Business Coach: ‘Don’t Have a Policy Problem, Have a Person Problem’—Managers Punishing Entire Teams for One Employee’s Actions Are Making a Mistake

A business coach is drawing attention on TikTok after arguing that managers should not punish an entire team because one employee misuses workplace freedom.

The creator, who uses the name Zero Dollar Coach on TikTok, posted the video last week and had received more than 40,000 likes at the time of publication. Speaking directly to the camera while sitting outdoors, he described himself as a laid-back boss who prioritizes responsible employees and handles workplace problems individually.

He said he did not mind when employees arrived 15 minutes late, and that he did not always penalize them for using company supplies outside work or taking extended vacation time. Although he acknowledged that employees had abused each of those freedoms, he argued that individual incidents should not result in stricter rules for everyone.

Why managers should address employees individually

The coach’s central argument was that managers sometimes introduce company-wide policies because they do not want to confront the individual employee responsible for a problem.

He gave several examples. If one employee misuses their phone, a manager may create a new phone policy. If someone repeatedly leaves early on Fridays, the company might impose a stricter attendance rule. And if an employee treats the supply room like a personal hardware store, everyone could eventually face tighter restrictions.

The creator believed that companies “don’t have a policy problem, [but] a person problem.” He said, “When you take something away from everybody because one person abused it”, good employees may wonder why they are being punished for someone else’s actions.

@zerodollarcoaching I don’t care if you’re late. I care about not being a lazy boss. Most owners punish twenty good people because one guy named Mike couldn’t handle freedom. That’s not a policy problem. That’s a “you’re scared of a conversation” problem. Treat your ‘Nicoles’ like they deserve. Deal with your ‘Mikes’ directly. EQUALITY or FAIRNESS? Pick one. #BusinessOwner #RealTalk #Management ♬ original sound – Zero Dollar Coach

Equality versus fairness in the workplace

The video also addressed the difference between equality and fairness at work. The creator argued that a relaxed management style does not require every employee to receive identical treatment. Instead, responsible employees should receive more flexibility, while employees who repeatedly misuse that trust should face consequences.

“If you are responsible, I’ll give you freedom; if you abuse that freedom, I’ll deal with you,” he said. He added that continued misconduct could eventually lead to dismissal.

He rejected the idea that treating employees fairly necessarily means treating everyone in exactly the same way. “If 19 people can handle freedom and one person can’t, taking it away from all 20 isn’t fair,” he said.

Managers, he argued, should be willing to speak with individual employees rather than making everyone’s jobs more difficult.

Customer Asks If Barista Was Named After a Country, Debates Tipping Aloud, Complains About Free Sample, and Interrupts Staff Meeting for Filtered Water

A TikTok video from creator @jorlala has drawn more than 1.1 million views and over 6,800 comments after describing an unusual customer interaction that left a barista confused and frustrated from the start.

Jordan said the early-morning incident involved a series of unrelated questions, a dispute over tipping, and a later complaint about a free food sample.

The customer initially ordered coffee in a mug before asking about other nearby businesses, including a bagel shop and Cheesecake Factory’s opening hours. She then proposed borrowing the mug to get a bagel next door before returning to use the coffee shop’s Wi-Fi, according to Jordan.

The customer also asked whether Jordan was named after the country of Jordan or Michael Jordan. Jordan said she denied both possibilities and explained that she was likely named after a character from a show her mother liked.

The conversation then shifted to the customer’s sleep schedule and whether she should find an early-morning job.

“I should probably get a job. I think I just need to get a job,”

the customer said as Jordan tried to redirect the conversation toward completing the order.

Jordan said the customer did not respond when her name was called and had not yet paid. When Jordan asked her to tap her card, the customer asked whether she was required to leave a tip. After hesitating over the decision, she ultimately left 90 cents, Jordan said.

The customer later returned to the counter and accused staff of leaving out the oat milk she had requested. Jordan said the oat milk had already been included in the original order. She also told the customer that the drink had already been called and that she had not heard it.

Later, the TikToker offered customers in the lobby free samples of a turkey bacon sandwich. One of the customers was a man who had repeatedly been interrupted by the same woman’s conversation.

Jordan said the customer took a sample for herself and then complained that her piece did not contain any visible bacon.

“That’s on you because you grabbed a sample that didn’t have a piece of bacon on it,”

Jordan said she told the customer before walking away.

Viewers react to customer’s questions and tip

Many viewers focused on the tipping exchange and the customer’s unusual line of questioning. One commenter wrote:

“‘Do I have to tip you’ honestly … after that interaction yes. Yes you should.”

Another commenter questioned the customer’s claim that she had woken up early:

“‘Up early’??? Sounds like she maybe pulled an all nighter.”

Jordan said the customer later interrupted a conversation she was having with her team to ask for a glass of water. The customer then asked whether the water was filtered and said she needed it to take medication before leaving shortly afterward.

A separate commenter compared the interaction with an experience involving their own child:

“this is how my toddler and I interact during the day.”

The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the identity of the customer described in the video or the specific location of the coffee shop. The details reflect the account shared by @jorlala on TikTok.

The video from @mercedesctamayo had received just over 70,000 views at the time of publication. In the clip, she told followers how excited she was to return to her 9-to-5 shift on a Monday morning, saying she never thought she would feel like saying “Happy Monday” again.

Although the manager described her schedule as 9 to 5, an on-screen caption showed her hours as 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. She also explained that she had moved from a standalone McDonald’s to a restaurant located inside a gas station.

That change did not dampen her enthusiasm. She highlighted the excitement of wearing the iconic manager’s hat, which is given only to employees, and texted her supervisor to say she had arrived before finishing her preparations for the day.

After applying perfume, putting on lip gloss and checking her appearance in the mirror, she was ready to leave with her pink bag. She told viewers, “Fast food has my heart, McDonald’s has my heart; so I’m really happy to be back.”

Before entering the restaurant for her long shift, she added, “Welcome to paradise.”

Later, the TikToker posted an update about her first day back at work.

She said the day had been good and productive, and that the shift seemed to pass quickly. She also described the workplace as filled with positive energy.

The manager praised her general managers and colleagues, saying they were all very kind. Reflecting on her return, she advised followers, “Honestly, when you know you’re supposed to be somewhere, stay there.”

Because it was only her first day back, she said she was looking forward to what came next and hinted that she would continue sharing updates about her life as a McDonald’s manager. She also posted a follow-up video showing her commute home.

‘I’m a Very Avid Liar’: Teen Says Strict Parental Rules Taught Her to Hide Things

A TikTok video from creator @meitham is going viral after she shared the strict household rules she follows, prompting debate over parental supervision, privacy and control. The video, captioned ‘Can’t forget curfew,’ has received more than 29,300 likes and over 200 comments.

In the video, Mei describes rules covering electronics, phone calls, social plans and her whereabouts. She said she must charge her electronic devices outside her bedroom every night. By about 11 p.m., her laptop, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and phone must be left in the kitchen or another location outside her room.

Although Mei said some of the restrictions were introduced because of her past behavior, she said they continue to affect her daily life.

Mei says her parents monitor calls, outings and location

Mei also described a rule preventing her from FaceTiming friends. She said her parents become upset when she spends time texting or talking to friends at home because they believe being at home should mean spending time with family or studying.

    @meitham Can’t forget curfew ? #strictparents #grwm #getreadywithme #makeuproutine

Her parents also require detailed information about every outing, including who will be there, when it will begin and when it will end. Mei said she must tell them in advance about any changes to those plans.

She said her parents require her to carry an AirTag in her bag and keep location sharing enabled on her phone. They also monitor her transactions and question her about purchases they do not remember approving.

According to Mei, the restrictions have caused her to hide things from her parents. She said she now considers herself an ‘avid liar’ because she has learned to conceal information to avoid being reprimanded.

Mei said she performs well in school and focuses on her studies, although she sometimes skips class to spend time with friends. She added that she does not party often or use drugs.

Viewers debate whether the rules are strict or lenient

Viewers offered different interpretations of Mei’s household rules in the comments, with several saying they could relate to her experiences. One commenter called the rules ‘normal,’ while another asked, “why do we lowkey have the same parents?” Some TikTok users also said they were familiar with being prevented from calling friends.

Other commenters described the rules as relatively lenient. One called them “basic rules in my house”, while another wrote, “this is light.” A third commenter said they were from a Muslim household and that their family had followed similar rules since childhood.

  • Restaurant Manager Says He ‘Fired’ Customer After String of Complaints: ‘We Can’t Meet Your Expectations’

Restaurant Manager Says He ‘Fired’ Customer After String of Complaints: ‘We Can’t Meet Your Expectations’

A restaurant manager says he asked a customer to leave after a series of complaints during her lunch visit, including a one-star Google review she posted while still inside the restaurant.

The manager, who uses the TikTok handle @buddy.love711, shared his account of the incident in a video that received more than 100,000 likes and comments. Most viewers appeared to support the manager and his server.

Customer complained about the updated menu

According to the manager, the woman arrived alone and asked to speak with him because several dishes she remembered were no longer available. He explained that the restaurant had updated its menu several months earlier and that she had not visited in two or three years.

The manager said he apologized and suggested alternative dishes, including one he personally recommended. However, the customer continued looking at the menu and told the server that she needed more time.

As more guests arrived, the manager asked the server, who was serving other tables, to check on the woman repeatedly. The customer eventually asked the server to refill her drink, which the manager viewed as another indication that she was becoming impatient.

The manager later received an email complaint from a corporate guest. He said he discovered that the complaint had come from the same customer, who claimed she had been waiting for more than 20 minutes and that her server had been neglecting her.

He then went to the table and took the customer’s order himself while her server attended to a newly seated party of six. The manager also offered her an entrée similar to a dish she had previously enjoyed, but he said her complaints continued.

Manager says he asked customer to leave

After the meal arrived, the woman reportedly complained that she had not been served bread beforehand. The manager said the restaurant had never served bread during all the years he had worked for the company.

He also said she complained that the main course did not taste like the discontinued dish she had wanted. The manager removed the entrée from the table and gave her another menu so she could order a different dish.

At that point, he received an alert about a one-star Google review from the customer. The review criticized the restaurant’s service and management, and the manager said it had been posted while she was still inside the restaurant.

He then decided to ask her to leave.

“I’m just gonna fire this customer,” he said in the video, adding that he did not want his server to continue dealing with her. He showed the woman the review and told her that the staff had tried to address her complaints. He ultimately asked her to leave because the restaurant could not meet her expectations.

The video’s text overlay read, “Let’s normalize firing bad customers.”

    Viewers support restaurant manager

Several commenters praised the manager for defending his employee. One commenter shared a story about a server who persuaded a chef to prepare a discontinued dish for her during pregnancy, arguing that treating restaurant workers with respect can make a significant difference.

Other viewers questioned why a customer who had not visited the restaurant for two or three years would expect the menu to remain unchanged. Some also found it unusual that she called the restaurant from inside to request a drink refill.

The Daily Dot said it was unable to independently verify the identity of the customer or the restaurant featured in the video. The details are based solely on @buddy.love711’s account shared on TikTok.

  • Travel Vlogger Questions American Tipping Culture After Hotel Room-Service Charge: ‘Why Is It My Responsibility?’

Travel Vlogger Questions American Tipping Culture After Hotel Room-Service Charge: ‘Why Is It My Responsibility?’

A popular travel vlogger’s TikTok video about American tipping culture has sparked widespread debate after he shared a hotel room-service bill that included both a delivery fee and a separate tip.

@ken_abroad documented the experience during a visit to Boston, United States. The video received more than 887,000 views on his verified TikTok account, where he explained why the charges left him confused.

Hotel Room-Service Bill Includes Delivery Fee and Tip

The vlogger said he regularly orders room service while traveling but had not encountered a hotel delivery fee in years. His bill included a $6 room-service fee as well as a 20% tip worth an additional $13.

He pointed out that the server would receive $13 on top of minimum wage, bringing the combined amount to $19. The bill also stated that the room-service fee was a separate charge rather than a tip.

That raised a question for the travel vlogger: If the fee was not intended for the person delivering the food, who or what was it for? He also questioned why the money was not going directly to the delivery person or server.

“Tipping culture in America is really not making sense to me.”

At the end of the video, @ken_abroad noted that the hotel was a four-star Marriott property. He also showed the food after it arrived, displaying takeout bowls inside a paper bag.

    Viewers Debate American Tipping Culture

The TikTok video generated more than 1,800 comments, with many viewers agreeing with the vlogger’s concerns about the room-service charges.

Some users told him he should not feel obligated to tip, writing, “Stop feeling pressured to tip. Just don’t do it.”

Another commenter criticized the broader tipping system, saying, “It’s ridiculous that you’re expected to pay people’s wages for your food…It should fall to the employer to pay the employees.”

Some commenters described the charge as a scam, while others said they would have picked up the food themselves.

The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the hotel’s identity, the specific charges shown in the video or the property’s room-service fee policies. The details are based solely on @ken_abroad’s account shared on TikTok.

Server Says She Took a Nap Before Her Shift, Woke Up 14 Hours Later to Missed Calls: ‘I Never Sleep That Long’

A TikTok creator says she accidentally slept through an entire restaurant shift after taking what was supposed to be a short pre-work nap.

The video from @kellybrooke.m had received more than 890,000 views and 4,700 comments at the time of publication. Kelly said she planned to rest briefly before her 3 p.m. shift but did not wake up until 4 a.m. the next morning.

She had recently returned from trips to Georgia and Texas and attributed part of her disrupted sleep schedule to the time changes. About an hour before work, she lay down on her couch while still wearing her work clothes and set multiple alarms in case she overslept.

When Kelly woke up, she found several missed calls and messages from coworkers and the restaurant asking if she was okay. She said she had never slept so deeply before.

“I never sleep that long or that hard. I will be waking up at any slight sound,” she said.

Kelly said she woke up in the same position in which she had fallen asleep and immediately realized that she had missed her entire shift.

“Now I have to say it out loud. I have to call the restaurant and say hey guys, yes, I, a 27-year-old woman, did sleep through my entire shift,” she said.

    Manager responds with understanding

Kelly waited until a reasonable hour before contacting a coworker who had repeatedly called overnight. She later learned that her colleagues were especially concerned because of an earlier medical episode that resulted in her being taken from her apartment by ambulance.

She said she had called out of work more often than usual during the previous month and a half because of ongoing health problems she could not fully explain. Kelly called her manager to apologize and offered to accept a written warning if necessary.

“She said girl, we’re good,” Kelly said, recalling her manager’s response.

According to Kelly, her manager acknowledged how difficult the previous month had been. She also said the manager had responded with similar understanding whenever Kelly needed to call out, including one occasion when Kelly called from a hospital while crying and said she could not make her shift.

Kelly works in Arizona, where employment is generally considered at-will. She said restaurant jobs often offer little tolerance for repeated absences, and that her manager’s consistent support was one reason she had remained in the position despite her recent difficulties.

Commenters share their own pre-shift nap stories

Many commenters focused on the manager’s response and shared stories about sleeping before work. One commenter asked which restaurant Kelly worked for, writing, “What restaurant?? I’d love to support one that actually treats their employees like human beings that’s so hard to find here.”

Another commenter described a similar experience while sick, writing, “love a good manager, i once called mine crying in the urgent care cause i got the flu right before a big weekend where we were already short staffed due to teenagers requesting off” [sic].

A third commenter warned viewers not to nap before a shift:

“NEVER EVER TAKE THE PRE SHIFT NAP. I learned the hard way after I slept for SIXTEEN HOURS STRAIGHT and missed a Saturday night… double.”

The Daily Dot said it was unable to independently verify the restaurant’s identity, the nature of Kelly’s ongoing health issues or the medical episode mentioned in the video. The details are based solely on @kellybrooke.m’s account on TikTok.

‘This Never Happens’: Woman’s Hinge Success Story Goes Viral on TikTok—They Lived Three Blocks Apart

A Los Angeles woman’s Hinge success story has gone viral on TikTok after she revealed that she met her current partner through the dating app—even though they lived just three blocks apart.

TikTok user @regularmaddie shared the story in a video that had received 4.4 million views at the time of publication. The couple connected on Hinge, discovered how close they lived to one another and eventually began dating. They are still together.

Hinge match turns into a hiking date

She said she initially thought it was unlikely that two people living within three blocks of each other would meet on Hinge. After they started talking, she invited him to join her on a hike.

The woman acknowledged that he was a stranger and that she was unsure whether meeting him was a wise decision. Nevertheless, they went hiking with her dog and had a great time getting to know each other.

She described him as easy to get along with and said their conversation flowed naturally. After the successful first date, they spent time together again at her home the following night.

During that visit, he asked about her weekend plans. She was preparing to take a road trip with her dog to visit her best friend, who lived 700 miles away.

After learning where they were going, he said he knew the area and offered to recommend places to visit. She then invited him to join the trip.

Once they decided to travel together, he offered to drive the entire distance, giving her what she called the passenger princess treatment. The pair eventually met her best friend, who absolutely “loved” him.

The couple made their relationship official

The three spent time together before the woman and her Hinge match began the drive home. During the return trip, he asked whether she wanted to make their relationship official.

Because neither of them was dating anyone else, she agreed to continue getting to know him as his partner. She said she was shocked by the question but happy to keep dating him.

After they had been seeing each other for a few weeks, she fell in love with him. However, she still had an important question: Did he want children?

She said she raised the subject subtly in conversation, but he wanted more time to think about it. She was comfortable waiting. Meanwhile, they decided to move in with her mother after both of their leases ended.

A few months later, her mother was diagnosed with a muscle-degenerative disorder. The woman told her partner that he could leave if he wanted to, but he chose to stay. Soon afterward, she asked him again about having children.

She said she was surprised to learn that he wanted children with her and hoped to become a stay-at-home father, a plan she supported. According to the woman, they are now living happily together.

The video received positive reactions from commenters who appreciated the couple’s relationship story. Several viewers expected a plot twist or some form of negativity, but the story did not take that turn. One user wrote, “Wow, this never happens.”

Woman Says U.S. Marshal Still Remembers Her Popcorn Chicken Incident at Walmart: ‘Now Y’all Have Scared Me Straight’

A TikTok video from @alexi.marie has drawn more than 219,000 likes and 3,600 comments after describing an incident at Walmart in which a U.S. Marshal watched her check out following a cashier’s failure to scan a car seat.

Alexi connected the encounter to an incident about a year earlier, when she and her boyfriend were stopped by loss prevention after eating popcorn chicken without paying for it during a $650 shopping trip.

She recalled that loss-prevention employees approached them as they left the store. According to Alexi, they said, “That popcorn chicken, we seen that,” then photographed her and her boyfriend and warned them that another incident would lead to an arrest.

During a recent Walmart visit, Alexi bought a car seat for her daughter along with seven or eight other items, including laundry detergent. She was talking to a friend on the phone during checkout and did not notice that the cashier had rung up everything except the car seat.

“I’m ringing everything, she’s ringing everything up. I’m on the phone with my friend, I’m not paying attention,”

Alexi said the cashier noticed the mistake after she had already inserted her card. Concerned about possible repercussions from the earlier popcorn chicken incident, she asked that the car seat be scanned properly.

She then noticed a man standing behind her in line with a carton of milk and tin foil. He placed his items down and showed her a badge while the car seat issue was being resolved.

    “I’m a Marshal,”

Alexi questioned why a U.S. Marshal would be involved in a dispute connected to popcorn chicken.

“Y’all didn’t send lost prevention? Y’all didn’t send the police? Y’all sent the Marshal over some popcorn chicken?”

She said the experience left her shaken and unwilling to risk another problem at the store.

“I am scared straight when I tell you I was crying over the popcorn chicken,”

Alexi also said she sensed Walmart employees following her during later visits. In response, she began proactively asking for help finding items. She argued that the attention was disproportionate to the amount of merchandise she was accused of taking, noting that other shoppers could also be carrying unpaid items.

She acknowledged responsibility for the original incident but said the response felt excessive.

“I did the crime, and I didn’t have to do the time. But now y’all have scared me straight,”

    Commenters share Walmart food stories

Reactions to the video included people sharing their own experiences with unpaid food while shopping. One commenter said:

“Girl I always eat popcorn chicken while shopping but I just scan the empty container.”

Another commenter asked for clarification about Walmart’s popcorn chicken:

“Walmart has popcorn chicken cooked and U can just grab it? I’ve never seen that” [sic].

A separate commenter described a similar experience in which their partner was stopped over food while other shoplifting went unaddressed:

“No bc me and my mom were in the store and got a 5 finger discount and my bf walked out before us eating some popcorn chicken and they stopped him for that chicken and didn’t trip off us” [sic].

The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the identity of the man described as a U.S. Marshal, Walmart’s internal loss-prevention practices or the specific store location involved. The details are based on @alexi.marie’s account shared on TikTok.

  • Claims of a ‘Cat In The Hat’-Inspired Killer in the U.K. and Ireland Go Viral, but Police Say It’s a Hoax

Claims of a ‘Cat In The Hat’-Inspired Killer in the U.K. and Ireland Go Viral, but Police Say It’s a Hoax

The Cat in the Hat serial killer trend is an AI-generated hoax and social media meme series about an alleged killer said to have stalked streets at night in Ireland and the United Kingdom. The figure was depicted wearing an outfit resembling Mike Myers’ Cat in the Hat costume from the 2003 film The Cat in the Hat.

How the Cat in the Hat killer hoax spread

The trend gained popularity on social media in August 2026. It followed a series of dark, horror-themed Cat in the Hat memes that reimagined scenes from the film, as well as an auction for the original Cat suit worn by Mike Myers.

As claims about the alleged killer circulated online, police in Ireland confirmed that the story was a hoax. There is no evidence that a real serial killer matching the online descriptions was stalking the streets.

The Cat in the Hat hoax has been compared with the creepy clown sightings that spread across social media in 2016.
