Patrick Mahomes Has Recovered From His Knee Injury, but Another Pain Could Reshape His Super Bowl Story

Patrick Mahomes may have moved past the knee issue that disrupted part of his season, but the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback says the emotional pain of losing a Super Bowl continues to drive him.

The three-time Super Bowl champion has spoken openly about how deeply championship defeats remain with him. Rather than viewing those losses as moments he can simply move beyond, Mahomes sees them as defining parts of his career.

Mahomes has already built one of the most successful résumés of any quarterback of his generation. However, his defeats on football’s biggest stage continue to shape his approach to the game.

“Anytime you lose a Super Bowl, it’s the worst thing in the world,” Mahomes said. “It will stick with you the rest of your career.”

He also made clear that the pain of losing does not fade simply because he has experienced championship success.

“You remember the wins, but the losses, those are the ones that stick with you,” Mahomes said.

That mindset could be especially important for a Chiefs team trying to respond after falling short of another title. Mahomes has repeatedly discussed using disappointment as motivation, and his latest comments indicate that the scars from previous Super Bowl defeats remain central to that process.

Chiefs quarterback focused on another title run

Physically, Mahomes appears to have moved beyond concerns about his knee and is focused on leading Kansas City through another season. Mentally, the losses continue to give him an additional source of motivation.

“Every year is a new challenge,” Mahomes said. “You have to find a way to get better and come back stronger.”

That approach has helped define a career filled with postseason success, but Mahomes is clearly not satisfied. He understands that every failed championship opportunity becomes part of his legacy alongside the victories.

For Kansas City, his lingering frustration could make him an even more dangerous opponent for the rest of the NFL. Mahomes may no longer be focused on the knee issue that once limited him, but he says the emotional pain of losing a Super Bowl will never completely disappear.

If that memory pushes him toward another championship, it could reshape the story of his career once again.

Ralf Schumacher Requires Surgery After Jet Ski Crash

Ralf Schumacher will undergo shoulder surgery after crashing during Stefan Raab’s celebrity jet ski world championship in Duisburg on Saturday.

The former Formula 1 driver was injured during the team competition after partnering with television entertainer Stefan Raab. Schumacher was driving the jet ski, with Raab seated behind him, when the pair crashed at a buoy.

Both men initially climbed back onto the jet ski, but Schumacher accelerated before Raab had fully regained his position. The celebrity duo fell into the water for a second time, initially prompting laughter from the crowd.

Schumacher’s condition appeared more serious when he tried to climb back onto the jet ski.

“My shoulder was dislocated when I tried to turn the jet ski around so quickly,” Schumacher explained during the live broadcast on RTL+.

Raab said he did not immediately realise how serious the injury was.

“At first I thought nothing had happened, and then the jet ski kept going,” he said. “I was like, ‘Ralf, what’s wrong?’ He said he’d dislocated his shoulder. Then I quickly started waving for help.”

The accident ended the Schumacher-Raab team’s involvement in the competition. Schumacher had earlier reached the grand final of the individual Speed Duel, where he was beaten by German circus performer and Ninja Warrior athlete Rene Casselly.

Although the current Sky pundit was competing outside his usual environment, his speed remained evident. He ultimately missed out on the event’s golden inflatable ring but won the sympathy of the crowd.

“It almost happened the first time as well,” Schumacher said. “I hope nothing is broken. Thank God. A huge thank you to the team who got me out of there so quickly. And thanks to the doctor who put my shoulder back in place.

“It’s not exactly pleasant, I have to admit. But at the moment I’m OK.”

Schumacher posted a video on Instagram on Sunday morning, again thanking the medical team and the hospital in Duisburg.

“team on site who put my shoulder back in and pulled me out of the water. It all happened incredibly quickly, so thank you very much. And a huge thank you to BG Klinikum Duisburg as well.”

Schumacher underwent an X-ray late on Saturday evening and an MRI scan on Sunday morning. The tests showed that the shoulder dislocation had also caused a bone fracture.

“It was only a shoulder dislocation, or a dislocated shoulder, but unfortunately a piece of bone broke off as well,” Schumacher said.

The six-time grand prix winner will therefore require “a small operation”. Despite the injury, he expects to work as a Sky Germany pundit at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

“The operation will be over quickly and then I should be back in Monza as well,” he said. “I only have to hold my microphone with my left hand!”

Schumacher said he had no regrets about taking part in the celebrity jet ski event.

“It was an amazing event and a lot of fun. […] If they do it again, I’ll definitely be there. It was a great event. Sorry we couldn’t win the team competition like that. But next time we’ll definitely be better.”

Schumacher joked that he still could not understand how the accident had caused such a serious injury.

“Pulling it out of the water, turning the jet ski around and dislocating your shoulder in the process – you’ve got to manage that first,” he joked. “But maybe I’m simply too old for this crap.”

He also defended the event organisers.

“In any case, the organiser is absolutely not at fault.”

Roger Federer Says Hall of Fame Induction Is ‘One of the Greatest Honours of My Life’

Roger Federer has been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, calling the achievement “one of the greatest honours” of his life.

The 20-time Grand Slam singles champion, who retired from professional tennis in 2022, became tearful during the ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island. Federer reflected on his career in front of tennis legends including Billie Jean King and John McEnroe.

Federer made his main tour debut in 1998 at the age of 16. He went on to win a record eight men’s Wimbledon singles titles, six Australian Open crowns, five US Opens and one French Open.

“This is one of the greatest honours of my life,” Federer, 45, said.

“They call this the Hall of Fame, but fame was never the goal. My goal was to spend my life doing something I love, with people who love it as much as I do.”

Only Spain’s Rafael Nadal, with 22 major titles, and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, with 24, have won more men’s Grand Slam singles titles than Federer.

Federer won his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2003 and spent 310 weeks as world number one, a record until Djokovic surpassed it. He also won Olympic doubles gold for Switzerland with Stan Wawrinka at Beijing 2008 and singles silver at London 2012.

In 2014, Federer was part of the Swiss team that won the Davis Cup for the first time.

Federer reflects on the numbers behind his career

Federer began his tennis journey as a 13-year-old ball boy at an ATP tournament in Basel. During his Hall of Fame speech, he highlighted some of the lesser-known statistics from his career.

“I’m talking about the numbers that really paint a picture. Between 1998 and when I first went on the ATP Tour, and when I retired in 2022, I wore more than 5,000 headbands,” said Federer.

“That’s more than [Bjorn] Borg and [John] McEnroe combined.”

“And if you think that’s impressive, I wore probably over 7,000 pairs of socks. That’s probably twice as many as most of my opponents, because I doubled them up.”

“But really, there’s no way to measure what it means to be here. It’s hard to put it into words.”

Federer wiped away tears as he thanked his wife, Mirka, his tennis idol Stefan Edberg and “every ball kid who ever stood through” his matches.

He also said he was “incredibly lucky” to have played alongside several generations of tennis stars, including Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Roddick, Nadal and Djokovic.

“I need tissues and sunglasses and everything to protect me right now. This is such a mess,” Federer joked.

“As you can tell, I’m still writing my love letter to tennis. My time as a player is done, but tennis will always stand at the intersection of everything I care most about: my family, our friendships, the past 40 years, the future we’re building.”

“Tennis for me is responsible for it all.”

Lewis Hamilton “Didn’t Help Himself” With Ferrari Radio Messages, Says Guenther Steiner

Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner believes Lewis Hamilton made Ferrari’s Dutch Grand Prix tensions worse with his frustrated team radio messages.

The seven-time world champion repeatedly questioned Ferrari’s strategy during the race at Zandvoort, urging the Maranello team to let him pass team-mate Charles Leclerc, who was running a different strategy. When Ferrari eventually brought Leclerc into the pits, Hamilton complained that the team had lost too much time.

Hamilton later sarcastically asked whether Ferrari was using him as a “guinea pig” after leaving him on old hard tyres.

Steiner compares Ferrari and Mercedes strategy planning

Speaking on The Red Flags Podcast, Steiner compared Ferrari’s handling of team orders with Mercedes’ preparation and said Ferrari had not organised the situation as effectively.

“Obviously, it was not as well organised as the silver people. They were well organised,” Steiner said during an appearance on The Red Flags Podcast, comparing Mercedes and Ferrari.

“They had the discussion before and obviously that discussion was not as heated as that one after for Ferrari because when you go into the drivers before the race and tell them what is what.”

Steiner said Ferrari’s pre-race discussions should have been more detailed.

“I think that one was not done in the detail Mercedes stated, and that caused what happened.”

Hamilton criticised for Ferrari team radio messages

Although Steiner argued that Ferrari could have prepared its drivers more thoroughly for possible team-order scenarios, he also said Hamilton’s criticism of the team was counterproductive.

“I don’t think Lewis helped himself being so critical because when you’re sitting on the pitwall and you hear that, it’s like, ‘Oh this guy’s actually trying to vouch too much for himself. He doesn’t see the team anymore here.’

“You could say, ‘Hey, would it not be better if he lets me pass, I’m faster,’ instead of saying, ‘Oh you made me lose time here.’”

Hamilton later addressed his Dutch Grand Prix team radio comments on social media, accepting responsibility for his frustrated reaction.

“I’ve listened back to some of my radio and TV comments. In the heat of the moment, frustration can come out, especially when you care as deeply as I do,” he posted on Instagram.

“But that wasn’t the best version of me. I take responsibility for that, and I’ll be better. That passion comes from believing in this team, the people in it, and what we’re building together. The direction is clear. The belief is there. And the fight is absolutely still on.”

Tottenham Transfer News: Spurs Advance Move for Iliman Ndiaye as Richarlison Prepares to Rejoin Everton

Richarlison is one of three Tottenham players Roberto De Zerbi says have asked to leave the club. Kevin Danso and Pape Matar Sarr have also been linked with moves away from Spurs, and none of the three was included in De Zerbi’s match squad for Tottenham’s 2-0 home defeat by Newcastle on Saturday.

Asked about the players’ situations after the match, De Zerbi said:

“Richarlison, I don’t know. He said too many times he wants to leave.”

Danso came to me two days ago and he said wants to leave and Pape Sarr the same, but he suffered a small injury, but he is almost ready to train.”

“I have very good relationships but if they want to leave, they have to bring the solution, the economic solution, to the club, and they can go.”

Tottenham have spent more than £300m this summer in an attempt to restore their competitiveness after finishing 17th in the Premier League in each of the past two seasons. However, Spurs are bottom of the table after losing their opening two matches against Brentford and Newcastle without scoring.

Richarlison was Tottenham’s leading scorer last season with 11 goals and played a key role in their fight to avoid relegation, which was secured on the final day of the campaign.

Earlier in August, De Zerbi said the Brazil international’s future was uncertain, adding that it’s not easy to find another striker like Richarlison.

Manchester City striker Omar Marmoush joined Tottenham on loan last week and replaced Richarlison in De Zerbi’s starting XI against Newcastle.

Danso could face limited first-team opportunities this season following the arrivals of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, who will compete for places in central defence. Micky van de Ven’s position was further strengthened when he signed a new contract and was appointed captain.

Sunderland made an offer to sign Danso, who has 36 caps for Austria, on a season-long loan, but Tottenham rejected the proposal.

Sarr’s midfield opportunities have also been affected by the early-window arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. Tottenham began a statement summer transfer window by breaking their club-record fee twice in one week.

The 23-year-old Senegal international has attracted interest from several clubs, including teams in the Premier League and Turkish side Besiktas. Juventus are understood to be confident of winning the race to sign him on loan with a conditional obligation to buy.

Bradley Cooper and a major film crew spent five days filming in Monaco for Warner Bros.’ upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, with production taking place from 24 to 28 August.

1962 Monaco Grand Prix recreated for Ocean’s Eleven prequel

Parts of Monaco were transformed to recreate the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix, including the famous street circuit and replica vintage Formula 1 cars. Filming took place at several of the principality’s most recognisable locations, including Port Hercule, Avenue Princesse Grace, Place du Casino, Portier and Larvotto.

The untitled film is being shot under the working title Sandcastles. Cooper, a three-time Grammy Award winner known for A Star Is Born, Silver Linings Playbook and The Hangover, is directing, writing and starring in the project.

Cooper and Margot Robbie play the parents of Danny Ocean, the character famously portrayed by George Clooney in the Ocean’s franchise. The cast also includes Wagner Moura, Monica Barbaro, Josh Gad, Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Lauren Ridloff, Jack Holden and Omar Sy.

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents,” Robbie teased during a Warner Bros. preview reel at CinemaCon.

“You’ll see them in their prime, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”

Film revisits historic Monaco Grand Prix

The 1962 Monaco Grand Prix was won by Cooper driver Bruce McLaren. Lotus driver Jim Clark started from pole position but retired on lap 55 because of a clutch problem. Ferrari drivers Phil Hill and Lorenzo Bandini completed the podium.

Additional filming locations have included Paris and Nice. The film is scheduled to be released on 25 June 2027.
