The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic this weekend: Invest 97-L in the northern Gulf of Mexico and the remnants of former Tropical Storm Dolly near Puerto Rico.
Invest 97-L has a higher chance of development
A weak area of low pressure about 125 miles south of southeastern Louisiana is producing showers and thunderstorms, according to the NHC.
Invest 97-L could develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm in the coming days as it moves westward across the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Redevelopment of Tropical Storm Dolly remnants is unlikely
Showers and thunderstorms remain associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly east of Puerto Rico, according to the NHC. However, the system shows no signs of development because it lacks a closed circulation.
Redevelopment is unlikely as the wave moves westward to west-northwestward at about 24 mph. It could bring locally heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico over the next several days.
