Lexie Hull Leaves the Court to Surprise Indiana Fever Fans With an Unexpected Day at the Ballpark

Lexie Hull stepped away from her usual Indiana Fever routine to take part in a special night at Victory Field between the team’s games against the Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun.

Lexie Hull throws ceremonial first pitch

The event took place on August 27 during the Indianapolis Indians’ game against the Columbus Clippers. The evening was dedicated to Hull, giving the Indiana Fever guard an opportunity to connect with fans away from the basketball court.

Hull was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch. From the mound, she delivered the ball toward home plate in a role far removed from her usual position on the basketball court. The Indiana Fever’s official account also shared photos of her appearance on social media.

    Hull returns to WNBA action

Indiana Fever hosted the Connecticut Sun on Friday, August 28, one day after Hull’s appearance at the ballpark. Before the game, Hull drew attention with her fashion choice, arriving in a sparkling pink dress.

Indiana went on to secure a 111-91 victory. Hull contributed 7 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals in 24 minutes, helping the Fever produce an all-around performance.

Indiana Fever prepare for WNBA break

The win over Connecticut was especially important because it marked Indiana’s final game before the WNBA break, which was scheduled to accommodate the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

The pause will give Hull and the rest of the Fever several days away from competition. Indiana’s next game is scheduled for September 18, when the team visits the Toronto Tempo at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Canada.

  • Simone Biles Gets Huge Ovation at Fever Game, Shares Special Moment With Caitlin Clark on Historic Night

Simone Biles Gets Huge Ovation at Fever Game, Shares Special Moment With Caitlin Clark on Historic Night

Simone Biles knows what it feels like when an arena pauses to recognize greatness. She has heard those roars after Olympic medals, extraordinary routines and moments that changed gymnastics forever. On Friday night in Indianapolis, however, Biles was not competing. She was sitting in the stands when thousands of fans made sure she knew how much she still means to them.

When Biles appeared on the giant screen at Gainbridge Fieldhouse during the Indiana Fever’s game against the Connecticut Sun, the crowd erupted. The most decorated gymnast in history smiled and waved as the cheers continued. It was a powerful reception for an American sports icon, but the evening soon delivered another memorable moment.

Caitlin Clark makes WNBA history as Simone Biles watches

While Biles watched from the stands, Caitlin Clark was making history on the court.

Clark scored 34 points and provided 12 assists as Indiana defeated Connecticut 111-91. Kelsey Mitchell also scored 34 points. Clark became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 800 points and 300 assists in a single season. She also became the first player to combine 300 assists with at least 100 made three-pointers in one season.

Simone Biles and Caitlin Clark share a postgame embrace

One of the night’s most memorable images, however, took place away from the thousands of screaming fans.

After the game, Biles walked into the hallway outside the Fever locker room, where she and Clark finally met face-to-face. They smiled and embraced, and Clark greeted her warmly with a simple, “Good to see you.”

Biles also spent time greeting other Fever players. She exchanged hugs and smiles with Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull, Aliyah Boston and other Indiana stars. Sophie Cunningham gave the gymnastics legend an especially enthusiastic welcome, telling her, “You are a badass.” Biles was accompanied by her brother during the postgame visit.

The admiration clearly went both ways. Biles has seven Olympic gold medals and more World Championship medals than any gymnast in history, but she was not walking through the hallway expecting royal treatment. She was there as a sports fan, congratulating another group of women on what they had accomplished.

Biles attended her first WNBA game at the same arena exactly two years earlier, on August 28, 2024, when Indiana also played Connecticut. That night, Clark broke the WNBA rookie record for three-pointers in a season. Biles later met the Fever players and celebrated women’s sports, while Clark admitted she was having her own fangirl moment after meeting the Olympic superstar.

Two years later, Biles returned. Once again, Clark made history with the gymnastics icon watching from the stands.

This time, Clark was no longer a rookie finding her place in the league. She was the player who had just produced 34 points and 12 assists, helped Indiana win for the seventh time in nine games and achieved statistical combinations no player in WNBA history had previously reached.

For a few seconds in that hallway, however, none of those numbers seemed especially important.

It was simply Simone Biles and Caitlin Clark smiling and embracing—two of the biggest names in American sports sharing a moment of genuine mutual admiration.

  • Indiana Fever Make Ambitious Request Regarding Sophie Cunningham With Caitlin Clark’s Support

Indiana Fever Make Ambitious Request Regarding Sophie Cunningham With Caitlin Clark’s Support

Sophie Cunningham’s second season with the Indiana Fever has become about much more than staying healthy. After an injury ended her rookie campaign in Indiana, the veteran WNBA guard has returned as one of the league’s most efficient shooters—and the Fever believe her production deserves Sixth Player of the Year recognition.

Before Friday’s home game against the Connecticut Sun, Indiana publicly endorsed Cunningham for the award, highlighting the impact she has made as a reserve.

“She gives us the juice when she comes in off the bench,” the Fever posted, before adding: “Sophie Cunningham for 6th Player of the Year.”

Sophie Cunningham builds a strong Sixth Player of the Year case

The endorsement comes during a season in which Cunningham has become an important part of Indiana’s high-powered offense, which features Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.

Through 38 games, Cunningham is averaging 8.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 47.6% from the field. Her biggest contribution has come from three-point range, where she is converting 44.1% of her attempts and has made 63 threes.

That accuracy ranks among the best in the WNBA and has given Indiana another reliable perimeter threat when its starters need an offensive spark.

Cunningham’s value has been especially clear when the Fever have needed secondary scoring. Her best offensive performance of the season came against the Toronto Tempo on June 16, when she scored 24 points and made six of seven attempts from beyond the arc. The six made three-pointers matched her career high.

She delivered another major shooting performance in a 109-75 victory over the Las Vegas Aces, scoring 20 points while again making six three-pointers.

Cunningham has also produced in high-pressure situations. Earlier this season against Connecticut, she scored 11 points during the final two minutes, including three three-pointers, to help Indiana secure an 85-75 victory after the Sun threatened to make the finish uncomfortable.

Those performances have helped transform Cunningham from a useful rotation player into one of the Fever’s most dependable options outside their established core.

Indiana Fever enjoying a record-setting season

Cunningham’s resurgence has unfolded alongside one of the strongest seasons in franchise history. Indiana has won 25 games, setting a new franchise record while remaining firmly in the postseason race.

Her ability to stretch opposing defenses has played a meaningful role in that success, particularly when teams focus their attention on Clark, Mitchell and Boston.

Cunningham’s personality has also made her one of the Fever’s most visible players. Another playful pregame interaction went viral this week, adding to her growing profile in Indiana.

The more significant story, however, remains her production once the game begins. Friday’s matchup with Connecticut gives Cunningham another opportunity to strengthen her Sixth Player of the Year case against a team she already hurt with a crucial late-game scoring burst this season.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Indiana has already cast its unofficial vote. The question now is whether the rest of the WNBA will agree.
