  • Lewis Hamilton “Didn’t Help Himself” With Ferrari Radio Messages, Says Guenther Steiner

Lewis Hamilton “Didn’t Help Himself” With Ferrari Radio Messages, Says Guenther Steiner

Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner believes Lewis Hamilton made Ferrari’s Dutch Grand Prix tensions worse with his frustrated team radio messages.

The seven-time world champion repeatedly questioned Ferrari’s strategy during the race at Zandvoort, urging the Maranello team to let him pass team-mate Charles Leclerc, who was running a different strategy. When Ferrari eventually brought Leclerc into the pits, Hamilton complained that the team had lost too much time.

Hamilton later sarcastically asked whether Ferrari was using him as a “guinea pig” after leaving him on old hard tyres.

Steiner compares Ferrari and Mercedes strategy planning

Speaking on The Red Flags Podcast, Steiner compared Ferrari’s handling of team orders with Mercedes’ preparation and said Ferrari had not organised the situation as effectively.

“Obviously, it was not as well organised as the silver people. They were well organised,” Steiner said during an appearance on The Red Flags Podcast, comparing Mercedes and Ferrari.

“They had the discussion before and obviously that discussion was not as heated as that one after for Ferrari because when you go into the drivers before the race and tell them what is what.”

Steiner said Ferrari’s pre-race discussions should have been more detailed.

“I think that one was not done in the detail Mercedes stated, and that caused what happened.”

Hamilton criticised for Ferrari team radio messages

Although Steiner argued that Ferrari could have prepared its drivers more thoroughly for possible team-order scenarios, he also said Hamilton’s criticism of the team was counterproductive.

“I don’t think Lewis helped himself being so critical because when you’re sitting on the pitwall  and you hear that, it’s like, ‘Oh this guy’s actually trying to vouch too much for himself. He doesn’t see the team anymore here.’

“You could say, ‘Hey, would it not be better if he lets me pass, I’m faster,’ instead of saying, ‘Oh you made me lose time here.’”

Hamilton later addressed his Dutch Grand Prix team radio comments on social media, accepting responsibility for his frustrated reaction.

“I’ve listened back to some of my radio and TV comments. In the heat of the moment, frustration can come out, especially when you care as deeply as I do,” he posted on Instagram.

“But that wasn’t the best version of me. I take responsibility for that, and I’ll be better. That passion comes from believing in this team, the people in it, and what we’re building together. The direction is clear. The belief is there. And the fight is absolutely still on.”

Bradley Cooper Transforms Monaco for 1962 Grand Prix in “Ocean’s Eleven” Prequel Shoot

Bradley Cooper and a major film crew spent five days filming in Monaco for Warner Bros.’ upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, with production taking place from 24 to 28 August.

1962 Monaco Grand Prix recreated for Ocean’s Eleven prequel

Parts of Monaco were transformed to recreate the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix, including the famous street circuit and replica vintage Formula 1 cars. Filming took place at several of the principality’s most recognisable locations, including Port Hercule, Avenue Princesse Grace, Place du Casino, Portier and Larvotto.

The untitled film is being shot under the working title Sandcastles. Cooper, a three-time Grammy Award winner known for A Star Is Born, Silver Linings Playbook and The Hangover, is directing, writing and starring in the project.

Cooper and Margot Robbie play the parents of Danny Ocean, the character famously portrayed by George Clooney in the Ocean’s franchise. The cast also includes Wagner Moura, Monica Barbaro, Josh Gad, Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Lauren Ridloff, Jack Holden and Omar Sy.

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents,” Robbie teased during a Warner Bros. preview reel at CinemaCon.

“You’ll see them in their prime, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”

Film revisits historic Monaco Grand Prix

The 1962 Monaco Grand Prix was won by Cooper driver Bruce McLaren. Lotus driver Jim Clark started from pole position but retired on lap 55 because of a clutch problem. Ferrari drivers Phil Hill and Lorenzo Bandini completed the podium.

Additional filming locations have included Paris and Nice. The film is scheduled to be released on 25 June 2027.

  • Lando Norris Gives His Verdict on McLaren’s 2026 F1 Title Fight

Lando Norris Gives His Verdict on McLaren’s 2026 F1 Title Fight

Lando Norris remains confident that McLaren can make the necessary improvements to its current Formula 1 car and challenge for the 2026 world championship.

Speaking to Sky Sports after announcing a contract extension with McLaren through the end of 2030, the British driver assessed the team’s prospects in the current championship campaign.

McLaren endured a difficult start to the season but has made a significant performance gain following the introduction of upgrades. Norris has since claimed consecutive victories at the Hungarian and Dutch Grands Prix, moving himself into title contention.

“Well, we’re trying to change that. That’s one thing I’m certain of,” Norris explained when asked if the car is in a position to fight for the championship.

“The team is working better than they’ve ever worked before. I think they’re working in a more efficient, harder way, even than the last couple of years. And that level was world championship-winning level. So, it’s not that I don’t think we can win it.

“I’m confident we have a lot of what we need in place. It’s just certain areas on the car that we need to improve. And I believe we can. It’s just a race against time, as always, within Formula 1. But we proved over the last few weekends that we can still win races, and we have very good momentum.

“I always want that little bit more, and I want to be confident that we can improve the car enough to easily say, ‘Yeah, we can fight for this world championship.’

“So, we can easily fight as a team. We just need to improve some things with the car, and I’m still confident we can do that.”

McLaren currently sits third in the constructors’ championship with 263 points, 162 points behind leaders Mercedes. Norris is fourth in the drivers’ standings with 159 points, 83 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli.

  • Sir Jackie Stewart Explains How Improved F1 Safety Has Changed Racing

Sir Jackie Stewart Explains How Improved F1 Safety Has Changed Racing

Three-time Formula 1 world champion Sir Jackie Stewart says modern Grand Prix drivers can race more aggressively because the sport’s safety standards have improved dramatically.

In an interview with his grandson, Lucas Stewart, the 87-year-old former driver reflected on his campaign to improve motorsport safety during the 1960s and 1970s. He said today’s drivers can make mistakes without facing the same fatal consequences that were common during his career.

“They are more preventive in safety, but at the same time, taking advantage of that has brought it to a level that it never existed in before, and they do make mistakes, but the mistakes don’t take lives as they did in the past,” Stewart said when asked how modern driving styles have changed as safety has improved.

“So it’s all gone better. It’s no more colourful, glamorous, or exciting. Formula 1 has always been like that. And it’s global. So, it’s now in a very good condition. There’s very little chance of death compared with previously. So, that’s a good thing.”

Crashes during Stewart’s driving career were frequently fatal. Pointing to memorial benches at his home, he described the dangers faced by drivers at the time.

“It was ridiculously dangerous. Most of my friends are dead. Almost every bench in this area in our home here is dedicated to a racing driver who’s lost their life.

“So, I had to do something about that to make it safer. Today, we have better safety in motorsport than we’ve ever had in the history of the sport.

“They’re all pals. You know, we didn’t even stop the race. We continued to drive while somebody was losing their life. It’s an amazing reality. And you knew who it was. Sometimes it was the terrible sight of only knowing because of his helmet that had been taken off in the accident. That type of thing doesn’t happen today.”

Stewart said Formula 1 has since developed more comprehensive safety and race-management systems, making driver fatalities far less likely.

“Today it’s managed more completely and we don’t lose drivers to the same extent. It’s not impossible for death to occur, but it’s certainly unlikely in comparison to years gone by.”

Asked how he would like to be remembered, Stewart highlighted his role in making motor racing safer.

“Making motor racing safer was one of the things that was able to be part of my life. The number of friends that died, in many cases totally unnecessarily, was taken down to a new level, and that’s been carried forth by many others,” the former driver said.

“But maybe I was the first because it wasn’t necessarily taken well when we were making race tracks change for us to continue to drive. All that had to take place because there was so much death taking place, and it was ridiculous to continue. And I was just part of that period.”

  • Guenther Steiner Says Mercedes Has Clarified George Russell’s Support Role

Guenther Steiner Says Mercedes Has Clarified George Russell’s Support Role

Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner believes Mercedes has told George Russell to support Kimi Antonelli’s 2026 championship campaign.

Russell arrived at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix as the clear favourite for the 2026 drivers’ title. However, his Mercedes team-mate became the youngest driver to lead the standings after consecutive victories at the Chinese and Japanese Grands Prix.

During the first half of the season, Russell won two Grands Prix while Antonelli claimed six victories. The Italian currently leads the championship with 242 points, while Russell sits second on 183 points, level with Lewis Hamilton.

Mercedes team orders raise questions over Russell and Antonelli

Russell was asked to let Antonelli past during the Dutch Grand Prix, reigniting questions about Mercedes’ internal dynamics. Team principal Toto Wolff said the instruction was not related to the championship.

Russell briefly questioned the order over team radio before allowing his team-mate through. He finished third behind race winner Lando Norris and Antonelli, later telling the media that the decision was correct because Antonelli would probably have overtaken him anyway on fresher tyres.

Speaking on The Red Flags Podcast, Steiner suggested that Mercedes must have held a clear discussion during the summer break to define its new rules of engagement. The team and its drivers have not confirmed that such a conversation took place.

“I wouldn’t say they told him, ‘You’re the number two driver.’ They told him, ‘You are now here to support Kimi.’ I wouldn’t call him the number two driver, but, ‘If needed, you need to support Kimi to win the world championship. This is your mission for this season.’ No, I think that happened,” Steiner explained.

Steiner argued that supporting Antonelli would be necessary if Mercedes wants to secure the drivers’ championship, warning that failing to establish clear priorities could leave the team vulnerable late in the season.

“If you want to win, this is what you have to do. Otherwise, you take the risk as McLaren did last year, then get down to the last race to lose that world championship, not to win it, to lose it.”

  • Audi F1 Power Unit Facility Branded “second to none” by Rob Smedley

Audi F1 Power Unit Facility Branded “second to none” by Rob Smedley

Former Ferrari race engineer Rob Smedley has praised Audi’s Formula 1 power unit headquarters, describing the German manufacturer’s engine department as “second to none”.

Speaking on the High Performance Racing podcast with host Jake Humphrey and former Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer, Smedley assessed the progress made across the F1 grid during the first half of the season.

Audi has faced a steep learning curve since taking over the Sauber operation and entering Formula 1 as a works team. However, Smedley highlighted the scale and quality of the manufacturer’s investment in its powertrain programme.

“Sauber, I mean, they were pretty desperate these last two or three years. They were just awful, there’s no other word for it,”

    the former engineer said.

Szafnauer argued that Audi already owned the team at that stage, meaning it had strong financial backing and decent infrastructure. Smedley responded by pointing to the company’s facilities in Germany.

“They’ve always had a very good wind tunnel, or have for a long time. But now, if you look at their facility in Germany, the engine facility, the power unit facility, that is second to none, and they’re still building and still going on it.

“So, this is a huge project for them. Hinwil as a Formula 1 facility leaves maybe a little bit to be desired. But they’re expanding that, and there are plans of where they want to go with it. So, this is a really important project for them.”

Audi retained Sauber’s 2025 driver line-up of Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto. After 12 rounds of the 2026 season, the team is eighth in the constructors’ championship with 16 points.

Bortoleto is 14th in the drivers’ standings with 10 points, while Hulkenberg is 15th with six points.

The 13th round of the season, the Italian Grand Prix, will be held at Monza from 4-6 September.

  • Isack Hadjar Shares Injury Update as He Targets Red Bull Return at Italian GP

Isack Hadjar Shares Injury Update as He Targets Red Bull Return at Italian GP

Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar is “hopeful” of returning to the Formula 1 grid for the Italian Grand Prix after a wrist injury ruled him out of the Dutch Grand Prix.

Hadjar suffered the injury during Formula 1’s summer shutdown. Although he missed the final F1 race at Zandvoort, the driver said he was “healing fast” while filming with the Milton Keynes-based team last weekend.

Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson replaced Hadjar alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen, but Hadjar remained at Zandvoort to support the team.

“Actually, it’s my first injury ever in my whole existence, career, whatever,” he told Red Bull in a behind-the-scenes video from the Dutch Grand Prix.

“It’s weird to be on the bench and I’m not happy about it, for me and for the team. Obviously, I want to be there every lap.”

    Hadjar targets Monza return

Pointing to his braced wrist, Hadjar added: “It’s not swollen, which is very good. It’s a good sign. So, actually, it’s healing fast. Every day I have a bit more mobility and I’m hopeful for Monza.”

Lawson scored six points for Red Bull while standing in for Hadjar, finishing seventh at Zandvoort.

“As for Liam, it’s never easy to jump from one team to another,” team principal Laurent Mekies said. “Today he took the points that we were able to take. Yesterday, he did a very good job in qualifying, being very close to Max and we thank him for having been able to adapt so quickly to the team.”

The Italian Grand Prix at Monza is scheduled to take place from 4-6 September. Neither Red Bull nor Hadjar has officially confirmed whether he will return to the cockpit in Italy.

Hadjar currently sits eighth in the drivers’ standings with 68 points, while his team-mate Verstappen is sixth with 112 points.

  • Ferrari Urged to Support Lewis Hamilton as Guenther Steiner Warns of Team Orders

Ferrari Urged to Support Lewis Hamilton as Guenther Steiner Warns of Team Orders

Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner believes Ferrari must establish clear rules of engagement and support Lewis Hamilton over Charles Leclerc if the team is to remain in contention for the 2026 Formula 1 championship.

Ferrari’s internal driver dynamic came under scrutiny after the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where contrasting strategies created tension between Hamilton and Leclerc. Hamilton was running on fresher tyres and had stronger pace, but was held up behind his Ferrari team-mate. The delay cost the seven-time world champion valuable time and led to frustrated radio complaints.

Steiner calls for clear Ferrari team orders

Speaking on The Red Flags Podcast, Steiner argued that Ferrari should have agreed on potential team orders before the race rather than trying to manage the situation during it.

“You cannot implement team orders during a race,” Steiner explained. “You need to agree them beforehand. The realistic thing is, can Charles really win the world championship? Maybe not. And who is in front? Lewis.

“I haven’t done the calculations of how realistic it is for him to win the world championship, but if one of the two can win, it is Lewis. So, as somebody else has shown, if you want to win, it’s very tight up front there. You need to put your money on the guy who has got the better chance.

“That’s the guy in front, who has got more points, and that is the only selling point to Charles. ‘Hey buddy, your team-mate has done better up to now. Now he’s number one.’”

Fred Vasseur must lead Ferrari’s championship strategy

Steiner said Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur is responsible for making the team’s position clear to both drivers and deciding whether one driver should receive priority in the title fight.

“Fred, that is his job,” he said. “I don’t think John Elkann should or would get involved in it because if he gets involved in that one at that stage, he needs to run the team.

“But I think Fred is very much in control of it because Fred needs to win a world championship.”

Lando Norris’ McLaren Contract Extension Includes Detail F1 Fans Are Talking About

One detail of Lando Norris’s new McLaren contract extension has particularly impressed Formula 1 fans, who have described the agreement as “well deserved”.

The reigning F1 world champion has signed a contract extension that will keep him with McLaren until at least the end of 2030. As part of the deal, the 26-year-old will also receive the MCL39 chassis in which he secured his maiden drivers’ championship in 2025.

Norris made his McLaren debut in 2019 and has now started 163 grands prix for the Woking-based team, more than any other driver. The Briton’s career record includes 13 grand prix victories, 48 podium finishes, 18 pole positions, 20 fastest laps, 1,589 points and one drivers’ title.

“The perfect choice for both sides, Lando showed McLaren loyalty and it more than paid off with a title, so he deserves a new mega deal. He might possibly be a one-team guy for his career, and he might not be done winning titles either,”

    one fan commented on Reddit.

“Well deserved. I hope this comes with a big salary increase because he’s been one of the best drivers on the grid this season and has a title. He literally reminds me of Button after 2009 but with a higher skill ceiling.”

    another fan posted.

    Lando Norris’s championship-winning McLaren chassis

The decision to give Norris his championship-winning MCL39 quickly became a major talking point among fans.

“This is such a beautiful gesture from McLaren to give Lando the championship-winning car. Well-deserved extension with the loyalty he’s given them from the very beginning and paid off well with the title last year. Plus, with what he’s been doing so far this season, even with the reliability woes earlier in the year, he’s going to be competitive with them for much longer,”

    another fan wrote.

“Big fat contract extension and he’s being gifted his championship-winning car. What a day for the lad!”

someone else posted, while another commented:

“Such an insane gift to be able to get your first championship-winning car. Fully deserved. He’s stuck with the team through thick and thin! Bro is for sure going to celebrate tonight.”

George Russell Treats Mercedes Team Members to Special Silverstone Karting Event

George Russell celebrated Mercedes’ double podium at the Dutch Grand Prix by rewarding team members from the Brackley and Brixworth facilities with a private karting event at Silverstone Circuit.

Mercedes confirmed the event on social media, posting on X: “Swapping the W17 for the kart. All smiles as George treated team members from both Brackley and Brixworth to a special karting experience at Silverstone.”

Russell joins Mercedes staff for Silverstone karting day

The event brought together employees from Mercedes’ main headquarters in Brackley and Mercedes High Performance Powertrains (HPP) in Brixworth.

“We’re here at Silverstone doing a team karting day,” Russell told the camera. “A thousand people applied from Brackley and Brixworth, but we can only fit 170 people. Really looking forward to it, and I’m going to be racing with them.”

After the staff had completed several laps, Russell put on his race suit and joined them on track. He also handed out medals to the participants at the end of the event.

Fans responded positively to footage of Russell enjoying the day. One commenter on X wrote: “It’s so nice seeing George this happy. It makes you realise how different things could be with a bit more support. Obviously, I’m not talking about Marcus, Katsu, and the others; you know full well who the problem is…”

Another fan added: “I really love how happy George looks for the entire day. He really loves this team.”

Some comments took a more sarcastic tone, including: “Just give him the kart at Monza. Probably be more reliable” and “He finally gets a reliable car, no wonder he’s happy.”

    Mercedes leads 2026 constructors’ championship

The karting event comes during a strong 2026 campaign for Mercedes. The team currently leads the constructors’ championship with 425 points, while Ferrari is second on 338 points.

Russell sits second in the drivers’ championship, 59 points behind his team-mate Kimi Antonelli. He is level on points with Lewis Hamilton.

The 13th round of the season will be held at Monza during the Italian Grand Prix weekend from 4-6 September.
