    Fred Vesti Delights Fans With Mercedes V8 Demonstration Run in Singapore

    Mercedes Formula 1 reserve driver Fred Vesti completed a live street demonstration run in Singapore on Sunday, 30 August, as the headline attraction at the adidas Orchard Ignition festival.

    The event was organised in partnership with Mercedes-AMG, adidas and global partner BABYMONSTER. Vesti completed three separate runs during Sunday afternoon, driving the Mercedes W04 through Orchard Road and performing doughnuts in front of the crowd.

    Footage of the Danish driver’s demonstration was later shared on social media, where fans praised the sound and spectacle of the V8-powered Formula 1 car.

    “Can’t imagine the atmosphere and adrenaline rush being this close to an F1 car!”

    One fan posted the comment on a video that had been viewed more than 136,000 times at the time of writing.

    “Man, those V8 beasts are meant to be let loose!”

    Another fan wrote, while a third added:

    “Wonder how many phones came out the second that V8 fired up.”

    Fred Vesti welcomes Singapore street demonstration

    Vesti said ahead of the event that driving a Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team car through Orchard Road would be a memorable experience. He also highlighted the opportunity to bring Formula 1 closer to fans in Singapore.

    “Driving a Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team car through the heart of Orchard Road is going to be a special experience,” Vesti said ahead of the event.
    “Demonstration runs are all about bringing fans closer to the sport and giving them a taste of the speed, sound and excitement that make F1 unique.
    “Singapore is already one of the standout events on our calendar, so to be part of the city’s first street demo run in more than a decade is something I’m really looking forward to.
    “Our sport is at its best when it connects with people, and this event does that in a really exciting way. It builds on some of the incredible activations that our team and adidas have already created; once again going beyond motorsport to bring fans of racing, music and culture together in one place.
    “I’m excited to put on a show in the car, but the whole weekend is going to be special. It’s a chance to create a memorable experience for fans and introduce new audiences to our sport.”

    The three-time Defensive Player of the Year ended his retirement after agreeing to a one-year, $20 million contract with the Rams. His wife, Erica Donald, immediately celebrated the decision on social media.

    Erica wrote alongside laughing and heart emojis. NFL insider Clarence Hill Jr. responded by comparing her support with Gisele Bundchen’s public reaction to Brady’s return to football.

    The comment reopened debate about Brady’s brief retirement in 2022. Brady initially stepped away from the NFL, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family, but reversed the decision six weeks later.

    Bundchen publicly supported Brady at the time, although she later expressed concerns about his return to the NFL. Reports also indicated that the couple were experiencing marital problems before they filed for divorce in October 2022.

    That history gave Hill’s comparison added significance, although Donald’s situation appears to be markedly different.

    Donald said his return to the Rams would not have happened without his wife’s approval.

    “I think my wife played a huge part in this, me making this decision, period,” Donald said. “Because, if the wife wasn’t happy, it wasn’t gonna get done. We gotta make sure that the household was good. The kid was okay with it all, having them hard conversations, figuring things out. What I wanted to do, if I was gonna do it, how would we do it.”

    He said Erica ultimately gave him her full backing.

    “So, my wife was onboard. She said, ‘If you wanna do this, just put your 100%.’ … She played a huge part in me figuring this out because it really wasn’t an easy decision.”

    Donald first met Erica in 2015 while she was working for the Rams, and the couple later married privately.

    Donald’s comeback may be a personal decision for his family, but one social media exchange was enough to bring Bundchen and Brady’s old retirement drama back into the NFL conversation.

    Jenson Button has compared racing against Fernando Alonso with battling Michael Schumacher, praising the Spaniard’s aggressive but fair approach and ability to adapt to any Formula 1 car.

    Writing in his Jenson’s Journal column for Aston Martin ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, the 2009 F1 world champion reflected on Alonso’s career as speculation continues over whether the Aston Martin driver will remain in the championship beyond the 2026 season.

    “The biggest compliment I can give Fernando is that fighting him was very similar to fighting with Michael Schumacher,” Button wrote. “In my experience against them it would be hard but fair – it was on the limit every time and I loved that. That was part of the challenge.

    “When I won my first grand prix in Hungary, I was fighting against them and that’s what you want as a driver. You want to be fighting against the best, against the greats, to see how you compare.

    “In my career I got to race against the likes of Fernando and Michael, as well as Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. I’ve been really lucky to have raced against some of the true legends of the sport.”

    Button also highlighted Alonso’s distinctive driving style and versatility across different cars and set-ups.

    “Fernando drives like no one else. He’s aggressive, he can adapt brilliantly, and it’s been that way all through his career.”

    Alonso, 45, has faced growing questions about his Formula 1 future. Rumours of retirement and a possible move to Alpine have circulated, but the Aston Martin driver has not yet confirmed his plans beyond the 2026 season.

    “Obviously, this year has been tough, but it’s still an exciting time to be at Aston Martin Aramco and to be working with people like Adrian Newey. Any F1 driver would love to race a car designed by him, and to experience first-hand him driving this team forward,” Button added.

    “I know how difficult it is to decide your future, and he’s been there once before. He left the sport and came back, so he obviously left too early. Now, he will make sure that he’s 100 per cent certain that he doesn’t want to be in the sport before he leaves.

    “Fernando’s still got so much more to give in F1. I would love to see him in an Aston Martin fighting for wins. That’s where he should be, and it’s where this team is aiming to be.”

    Kimi Antonelli Reveals “different mindset” Ahead of F1 Italian Grand Prix Return

    Kimi Antonelli heads into this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix with a 59-point lead in the Formula 1 drivers’ championship and a very different outlook from his difficult home-race debut at Monza in 2025.

    Antonelli endured a troubled weekend last year. The Mercedes driver received a five-second penalty after colliding with Williams driver Alex Albon and was shown a black-and-white flag for exceeding track limits. He ultimately scored two points with a ninth-place finish.

    Now 20, Antonelli returns to Monza as the championship leader and a six-time grand prix winner this season. Speaking to F1.com before his home race, the Italian said he would approach the weekend with a “different attitude”.

    “I’m very excited. I think it’s going to be a great atmosphere and it’s going to be a lot different compared to last year,” he said. “I’m definitely going in with a different attitude, different mindset, and definitely I feel like I’m going to be able to enjoy the weekend a lot more. I’m really looking forward to be back.”

    Antonelli set for minimum 10-place grid penalty at Monza

    Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff confirmed during the Dutch Grand Prix weekend that Antonelli would take a grid penalty at his home race because of a planned power unit change.

    The final penalty has not yet been confirmed. Its severity will depend on how many new power unit components Mercedes installs in Antonelli’s car, but it will be at least 10 places.

    “With Kimi, we’re taking the full thing. Our calculations say that that’s the best track to take it,” Wolff explained.

    “Obviously, algorithms don’t take their nationality into consideration. We’re here to fight for a championship and not get the most PR. So yeah, that’s what we’re going to do.”

    The Italian Grand Prix will be held at Monza from 4-6 September.

    Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron, teammates in Washington, will fill the roster spots left by Wilson and Plum.

    Both players had previously participated in national team camps, but their roles have now changed significantly. They will have the opportunity to join the squad tasked with defending the United States’ historic dominance in the Women’s Basketball World Cup.

    Team USA faces World Cup without two veteran stars

    The original Team USA roster was announced in early August and included Caitlin Clark, Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese and Wilson. Plum was also selected among the 12 players.

    Now, just days before the tournament begins, the United States must prepare for the World Cup without two of its most experienced stars. The goal remains unchanged: win the trophy again. However, the path to a fifth consecutive title has become more difficult.

    Lando Norris Insists He Has Not Changed Since Winning the F1 Championship

    Lando Norris says winning the Formula 1 world championship has not changed his personality, although achieving his childhood dream has given him greater calm and confidence away from the pressures of the title fight.

    The McLaren driver discussed his championship success in an interview with Sky Sports, filmed after he announced a contract extension with the Woking-based team through the end of 2030.

    “It hasn’t, which is exactly what I would want,” Norris explained when asked how he thinks winning the championship has changed him. “I don’t want it to change me. I don’t want it to change who I am. I think I just get to go around with a feeling that I’ve accomplished something very few people in the world get to achieve, and I know I’ve achieved my dream as a kid.

    “That’s something, again, not many people get to achieve. So I know how lucky I am. I know how fortunate I’ve been to be with McLaren.”

    Norris remains focused on the Formula 1 title fight

    For the 26-year-old, the biggest change has been in his perspective away from the cockpit rather than in his approach on the track.

    “There’s an element of I know that people have high expectations, and I have high expectations for myself, and that’s where everything starts,” he said about the pressure of the current championship campaign.

    “But there’s also the element of we had such a tough start to the year. We’ve been very, very unfortunate with a lot of things. We knew we would start on the back foot. [Fighting for the championship] certainly wasn’t the first thought we had. The fact that it’s become a thought is a pretty awesome thing.

    “So I’m very relaxed that I’m in the position of being the chaser, of course. But every time I’m on track, I don’t necessarily feel different because of it. Every time I put my helmet on, I still want to win today. I want to be first today. I want to be on pole. And that’s the same mentality that I’ve always had.

    “It changes my outlook, especially when I’m out of the car. But I wouldn’t say it changes anything when I’m in it, because when I’m in it, it’s always 100%. It’s always go flat out. It’s always, don’t embarrass yourself. I want to be number one, no matter what situation I’m in. 

    “So, yeah, certainly just being off track, being more relaxed, being able to work with the team in an even better way than ever, that’s what’s also helping.”

    US Open organisers have not yet commented following the Williams-Kenin match. However, they have previously argued that late-night scheduling benefits fans.

    “Without question late-night matches were heavily discussed and reviewed after the 2022 US Open,” tournament director Stacey Allaster said in 2023, after opting to maintain the late schedule.

    “We looked at starting the evening session earlier, instead of 7pm start at 6pm, but it’s not really a possibility because it’s hard for New Yorkers to get here even at 7pm.”

    “We talked about [changing to] one match at night, but we felt that’s not fair to our fans. One of the realities we have in tennis is that we are not defined by a start and an end time. We can have a short match or we can have a five-hour match.”

    Why late US Open matches create scheduling problems

    That uncertainty is where the problems arise. Organisers may not expect every match to run long, but they know extended matches are always possible.

    A five-set men’s match can easily last more than four or even five hours, while a women’s match that goes the distance can comfortably exceed three hours. When those matches are played back-to-back on Arthur Ashe Stadium with only a short break between them, the second player may not finish until around 3am.

    Williams and Kenin began their match so late because Novak Djokovic’s defeat by Mariano Navone went to five sets and lasted more than four hours.

    By the time Williams and Kenin finished, the crowd inside the 23,933-capacity stadium had become sparse.

    Shedeur Sanders could already face a difficult path to playing time with the Cleveland Browns, and that challenge may become even more complicated if Deshaun Watson fails to perform.

    Cleveland’s decision to continue investing in Watson has drawn criticism, especially because Sanders’ development could become tied to the veteran quarterback’s future. ESPN analyst Jason Fitz questioned the entire structure of the Browns’ quarterback room.

    “What a mess. What an absolute mess,” Fitz said.

    Watson’s contract and status have made Cleveland’s quarterback situation unusually complex. Every decision involving the veteran carries consequences for the players waiting behind him, including Sanders.

    Fitz said the Browns have created a problem that extends beyond the basic question of who should start.

    “You have a quarterback situation where you’re trying to figure out what Deshaun Watson is, you’re trying to figure out what Shedeur Sanders is,” Fitz said.

    That uncertainty could limit Sanders’ development if Cleveland spends too much time trying to make the Watson experiment work before fully evaluating its younger quarterback.

    Sanders entered the NFL needing consistent opportunities to develop, but those chances could become more difficult to find if the Browns remain committed to Watson regardless of his performance.

    Browns could face pressure if Deshaun Watson struggles

    The biggest complication could arise if Watson fails to play well. Cleveland would then face pressure to make a change, but any decision involving Sanders would come amid intense expectations and scrutiny rather than as part of a carefully planned development process.

    Fitz believes the Browns have made their quarterback situation unnecessarily difficult.

    “The Browns have burdened themselves with this Deshaun Watson experiment,” he said.

    That burden could eventually affect Sanders as well. If Watson performs, Sanders may spend significant time waiting for an opportunity. If Watson struggles, calls for a change could place the rookie in a difficult situation before Cleveland has determined whether he is genuinely ready.

    Neither outcome gives Sanders the straightforward development path a young quarterback typically needs. The Browns still have time to establish a clear hierarchy, but their continued uncertainty surrounding Watson risks making Sanders’ first NFL season far more complicated than necessary.

    If the veteran ultimately fails to justify Cleveland’s faith, the pressure surrounding Sanders could quickly become even greater.
