    Jonathan Agnew: Ollie Robinson Credits Australia for Tactic Behind His Success

    England’s decision to bring the wicketkeeper up to the stumps has helped unlock Ollie Robinson’s strengths as a Test bowler, following Australia’s effective use of the tactic during the Ashes.

    Alex Carey used the approach successfully, and England have now adopted it with Robinson. With Jamie Smith standing up to the stumps, opposing batters cannot advance down the pitch as freely because of the increased risk of being stumped.

    That allows Robinson to bowl a yard fuller, giving his deliveries more time to swing through the air. It also increases the chance of the ball hitting the stumps rather than bouncing over them from a shorter length.

    The tactic depends on having a reliable wicketkeeper, and Jamie Smith deserves significant credit. After struggling badly with his glovework during the Ashes, Smith has clearly improved.

    Wicketkeeping coach Sarah Taylor has been working intensively with him before play, using a drill in which she strikes tennis balls towards him with a racket. The ball skids through while a batter stands in front, edging, missing or hitting it, forcing Smith to stay low and take the chances. The results speak for themselves.

    Can Robinson succeed in South Africa?

    The next challenge for Robinson is to reproduce this success on harder, flatter pitches and in hot conditions that will test his fitness. England will face those challenges during their three-Test series in South Africa this winter.

    Robinson has often been left out of England Test teams on more batter-friendly pitches, but it is time for England to select him in those conditions. He has earned that opportunity.

    England are also working behind the scenes to help Robinson maintain his pace at around 82mph, rather than starting at that speed before dropping to 77 or 78mph.

    If he can sustain that pace, the additional bounce it generates should help offset any loss of movement.

    The event took place on August 27 during the Indianapolis Indians’ game against the Columbus Clippers. The evening was dedicated to Hull, giving the Indiana Fever guard an opportunity to connect with fans away from the basketball court.

    Hull was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch. From the mound, she delivered the ball toward home plate in a role far removed from her usual position on the basketball court. The Indiana Fever’s official account also shared photos of her appearance on social media.

    Hull returns to WNBA action

    Indiana Fever hosted the Connecticut Sun on Friday, August 28, one day after Hull’s appearance at the ballpark. Before the game, Hull drew attention with her fashion choice, arriving in a sparkling pink dress.

    Indiana went on to secure a 111-91 victory. Hull contributed 7 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals in 24 minutes, helping the Fever produce an all-around performance.

    Indiana Fever prepare for WNBA break

    The win over Connecticut was especially important because it marked Indiana’s final game before the WNBA break, which was scheduled to accommodate the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

    The pause will give Hull and the rest of the Fever several days away from competition. Indiana’s next game is scheduled for September 18, when the team visits the Toronto Tempo at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Canada.

    Before tipoff, the Atlanta Dream gave fans a glimpse of Reese’s look for the day. She wore a blue dress with purple details, carried a green handbag and styled her hair in a ponytail.

    The pregame post showed what Reese wore before heading to Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia, where she was preparing for another regular-season matchup against the Minnesota Lynx.

    Angel Reese sets WNBA double-double record

    Reese played 33 minutes and finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. She shot 5 of 9 from the field and made 5 of 8 free-throw attempts as the Atlanta Dream secured an 89-81 victory.

    Her 11 rebounds also gave her the 29th double-double of the season, breaking the WNBA record for the most double-doubles in a regular season. Alyssa Thomas previously held the record after recording 28 double-doubles in 2023.

    Angel Reese returns to TikTok after making history

    After the game, Reese returned to TikTok with a series of new videos. Her posts drew attention from fans who had noticed that she had not been sharing this type of content as frequently.

    In one video, Reese gave followers another close look at her game-day outfit, showing the blue-and-purple dress, green handbag and ponytail she wore before the game.

    She followed that post with another video featuring a pink short-sleeve shirt and a ponytail. In the clip, Reese lip-synced in front of a mirror, giving fans another glimpse into her Sunday away from the court.

    After setting a WNBA record and returning to TikTok, Reese showed that she is enjoying a standout moment in her career both on and off the court.

    Fernando Alonso “saved” Aston Martin After Difficult Dutch GP Weekend, Says Guenther Steiner

    Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner believes Fernando Alonso was solely responsible for Aston Martin’s points finish at the Dutch Grand Prix.

    Aston Martin arrived at Zandvoort with a highly anticipated power-unit upgrade from engine partner Honda, following the introduction of a B-spec car at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

    However, the upgrades did not immediately deliver a clear improvement. Lance Stroll and Alonso finished 17th and 18th respectively in the sprint, before qualifying 18th and 19th for the Dutch Grand Prix.

    Stroll retired after suffering damage during a chaotic opening lap in which Max Verstappen crashed. Alonso, meanwhile, used an aggressive one-stop strategy to finish ninth and secure two valuable points for Aston Martin, tripling the team’s season tally.

    Steiner credits Alonso for Aston Martin points

    Speaking on The Red Flags Podcast, Steiner suggested that the result owed more to the two-time world champion’s performance than to Aston Martin’s upgraded car.

    “After what I saw on Friday and Saturday in sprint qualifying and the sprint, I was like, ‘Wow, I think we overreacted a little bit to their resurgence.’ And then also the qualifying on Saturday for the race, like, ‘Wow, this is not going the right way,’” Steiner explained.

    “This was a Fernando special here, doing it with one stop. That saved them. He could keep a decent pace, and what helps them at the moment is that there are really now three backmarker teams, which are far off everyone.”

    Aston Martin is currently 10th in the constructors’ championship with three points, all scored by Alonso. The Spaniard sits 19th in the drivers’ standings.

    Alonso says Aston Martin and Honda need more time

    Alonso praised Aston Martin’s upgrades after the race but acknowledged that the team and Honda still need time to fine-tune the changes.

    “In general, we’re still not in the place we want to be in terms of driveability. The downshifts and engine braking seem a little bit random, corner by corner,” the Spaniard told Sky Sports F1. “So we still need to fine-tune it and, with the deficit on power, we still lose a lot on the straights. So now that we are more or less competitive in the corners, we need to improve that. But we are trying to do all this together. “We need to give time to Honda as well to figure out what the problem is and where to fix it. So I’m happy, I’m relaxed. I trust both Silverstone and Sakura.”
