with an incorrect reward calculation.”

The transaction can be viewed on Dora.

    Exploit drains Flamingo liquidity pools

The attacker immediately sold the minted FLM across all available FLM liquidity pools on Flamingo, including the FLM/WBTC, FLM/FUSD, and FLM/bNEO pairs.

According to Mr.Google, the exploit caused an extreme market imbalance and pushed the FLM price down to the lowest level permitted by the current orderbook settings.

The attacker then used the acquired WBTC, FUSD, and bNEO to liquidate additional liquidity across the platform. According to atlazor, the FUSD pool was not completely emptied. Approximately 11,000 bNEO also remained in the pools because the OrderBook contract could not technically imbalance them any further.

Flamingo team responds to the attack

Mr.Google said he left his best friend’s wedding early after learning about the exploit. In a message to the Flamingo Discord community, he acknowledged the seriousness of the incident:

“Right now it feels like the damage may be irreversible.”

At the time of writing, Flamingo Finance had not published an official public statement on its social media channels or website. The Discord messages from Mr.Google and atlazor represent the team’s initial response as the investigation continues.

    Neo Council freezes attacker’s address

The Neo Council has since voted to freeze the attacker’s address on the Neo N3 network, preventing the exploiter from moving the remaining assets held there.

Neo News Today will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

Franklin’s fund, 21Shares and Grayscale recorded no new inflows on Monday. Nevertheless, the latest figures indicate that demand has remained strong following $XRP’s sharp rally and subsequent pullback.

Monthly $XRP ETF Inflows Show Major Reversal

The improvement is also evident in monthly figures. $XRP ETFs recorded $159 million in inflows in August, compared with just $27.29 million during the previous month.

This represents a 462.7% increase. The acceleration coincided with $XRP’s explosive price move during the second half of August.

$XRP climbed from $0.9888 to $1.70, gaining 72% in just four days. The token has since corrected by 20% and was trading at around $1.37 at press time.

  • Bitmine-Linked Wallet Withdraws 20,000 ETH Worth $49.4 Million From FalconX

Bitmine-Linked Wallet Withdraws 20,000 ETH Worth $49.4 Million From FalconX

An Ethereum wallet believed to be associated with Bitmine has withdrawn 20,000 $ETH, worth approximately $49.42 million, from cryptocurrency exchange FalconX. Blockchain tracking platform Onchain Lens flagged the transaction and identified the wallet as likely belonging to Bitmine, a major cryptocurrency mining operation.

Ethereum Exchange Outflow May Signal Accumulation

Large cryptocurrency withdrawals from exchanges are often viewed by market analysts as signs of accumulation. Investors may move assets into private wallets for long-term holding instead of keeping them available for immediate trading.

The transaction suggests that Bitmine may be expanding its Ethereum reserves, potentially in anticipation of future price gains or for staking purposes. However, the exact reason for the withdrawal has not been disclosed.

The move comes as Ethereum trades within a relatively defined range. Transactions of this size remain closely watched by traders and on-chain analysts because they can offer insight into institutional sentiment.

What the Bitmine Ethereum Withdrawal Could Mean for the Market

Bitmine is known for its large-scale mining operations and has historically held significant amounts of mined cryptocurrency. The withdrawal is consistent with a broader trend among miners and large holders to reduce their exchange balances.

Lower exchange balances can reduce potential sell-side pressure. On-chain data also indicates that Ethereum reserves held on exchanges have declined over the past year, a trend some analysts consider bullish. If demand increases while fewer coins are available on exchanges, price volatility could rise.

Why Large $ETH Transfers Matter to Investors

For retail investors, major whale transactions can provide a possible indication of market direction. However, a single transaction—even one worth tens of millions of dollars—does not necessarily predict future Ethereum price movements.

Market conditions, regulatory developments and broader economic factors also influence cryptocurrency prices. The Bitmine-associated withdrawal is therefore best viewed as one data point rather than a definitive trading signal.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is an exchange outflow?

An exchange outflow is the movement of cryptocurrency from an exchange’s wallets to external wallets. It is often interpreted as a sign that investors intend to hold the assets for the long term rather than trade them immediately.

Why do large $ETH withdrawals matter?

Large withdrawals can reduce the amount of Ethereum available on exchanges, potentially lowering sell pressure. They may also be viewed as a confidence signal from major holders, which can affect market sentiment.

    Who is Bitmine?

Bitmine is a cryptocurrency mining company that operates large-scale mining facilities. The company is known to hold significant amounts of mined digital assets, including Bitcoin and Ethereum.
