A groom is seeking a helicopter ride to London so he can play in a dream cricket match at Lord’s immediately after his wedding in North Wales.
Peter Melhuish, from Guildford, Surrey, is due to represent his club, Blackheath, in the Cawston Press Village Cup final at Lord’s on 6 September. However, the team captain is marrying his fiancée, Izzy Upton, in North Wales less than 24 hours earlier.
Melhuish and Upton, both 32, planned their wedding for the Saturday after Blackheath’s local league fixtures had finished for the season. They did not anticipate the club reaching the final of the Village Cup, a nationwide Sunday tournament for local cricket teams across the UK.
Now, Melhuish’s teammates are trying to raise around £9,000 to fund a helicopter flight for the newlyweds from North Wales to London. The couple would need to make the one-hour journey in time for the match’s 11:00 BST start.
