Tiger Woods Spotted on Driving Range for First Time Since March Car Crash

Speculation continues to surround Tiger Woods’ potential return to competitive golf, though no official timeline has emerged. The 15-time major champion has not teed it up in a tournament since 2024, a prolonged absence driven by a cascade of significant health setbacks and personal legal issues.

    Injury Timeline Sidelines the Star

Woods’ current hiatus stems from a pair of major medical procedures. He ruptured his Achilles tendon in March 2025, an injury that followed back surgery performed in October of the previous year. These physical ailments compound the limited playing schedule he has maintained since surviving a serious single-car crash in 2021 that left him with extensive leg injuries.

Legal Troubles and a Public Step Back

Adding to the uncertainty, Woods was involved in a road accident in March—his second arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. In the wake of that incident, Woods released a statement saying he was “stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health”.

    A Pattern of Off-Course Incidents

The recent arrest is the latest chapter in a turbulent off-course history that has impacted both his personal life and commercial standing.

    • 2009: A high-profile crash outside his home—involving a fire hydrant, a tree, and hedges—triggered revelations of extra-marital affairs, leading to his divorce and the loss of several lucrative sponsorship deals.
    • 2017: Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving after police found him slumped over the wheel of his parked car near his residence. He was sentenced to one year of probation.
    • 2021: A catastrophic rollover crash resulted in severe leg trauma, fundamentally altering his ability to compete at a high frequency.

With his competitive future clouded by health and legal matters, the golf world watches for any definitive signal regarding the next chapter of Woods’ career.

  • Tiger Woods Closer to Return

    Tiger Woods Closer to Return

Tiger Woods has remained largely absent from public life since the car accident he was involved in during March. However, this week he may participate in several Nexus Cup matches in New York, a charitable event with which he is associated.

Woods Spotted Practicing at Liberty National

Today, the Californian was seen hitting balls on the practice range at Liberty National Golf Club. During the clinic he conducted, Woods was asked about the progress of his game. He replied: “I can hit pretty much anything.” Observers noted a very smooth swing during the session.

    Extended Absence from Competitive Golf

Woods has not played a competitive round since the 2024 British Open at Royal Troon, marking more than two years away from tournament play. On March 11, 2025, he underwent surgery after rupturing his left Achilles tendon. In October of that same year, he had his seventh back surgery to replace a disc in his lower back.

    Previous Setbacks and Legal Issues

A potential return had been considered for the last Masters, until he was involved in an accident that resulted in a five-year driver’s license suspension. The golfer pleaded guilty to reckless driving and to refusing to submit to a legal test following the incident. Before settling his case with the U.S. Justice Department, Woods spent three months in a rehabilitation center in Switzerland.

    Speculation Surrounds Baycurrent Classic Appearance

Recently, there has been discussion regarding the possible participation of the 15-time Major winner in the Baycurrent Classic, scheduled for October 8 to 11. The PGA Tour event is held in Japan, and Woods’s image appears on the promotional poster. However, he has not confirmed anything related to a potential return to competition.

  • Scottie Scheffler Reclaims No. 1 Ranking and Wins His Second FedEx Cup

Scottie Scheffler Reclaims No. 1 Ranking and Wins His Second FedEx Cup

Scottie Scheffler ended the debate over his claim to a fifth consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year award by winning the Tour Championship and capturing his second FedEx Cup in three years.

After winning only one tournament during the regular season, Scheffler faced questions about whether he deserved the award ahead of golfers such as U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Chris Gotterup. Scheffler had recorded five runner-up finishes and 11 top-five results in his first 17 starts, making him arguably the season’s most consistent golfer even if he had not been its most frequent winner.

That discussion was settled Sunday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Scheffler started the final round three strokes behind Norway’s Viktor Hovland but shot a 4-under 66 over the final 18 holes to win by three strokes and claim his 22nd PGA Tour title. Ryan Gerard tied for third.

    Scheffler pulls away from Hovland

Leading Hovland by one stroke with three holes remaining, Scheffler hit a 317-yard drive into a left fairway bunker on the par-4 16th. His approach stopped 11 feet from the hole, and he converted the birdie putt to extend his advantage to two strokes.

Scheffler made par on the par-4 17th. Minutes later, Hovland narrowly missed an 8-foot birdie attempt on the 16th that would have halved the deficit. Hovland then sent his approach from 103 yards over the 17th green and into deep rough. The resulting bogey dropped him to 13 under and effectively ended his chances.

“The golf course got a bit firmer,” Scheffler said. “There was some wind. I feel like for Atlanta, this feels like a lot of wind. It’s pretty rare to get some wind here. Yeah, with the way the rough is, when it gets firm, the fairway started to play a little more narrow. Today was a day I was fortunate to get off to a good start and was able to make some birdies late in the round to kind of seal the deal.”

Scheffler began Sunday with two birdies in his first four holes and nearly aced the par-3 second, tying Hovland for the lead at 14 under. After making the turn at 2 under for the round, he caught Hovland again with an 8½-foot birdie putt on the 10th.

A birdie on the 13th gave Scheffler a one-stroke lead, but a bogey on the long par-4 14th, his only mistake on the back nine, put him back into a tie with Hovland and set up the decisive finish.

FedEx Cup victory strengthens Player of the Year case

“I think that’s something I’m very proud of,” Scheffler said. “I think when you look over the course of the season, and especially some of the tough starts; shooting over par to start a tournament on the PGA Tour is never a good spot to be in. I’m very proud of fighting back and having some good finishes and even giving myself some chances to win with some of those poor starts.”

“Overall, [I] just continued to battle, day in and day out. It’s something that I’m very proud of. It’s a gift to be out here on tour. Each and every day, I’m going to try to give it my best.”

The victory was Scheffler’s second in the FedEx Cup playoffs. He won the opening playoff event by eight strokes at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, two weeks earlier.

The only setback for the 30-year-old during the playoffs was hand, foot and mouth disease. He dealt with the viral illness and blisters on his hands during last week’s BMW Championship in St. Louis but still tied for 12th.

“Obviously, Scottie is unbelievable,” said Ludvig Åberg, who tied for fourth at 11 under. “He’s shown over and over again that he’s world No. 1, and you can just look at the scores in the last couple of groups, and there were no real good scores except for that 66. I thought today was quite difficult, but he played solid golf. He takes control of the tournament.”

Scheffler passes Woods on career earnings

Scheffler’s $10 million winner’s prize made him the PGA Tour’s all-time leader in career on-course earnings. He has earned approximately $130.4 million, ending Tiger Woods’ 26-year reign at the top. Woods has earned about $121 million during his career.

Scheffler is also expected to join Woods as the only golfers to win PGA Tour Player of the Year five consecutive times when the award is announced in December. Woods won the honor every season from 1999 through 2003.

Woods congratulated Scheffler on social media Sunday.

Three wins, five runner-ups and finishing the season No. 1. Those are some numbers to be proud of. Incredible consistency all season long. Congrats on a historic season, Scottie.— Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) August 30, 2026

With his second victory at East Lake, Scheffler joined Woods (three), Rory McIlroy (three) and Phil Mickelson (two) as multiple winners of the Tour Championship since the event began in 1987.

“He knows where the ball’s going,” Hovland said. “I don’t think he’s trying to do too much with it. I think he knows that he’s got an edge on most guys out here. So, he doesn’t have to do anything crazy. He can play smart and just kind of pick his spots, stay in it constantly.”

“Today, it wasn’t like anybody else really played all that great in contention, and that’s what you see, a lot of guys just gagging and throwing up, and that’s where he just kind of stays in it and shoots a nice score. That gets the job done.”

Scheffler won the 2024 Tour Championship at East Lake by four strokes over Collin Morikawa. He had begun that tournament with a two-shot lead over the field because of the event’s starting-strokes format.

Tiger Woods Is Unrecognizable as He Breaks Cover Five Months After Major Crash

Tiger Woods made a rare public appearance Tuesday to celebrate his longtime friend, former professional golfer Notah Begay III, five months after Woods’s rollover crash in Florida.

The 50-year-old golfer appeared in a prerecorded video message congratulating Begay on receiving the 2026 Payne Stewart Award. Woods looked markedly different, with gray streaks in his beard and a drawn expression, as he wore a purple polo shirt and reflected on their decades-long friendship.

Tiger Woods pays tribute to Notah Begay III

“It’s been an unbelievable ride with you,” he began. “You first came into my life when I was 11 years old, playing in the junior world, and you came to watch me play. Our friendship started there and never ended.”

“To see what you’ve done off the golf course – I know you’ve won four times on the tour, playing in the Presidents Cup…but to see what you’ve done off the course and for your local Native American communities, you’ve helped over 80,000 youths and their families, which is absolutely incredible,” he continued.

Woods also praised Begay’s work supporting Native American communities and young people.

“There are so many people out there who are struggling in those communities, and you’re trying to raise the bar to allow them to go on and achieve a lot more in life and have the successes that I think they deserve and you feel they deserve…Thank you for getting our friendship started, and I love you, dude.”

After the video was shared on social media, some fans commented on Woods’s appearance, while others defended the golf legend.

“Man, that’s sad,” wrote one person, while another added: “That is not Tiger Woods.”

Other comments included: “Love you, Tiger!”

A fourth commenter wrote: “How about everyone just understanding what we’re all wrestling/dealing with and that Tiger is like all of us. Remember what we’re wrestling with and have a little humility or, a lot.”

Tiger Woods’s legal battle after Florida crash

Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence on March 27 after rolling his vehicle while attempting to overtake a truck.

Authorities reportedly said Woods showed signs of impairment and appeared lethargic. Two opioid pills were allegedly found in his pocket.

The father of two was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a urine test. He pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court on September 8.

Following the arrest, Woods announced that he was stepping back from public life in a statement posted to X.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”

“I’ve committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally,” he continued.

“I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

Woods later spent time at a rehabilitation facility in Switzerland before returning in June. He has largely stayed out of the public eye since then.
