Key Highlights:
- DogeOS has launched a public testnet for building Dogecoin applications.
- The testnet supports familiar tools for developers experienced with EVM blockchains.
- Projects spanning DeFi, trading, games, prediction markets and consumer apps are already building on the network.
DogeOS Opens Public Testnet for Dogecoin Applications
DogeOS has launched a public testnet designed to give developers a live environment for creating and testing applications built around Dogecoin. The network also offers developers who already work with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchains a way to use familiar tools while building Dogecoin applications, a move intended to attract experienced teams to the ecosystem.
Dogecoin Ecosystem Teams Begin Building
Several projects are already developing products on the DogeOS testnet. Barkswap is working on a liquidity engine, while Superposition Finance is developing a Dogecoin lending protocol. Derps is building a perpetual exchange, Split Markets is developing non-liquidatable options, and USDoge is working on a collateralized-debt-position stablecoin.
Other teams are targeting prediction markets, launchpads, games and consumer applications. Snag is developing a prediction market aggregator, Anoncoin and Starbase are working on launchpads, and Doge Escape, PlaysOut and DogeFundMe are building games and consumer apps.
Jordan Jefferson, Founder CEO of DogeOS, described the testnet launch as a significant development for Dogecoin holders: “The teams joining this ecosystem are tackling the pieces DOGE has been missing: markets, financial tools, games and more ways to use Dogecoin. Today marks the beginning of Dogecoin’s evolution from asset to ecosystem.”
Mainnet Date Has Not Been Announced
DogeOS has not announced a date for its mainnet launch. The timing of each application will depend on the development schedule of the individual team building it.
Until the mainnet becomes available, the public testnet will serve as a development and testing environment for projects preparing their products. DogeOS is providing developer resources through its documentation and said it expects to introduce additional developer tools, integrations and ecosystem projects as the testnet develops.
Why This Matters
The testnet gives Dogecoin developers a shared environment for experimenting with financial products, markets, games and other applications beyond DOGE’s role as a digital asset. Its support for familiar EVM development tools could also make it easier for teams with existing blockchain experience to begin working in the Dogecoin ecosystem.
