Alan Ritchson and Catherine Ritchson are closing a chapter after two decades together. The Reacher star and his wife have announced their separation, ending 20 years of marriage.
The couple first met as teenagers and built a life together long before Ritchson’s breakout role as Jack Reacher on the Amazon Prime Video series. Their relationship spanned the actor’s career evolution from Smallville and Blue Mountain State to his current status as a leading action star.
Ritchson, 41, and Catherine, 40, share three sons together. The pair have frequently spoken about their partnership in interviews, with Ritchson crediting his wife as a stabilizing force throughout the ups and downs of Hollywood.
Neither party has released a detailed public statement regarding the specific reasons for the split. Representatives for the actor have not immediately responded to requests for comment.
The news comes as Ritchson continues filming the third season of Reacher, which remains one of Amazon’s most-watched original series. Production on the new season is reportedly underway.

The moment escalated when Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell walked out to let him sing directly to Abdul, with Ritchson dropping to one knee in front of her. After she hugged him following his performance, he joked that his fellow judges were ‘jealous’ when they tried to move her away. Jackson advised him to avoid using runs in his singing, but ultimately all three judges voted yes, sending him through to Hollywood.

Recalling the moment he was cut, Ritchson said he remained relatively unfazed, but noted the dramatic reaction of another eliminated contestant who ‘fell to the ground like a cockroach, it was like her life was over’. He explained:
“I was just observing it like ‘what is it like to want something that bad?’ I’d never felt that before.”
He continued:
“It made me want to move out to LA. I still didn’t know about acting at that point… I wanted to be around people who were like I’m going to die if I don’t get this thing.”
Ritchson has since stated that if he ever meets Paula Abdul again, he would ‘thank her for the crack in the door’—a testament to how a single audition reshaped his trajectory from model to leading man.
