A psychiatrist who testified about Lindsay Clancy’s mental state during her trial has resigned from his position at Nemours Children’s Health in Delaware.
Dr. Avram Mack, who worked in the hospital’s behavioral health department, resigned on Aug. 24, according to a Nemours spokesperson. The reason for his resignation was not disclosed.
The spokesperson said Mack’s expert-witness testimony in the Clancy trial was connected to his private forensic practice, which was separate from his clinical work at Nemours.
Psychiatrist testified about Clancy’s mental health
Mack resigned after testifying for the prosecution for two days. He said he believed Clancy should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children.
During his testimony, Mack said he interviewed Clancy in April. He testified that he did not believe she met the criteria for a bipolar disorder diagnosis. Instead, he said she was suffering from major depressive disorder but retained control over her actions.
Jury considers criminal responsibility
Closing arguments were held on Thursday, and jury deliberations are scheduled to resume Monday.
Clancy is accused of strangling her three children at the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in 2023. A jury comprising nine women and three men is deciding whether her mental health made her legally responsible for their deaths.
