Stephen Curry Arrived Alone at the Warriors and Built His Most Important Team Over 17 Seasons While Becoming an NBA Legend

Stephen Curry was 21 when the Golden State Warriors selected him with the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. He arrived without an NBA championship, an MVP award or any idea that the franchise taking a chance on him would eventually become nearly inseparable from his name. He was not married yet, either.

Seventeen seasons later, Curry has led Golden State to four NBA championships, won two MVP awards and become the greatest three-point shooter in league history. The slender guard from Davidson became the face of a dynasty and one of the world’s most recognizable athletes. Now, at 38, the Warriors can place another extraordinary figure in front of him: a two-year contract extension worth as much as $136.7 million.

Stephen Curry built a basketball dynasty and a family

That contract figure tells only half the story of what Curry has built during his 17 seasons with Golden State.

In 2011, two years after the Warriors drafted him, Curry married Ayesha, whom he had first met as a teenager. A year later, Riley was born. Curry was still three years away from winning his first NBA championship, and the little girl who would eventually steal the spotlight at his press conferences arrived before the basketball world fully understood what her father was about to become.

Curry’s family grew alongside his basketball career. Ryan was born in July 2015, just weeks after Curry won his first NBA championship. Canon arrived in 2018, in the middle of the Warriors dynasty, after Golden State had won its third title in four seasons. In May 2024, Caius was born. By then, Curry had four rings, two MVP awards, a Finals MVP and virtually nothing left to prove on the court.

Golden State made Curry the face of its franchise. At home, he is simply one of six.

Riley is now 14, Ryan is 11, Canon is 8 and Caius, the only child too young to remember the beginning of his father’s extraordinary run, is 2. Stephen and Ayesha celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary this summer.

Those ages show how much of life has unfolded while Curry was making basketball history.

The 21-year-old who arrived in Golden State in 2009 is now a husband and father of four. He has watched his oldest daughter grow from a child sitting on his lap at press conferences into a teenager. His children have seen him win championships, break records, deal with injuries, return home from road trips and get up to do it all again.

Curry does not describe that part of his life as secondary to basketball. Earlier this year, he called raising four children with Ayesha “beautiful chaos.” Watching four different personalities develop, he said, has been the “best gift and responsibility” of their lives.

Warriors extension could cover Curry’s final NBA seasons

The Warriors can offer Curry $136.7 million and the chance to play through age 40. For Golden State, the decision could shape the final seasons of the greatest player in franchise history. For Curry, those years will also unfold as Riley becomes a young woman, Ryan moves further into her teenage years, Canon continues to grow up and Caius begins forming the childhood memories he may one day have of his father still playing in the NBA.

That does not mean Curry is ready to retire. Basketball remains part of his identity, and he has said the court is still his happy place. But at 38, time looks different than it did at 21.

When Curry arrived in 2009, Golden State gave him a jersey and a place to begin his NBA career. Over the next 17 seasons, he helped transform the team into a dynasty.

Away from the arena, he and Ayesha were building another one.

Now, as one team decides how much it is willing to invest in Stephen Curry for the next two years, the other is already waiting for him at home.

  • Jerry Jones Sends Dak Prescott a Clear Message About His Backup After Cowboys Preseason Games

Jerry Jones Sends Dak Prescott a Clear Message About His Backup After Cowboys Preseason Games

Since 2010, every NFC team except the Dallas Cowboys has appeared in the NFC Championship Game at least once. Dallas, the world’s most valuable sports franchise, has not reached the doorstep of the Super Bowl since winning its last championship during the 1995 season.

As the Cowboys confront that frustrating drought, which includes a recent two-year playoff absence, quarterback Dak Prescott has declared that the current season is strictly “Super Bowl or bust.” Prescott noted that outside criticism will always follow the franchise, making a trip to the Super Bowl the clearest way to silence the doubters.

Dallas Cowboys Focus on Defense and Dak Prescott’s Legacy

Dallas’ biggest weakness in recent seasons has been its defense. The unit ranked last in franchise history last year for points allowed per drive, prompting the front office to hire defensive coordinator Christian Parker and use seven draft selections on defensive talent.

On offense, the Cowboys remain anchored by Prescott, but the quarterback’s biggest challenge arrives in January. His 2-5 postseason record contrasts sharply with his regular-season production.

Following the 2026 season, Prescott could further cement his legacy as arguably the greatest regular-season quarterback in Cowboys history. He is already the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards with 35,989. Prescott also trails Tony Romo by only eight touchdown passes, with Romo holding a 248-243 advantage, while Prescott’s 83 victories leave him 11 wins behind the franchise record of 94 shared by Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach.

Jerry Jones Hints Cowboys Could Keep Sam Howell and Joe Milton

With Prescott firmly established as the starter for his 11th professional season, one of Dallas’ most difficult 53-man roster decisions concerns the backup quarterback competition between Sam Howell and Joe Milton.

Because injuries can disrupt a season without warning, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered insight into the team’s thinking after the preseason finale, hinting to ESPN that Dallas may avoid choosing between the two quarterbacks.

“That’s one that we may just split the difference and have two backup quarterbacks here,” Jones remarked.

Howell held a narrow advantage during the early training camp workouts under head coach Brian Schottenheimer, but both quarterbacks delivered strong summer performances. Their close competition prompted Schottenheimer to describe the battle as completely “neck and neck”.

The Cowboys therefore appear positioned to keep both quarterbacks on the active roster, providing additional emergency depth behind Prescott as they pursue a return to the playoffs and their first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1995.

  • Tottenham 0-2 Newcastle: Roberto De Zerbi Remains Calm as Old Spurs Failings Resurface

Tottenham 0-2 Newcastle: Roberto De Zerbi Remains Calm as Old Spurs Failings Resurface

Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi said he was “not angry” and there was “no panic” after a second defeat in two Premier League matches left Spurs bottom of the table. However, the 2-0 loss to Newcastle continued a deeply familiar pattern for the club’s supporters.

Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored during a 10-minute spell in the second half to secure Newcastle’s victory, while thousands of Tottenham fans left the stadium before the final whistle.

The frustration is understandable. Tottenham have now recorded only three home league wins in their past 23 matches at their stadium.

    Tottenham’s difficult Premier League start

Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League in 2024-25 and again in 2025-26, avoiding relegation only on the final day. This season was expected to mark a change in fortunes.

After spending more than £300m during the summer, Tottenham supporters were hoping for a challenge to return to European competition. The club won the Europa League two seasons ago and reached the Champions League last 16 in March.

Instead, Tottenham have played two Premier League matches, lost both, scored no goals and sit 20th out of 20 teams.

“We can improve in the defensive phases but today was an unfair result,” said De Zerbi.

“Disappointed for the result because until the first goal we conceded, we played better than Newcastle.”

“We are disappointed for the result and [for] our fans. We are working to be a great team. When we become a team, we can change the story of the last two seasons for Tottenham.”

Shaquille O’Neal’s Latest Skill: NBA Legend Learns Spanish Faster Than Expected

Shaquille O’Neal has built a career on surprising people. The four-time NBA champion dominated opposing centers during his Hall of Fame basketball career before successfully moving into broadcasting, business, entertainment, music and philanthropy.

Few athletes have remained as visible and influential after retirement as the larger-than-life superstar known simply as “Shaq.” Now, according to Colombian professional basketball player Michael Martinez, O’Neal may be adding another skill to his long list of accomplishments: speaking Spanish.

Shaquille O’Neal impresses Colombian College Hooper with his Spanish

A meeting between two basketball worlds

Martinez plays professionally for Toros del Valle in Colombia and has built a growing social media following under the name Colombian College Hooper. He documents his basketball journey and shares the realities of playing professionally overseas with fans around the world.

Through social media, Martinez has offered a behind-the-scenes look at life as an international player while inspiring young athletes who hope to pursue basketball outside the traditional pathways in the United States.

His recent interaction with O’Neal gave followers a glimpse into another side of the NBA icon. According to Martinez, one of the most surprising parts of their time together was how quickly O’Neal appeared to pick up Spanish words and phrases.

O’Neal has long been known for more than basketball. Throughout his career, he has shown an unusual curiosity and willingness to pursue new interests, from becoming a recording artist and earning advanced academic degrees to launching business ventures and working as a television analyst.

    Shaq’s reputation for reinvention

O’Neal’s post-playing career has been defined by versatility. While many former athletes remain closely tied to their sport, he has continually expanded his horizons. His roles have included television personality, entrepreneur, DJ, investor, law enforcement supporter and motivational speaker, among many others.

That willingness to embrace new challenges has helped O’Neal remain one of the most recognizable sports figures in the world. Becoming conversational, or even fluent, in Spanish could further strengthen his ability to connect with fans internationally.

Basketball’s popularity continues to grow throughout Latin America, where O’Neal already has a substantial following. Developing Spanish-language skills could give the NBA legend even more opportunities to engage with audiences across the region.

  • Bill Belichick Steps Up in Dublin as UNC Activates Emergency Plan Against TCU

Bill Belichick Steps Up in Dublin as UNC Activates Emergency Plan Against TCU

Bill Belichick Takes Over UNC Defensive Play-Calling Against TCU

Bill Belichick assumed an unexpected responsibility when North Carolina opened its 2026 season against TCU in Dublin. With defensive coordinator Steve Belichick still away from the program on medical leave, the veteran head coach called the Tar Heels’ defensive plays himself.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the development shortly before kickoff. The move changes what North Carolina had previously described as a collective approach to managing Steve Belichick’s absence.

Steve Belichick did not travel with the team to Ireland, leaving his father to take charge of a role familiar to one of football’s most accomplished defensive minds. Steve was placed on medical leave on Aug. 6, and Bill Belichick declined to discuss the circumstances or provide a potential return date.

At the time, the coach said the program hoped to have his son back as soon as possible. Weeks later, there is still no public timetable, and North Carolina has now played its first game without its defensive coordinator.

TCU Presents Immediate Test for North Carolina Defense

The timing is especially significant because TCU handed Belichick a difficult introduction to college football last season. The Horned Frogs overcame an early deficit to defeat North Carolina 48-14.

TCU produced 542 yards of offense, ran for 258 yards and took full advantage of North Carolina turnovers. That result remains a clear measuring stick for a Tar Heels team trying to show that last year’s 4-8 campaign was an aberration rather than the start of a larger decline.

Belichick was therefore forced to put his defensive expertise directly to work against a TCU offense that has also undergone changes. Gordon Sammis is taking over as offensive coordinator, while Jaden Craig is expected to lead the Horned Frogs at quarterback.

Those changes create uncertainty, but TCU’s offensive potential still represents a major challenge for North Carolina.

Bill Belichick Faces Pressure on Multiple Fronts

The defensive situation is only one part of North Carolina’s complicated offseason. General manager Michael Lombardi has also been on leave, while Belichick enters his second season under considerable scrutiny after an underwhelming debut.

The Tar Heels averaged just 19.2 points per game in 2025, ranking near the bottom nationally. That offensive ineffectiveness contributed to a disappointing 4-8 record and increased the pressure on the program to demonstrate immediate progress.

North Carolina has tried to address its quarterback situation by adding Wisconsin transfer Billy Edwards Jr. The signal-caller is expected to provide a spark after the Tar Heels struggled to generate consistent offense last season.

His ability to protect the football and create scoring opportunities could be crucial as North Carolina attempts to reverse its fortunes.

The defense must also overcome the loss of several important contributors, making Steve Belichick’s absence even more consequential. Bill Belichick has less margin for error as he works to establish a more reliable unit.

After last year’s 48-14 defeat, TCU provides a particularly demanding test. With his son unavailable and expectations already rising, Bill Belichick has been forced to take command at a critical moment for the North Carolina program.
