  • Dolly Parton has died aged 80

Dolly Parton has died aged 80

The ‘Queen of Country’ Dolly Parton has sadly passed away at the age of 80.

The legendary performer’s tragic death was announced by her nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver, in a poignant post shared on social media Tuesday (25 August).

Famed for her incredible charm and extraordinary hits including ‘9 to 5’, ‘Jolene’ and ‘Here You Come Again’, tributes have been pouring in for the music star after the sad news broke.

Paying tribute to his beloved Aunt Dolly, Seaver explained that she had requested that he took on the task of announcing her death when the time eventually came.

“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” he said in the emotional footage.

“As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment, but haven’t truly felt it until now.

“It is an honour, an honour that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly.”

“Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens,” his statement said.

Seaver went on: “Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent.

“She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history.

“My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been your television, your record player, your CD, becoming an extended part of your family. Whether you liked it or not.

“Our family and the team she has entrusted with her legacy will work diligently to ensure her spirit will live with us forever.

“Dolly was a farmer just like her Daddy, he farmed the soil, she farmed song and happiness.

“Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton, because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.

“Rest in Peace Aunt Dolly. Aunt Granny. Gigi. May God bless Dolly Parton and may God bless you all. She will always love you.”

Dolly’s husband of more than six decades, Carl Dean, passed away at the age of 82 in March 2025.

In a statement shared on X, she said at the time: “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”

The late 10-time Grammy winner has been battling a number of unknown health issues in recent months, which forced her to cancel a public appearance at Dollywood in early August.

In a video message, she told those who had gathered to see her that medics forbid her from travelling to the attraction in Tennessee due to the ‘few little health issues’ she is currently dealing with.

However, she insisted that ‘all is going well on the medical end of thing’ and told her fans she ‘likes to keep them all in the loop about everything going on with her’.

While explaining the reason for her absence, Dolly noted that she was still in Nashville and was told she couldn’t make the journey to the city of Pigeon Forge, where Dollywood is located, by her doctor.

“I’m supposed to be there in person, like we planned,” Parton said in the video message, before revealing she was ‘dehydrated’.

“That’s why I’m here, because my little butterfly wings are getting kinda tired,” Dolly said in the clip.

“Now I’ve told you before, all my fans, that I have had a few little health issues. And sometimes I get a little dizzy, and I get dehydrated. And I’m dehydrated.

“And so my Nashville doctor clipped my wings, saying you ain’t travelling this week. So I guess if your doctor tells you you ain’t travelling this week, you ain’t travelling this week.”

Parton told fans she was ‘responding really well to meds and treatments’ in a social media post back in May.

“I’m improving every day,” she said. “Bad news is it’s gonna take me a little while before I’m up to stage performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit swimmy-headed, as my grandma used to say.

“Of course I can’t be dizzy, carrying around banjos, guitars and such on five-inch heels. And you know that I’m gonna be wearing them!

“I’m doing really well, and they assure me that everything I have is treatable, so I’m going with that, and I just want you to know I thank you for standing by me and that I will always love you.”

Among her famous songs was the hit I Will Always Love You, which she penned as a farewell to Porter Wagoner, who had helped her land a record deal.

Whitney Houston went on to record a cover for The Bodyguard film, which topped charts.

Her song Jolene, released in 1974, is considered one of country music’s greatest songs, with Beyonce covering it on her 2024 album Cowboy Carter.

A statement released by her team following her death said: “A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family.

“Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.”

“It’s crazy. Think about this, y’all, in the last few years I’ve lost 300lbs. That means I’ve lost an entire Donald Trump. And let’s be honest, based on his approval rating it seems like most of the country wants to do the same thing.”

The 41-year-old continued: “We should take it easy, we shouldn’t be making fun of the president’s weight because we know that he would never do that to other people.”

Right on cue, a video compilation Donald Trump’s previous comments on other people’s weight flashed up on the screen.

“And trust me, you’ll be happy to see your penis again.”

  • Woman who survived stage 4 cancer has ‘life changed’ after taking up Lewis Capaldi’s free therapy offer

Woman who survived stage 4 cancer has ‘life changed’ after taking up Lewis Capaldi’s free therapy offer

A woman who was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin Lymphoma at the age of 33 has told how therapy helped her and said she’s now ‘got a totally new outlook on life’.

Former teacher and head of science Emily Keyworth, from Newcastle, was initially told by doctors that her symptoms, a persistent cough, breathlessness and exhaustion, were caused by asthma in February 2025.

But her life was turned upside down when she was given a cancer diagnosis, and had to undergo six gruelling rounds of intensive chemotherapy, which she says ‘massively took its toll, both physically and mentally’.

She was able to ring the bell following her treatment, a practice done by cancer patients after their final round of therapies such as chemotherapy or radiation. But she was then told she needed further treatment.

Emily, now 35, told LADbible: “I got pulled into the doctor’s office and told that I needed radiotherapy, so I had to cancel all my holidays and do 15 rounds of that.

“I was in hospital every day. I was speaking to other cancer patients and they were telling me about their stories and it actually just took a toll on my mental health. I realised that I was spiralling and I didn’t feel good.

“I’m such a positive person, but I knew that my friends and family were upset about my diagnosis as well, and I found it hard to open up to them. So I knew that I needed to speak to someone separately.”

It was then that Emily came across Lewis Capaldi’s advert for 735,000 hours of free therapy with BetterHelp for fans, and she was matched with a therapist the very next day.

Emily took advantage of Lewis Capaldi’s offer (Courtney McLaven)

She said: “I think because the process was so easy and quick, it made it that there wasn’t an option for me to like back out. I was just going ahead with it and being brave.

“I was so scared to start and I realised I was really getting caught up in the fact that I’d lost my hair and I’d gained a lot of weight and I was really spiraling about the way that I looked. And my therapist actually said to me, ‘Emily, you’re a survivor. Don’t forget that’.

“I think there’s a real stigma around talking about going through therapy, as soon as you say that people think what’s wrong with you? What’s happened? What’s the trauma? And I think more people need to stand up and be like, yeah I’m in therapy.

“You would go to a dentist appointment and you would make time for your hair appointment or go to the gym, it should actually just be something like that.

“It made me realise I’m so lucky to be alive, I’ve got a totally new outlook on life now and I’m determined to thrive and live the best life I possibly can.”

Now in remission, therapy has given Emily the confidence to quit a job she says was no longer making her happy, move to London and she has had the ‘best summer’ celebrating surviving the disease.

She was invited to Lewis Capaldi’s show at Wythenshawe Park last weekend (22 August), where she got the opportunity to meet Lewis and personally thank him for everything, as well as enjoy the show.

Emily at the gig (Courtney McLaven)

“I’m really excited to meet Lewis. Seeing someone so famous open up like that is really inspiring,” Emily said.

“So I’d say to Lewis, thanks for being an inspiration and a national hero, and thank you for being the push that I actually needed to sign up to therapy.

“I’m sharing my story today to hopefully inspire somebody else to do the same.”

Capaldi offered 735,000 hours of free therapy to fans (Courtney McLaven)

Lewis Capaldi has been open about his mental health struggles over the years, taking a step back from music in 2023 after struggling with anxiety and worsening Tourette’s syndrome symptoms.

On therapy, Capaldi says: “It’s very easy when I start to feel good to almost assume I’m in the clear, but it’s almost like doing it [therapy] on the days where you feel good is more important than doing it on the days where you feel bad. It’s important, in those moments, to keep showing up and doing the work.”

Sana, a BetterHelp psychotherapist, has praised Capaldi for giving these free hours to those in need of their services.

She told LADbible: “It opens up the door for curiosity. It normalises it in a lot of ways, and I think it really shows in live action time how you transform pain into power and purpose.

“Watching a celebrity go through something huge so publicly, and then watching how they’ve recovered and made that part of their story. Why wouldn’t you be curious to try it?

“You can see just from those moments of him sharing what he was going through, his documentaries, how real he is, and people being like, I relate to that. And taking action because that’s exactly what he did.”

Sana encourages anyone who feels scared to try therapy to be brave, adding: “Scary is normal. That’s how you build courage, it should be scary. Anything worth doing is going to be hard, but just bite the bullet.”

  • Daniel Diemer and Shaheen Jafargholi Join ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 as New Lead Couple

Daniel Diemer and Shaheen Jafargholi Join ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 as New Lead Couple

The gay hockey drama Heated Rivalry is expanding its ensemble for season two with the addition of Daniel Diemer and Shaheen Jafargholi, who will portray Ryan Price and Fabian Salah respectively. The casting was confirmed by both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter on August 25, 2026, signaling a significant new storyline for the series. Read also: Harry and Meghan UK Return: Meghan Eyes Acting Comeback. Read also: Liza Soberano Joins Golden Globes Impact Prize Jury at Venice Film Festival.

Ryan and Fabian are the central couple in Rachel Reid's novel "Tough Guy," the third installment of the Game Changers book series that inspired the show. While season two is primarily based on the sixth book, "The Long Game," the inclusion of these characters suggests the series is weaving together multiple narrative threads from Reid's interconnected hockey universe. In the books, Ryan is a journeyman NHL player grappling with anxiety and body image, while Fabian is an openly gay Lebanese-Canadian indie musician.

Diemer gained recognition for his role as Paul in Netflix's "The Half of It" and as Tyson in Disney+'s "Percy Jackson and the Olympians." Jafargholi has appeared in projects such as "War," "The Agency," and the acclaimed series "Lost Boys and Fairies." Their casting was praised by executive producers Jacob Tierney and Brendan Brady, who highlighted the actors' ability to bring emotional honesty to complex characters.

This announcement follows a wave of recent additions to season two, including Justice Smith, Charlie Gillespie, Emily Hampshire, Edvin Ryding, Robert Naylor, Sabrina Jalees, and Priyanka. Hampshire and Priyanka will play Fabian's best friends Vanessa and Tarek, also drawn from "Tough Guy." The expanding cast reflects the show's ambition to broaden its scope beyond the central rivalry of Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) that drove the first season.

Heated Rivalry has been noted for its authentic portrayal of queer relationships within the hyper-masculine world of professional hockey. The introduction of Ryan and Fabian—a pairing that navigates mental health struggles and cultural identity—adds further depth to that representation. The series, produced by Accent Aigu Entertainment in association with Bell Media for Crave and HBO Max, continues to adapt Reid's popular novels, which have cultivated a dedicated readership for their nuanced LGBTQ+ sports romances.

With production likely underway, fans of both the books and the series can anticipate a season that interweaves multiple love stories across different teams and cities. The casting of Diemer and Jafargholi suggests a commitment to finding performers who can embody the emotional complexity that has become the show's hallmark.

Savannah Guthrie Navigates Viral Fashion Moment Amid Ongoing Family Crisis Over Missing Mother

Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC's Today show, finds herself at the center of two vastly different trending narratives this week — one celebrating a relatable style choice, the other tracking a harrowing personal ordeal that has stretched across nearly seven months. Read also: Savannah Guthrie's Viral Dress Moment Amid Mother's Disap…. Read also: Family Demands Justice 7 Months After Nurse Shot by Feder….

On August 20, Guthrie appeared on the morning broadcast in a blue plaid sleeveless midi dress with subtle ruching at the bodice, paired with strappy sandals and delicate gold jewelry. The look quickly drew attention for its polished yet accessible aesthetic, with fashion editors noting the dress's waist-defining silhouette and timeless appeal. A nearly identical alternative from Allegra K, retailing for approximately $36 on Amazon, was identified shortly after, offering viewers a budget-friendly way to replicate the ensemble. The dress, available in multiple patterns including houndstooth and navy plaid, has been praised by shoppers for its wrinkle-resistant fabric and flattering fit across a range of sizes.

At the same time, a far more serious story continues to unfold off-camera. Guthrie's 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, was abducted from her Arizona home nearly seven months ago and remains missing. Recent developments emerged when human remains were discovered roughly 15 miles from the family residence. However, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has stated there is currently no indication linking the remains to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. The county's chief medical examiner noted that up to 150 sets of remains are recovered in the region annually, with harsh desert conditions significantly complicating identification efforts. Previous DNA testing on hair recovered from the original crime scene yielded no leads without a suspect's genetic profile for comparison. Guthrie has previously shared on social media that her family endures "agony and despair" daily as the search continues.

The juxtaposition highlights the unusual duality of morning television anchors, who must project warmth and normalcy on air while navigating profound personal crises behind the scenes. Guthrie has maintained her on-air presence throughout the ordeal, a testament to the professional demands of live broadcast journalism. Her fashion moment, while lighthearted, also underscores the public's enduring fascination with accessible celebrity style — particularly when the figure in question is navigating extraordinary circumstances with visible composure.

As the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance proceeds, authorities emphasize that definitive conclusions will require thorough physical and DNA analysis of the recovered remains. For now, the Today anchor continues to balance a very public role with a deeply private vigil, embodying a resilience that resonates far beyond any wardrobe choice.

Liza Soberano Joins Golden Globes Impact Prize Jury at Venice Film Festival

Filipino-American actress and advocate Liza Soberano has been appointed to the jury for the Golden Globes Impact Prize for Documentary, an award presented by the Artemis Rising Foundation during the Venice Film Festival. The prize, established through a partnership between the Golden Globes and Artemis Rising with support from Think-Film Impact Production, recognizes a documentary feature in the festival's official selection that demonstrates exceptional power in illuminating pressing social issues through compelling storytelling. Soberano's inclusion marks a notable expansion of the jury's global perspective, reflecting her growing influence beyond entertainment into humanitarian and advocacy work. The announcement comes as the Venice Film Festival prepares to showcase a slate of socially engaged documentaries, including the highly anticipated 'NAZA' from the directors of the Oscar-nominated 'No Other Land,' which has already been acquired by MK2 Films ahead of its premiere. Soberano joins a panel tasked with evaluating films that combine artistic merit with tangible real-world impact — a criterion that aligns with her own public advocacy for mental health awareness, education, and youth empowerment in the Philippines and internationally. Her transition from a leading star in Philippine television and film to a recognized voice on global platforms underscores a broader trend of Southeast Asian talent gaining institutional recognition in major international film bodies.

This appointment also highlights the evolving role of the Golden Globes in championing impact-driven cinema, particularly through collaborations with organizations like Artemis Rising, founded by philanthropist Geralyn Dreyfous to support films that drive social change. Past recipients and jury members have included filmmakers and activists working at the intersection of art and advocacy, positioning the prize as a distinctive fixture in the festival circuit. Soberano's participation signals a continued effort to diversify the voices shaping which stories are amplified on the world stage, especially those from underrepresented regions and communities.

  • Harry and Meghan UK Return: Meghan Eyes Acting Comeback

Harry and Meghan UK Return: Meghan Eyes Acting Comeback

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are preparing to relocate from California to the United Kingdom with their two children, marking a significant shift in their post-royal lives. According to senior royal correspondents, the move is expected to be completed within days, ending nearly five years of transatlantic commuting and speculation about their long-term base. Read also: Prince Harry's brutal response to watching Meghan Markle’s Fits intercourse scenes.

For Meghan, a return to professional acting appears to be a central pillar of the couple's new chapter. Industry insiders report that early-stage discussions are underway for a potential role in the third season of Netflix's "The Gentlemen," the Guy Ritchie-created series about an aristocrat-turned-drug lord filmed largely in the Cotswolds. While Netflix has not confirmed casting decisions, the prospect of a former working royal with a television background joining a British-produced hit aligns with the streaming platform's strategy of blending prestige talent with built-in audience curiosity. Meghan herself acknowledged the pull of set life during a June 2025 podcast appearance with entrepreneur Emma Grede, saying she realized how much she missed her crew while filming her lifestyle series "With Love, Meghan."

Entertainment journalists caution that negotiations remain fluid. Variety's chief correspondent notes that scheduling logistics, role size, shooting days, and compensation are all active discussion points, and that both sides often use media speculation as leverage. This dynamic mirrors similar high-profile casting negotiations where public buzz accelerates private dealmaking.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry's focus will center on the charitable patronages and veteran-support initiatives he has maintained from abroad. His final U.S. engagements included meetings with military families in Washington, D.C., and a visit to the nation's primary military medical center, underscoring a commitment that predates his marriage and has survived geographic distance. Observers note that grounding his UK presence in established philanthropy offers continuity and credibility as the couple navigates a more public-facing existence.

The relocation also reflects practical pressures: maintaining dual residences, private security, international travel, and elite schooling for two children carries a price tag that demands reliable, high-yield income streams. A steady acting role for Meghan, combined with the couple's existing Netflix and Spotify deals, could provide the financial architecture needed to sustain their lifestyle without relying on royal funds. Historically, other senior royals who stepped back from official duties — such as the Duke of Windsor or, more recently, Prince Andrew — faced scrutiny over income sources; the Sussexes' pursuit of commercial entertainment work represents a distinct, modern approach to post-royal relevance.

As the move unfolds, the Cotswolds — already a magnet for celebrity residents — may become the backdrop for a new phase of public fascination, blending aristocratic scenery, streaming-era celebrity, and the enduring global appetite for the Sussex narrative.
