    Actress Bette Middler said she was ‘devastated’ and described Parton’s voice as ‘pure gold’ with a ‘heart to match’.

    “I’m sure the nation will mourn her as I do, and for many years to come,” she added, “what a terrible, terrible loss”.

    And Dolly’s Steel Magnolias co-star Julia Roberts said: “Dolly was a magical and joyous human. I hold knowing her as a treasure in my life. The sun has dimmed today.”

    President Donald Trump has ordered flags to be flown at half mast

    President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to honour Dolly.

    “Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away,” he wrote.

    “This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will.”

    Trump also announced that he had ordered the flags to be flown at half mast in honour of the late singer.

    “In her honour, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”

    In his own tribute, former POTUS Barack Obama said: “It is hard to imagine many people having a bigger impact than Dolly Parton.

    “Born in a one-room cabin, she earned 11 Grammy and an Emmy, built a business empire, helped millions of kids learn to read, and – as if that wasn’t enough helped accelerate the research that led to the Moderna Covid vaccine. What a life.

    “Michelle and I are thinking of Dolly’s family and her many, many fans.”

    Dolly Parton said she ‘still had so many things she wants to achieve’ in one of her final interviews before her death at the age of 80.

    The country music star’s nephew Bryan Seaver announced the sad news of her passing with ‘great sadness’ in a poignant video message shared on Tuesday (25 August).

    Just days ago, she shared an update on the health issues which have been plaguing her since March last year – and her hopes for the future.

    Details surrounding Dolly’s death currently remain unclear, however, she had been candid with fans about facing a number of challenges over the last 12 months.

    In September 2025, she announced that she was postponing the beginning of her Las Vegas residency due to her ailments, before she then pulled the plug on it altogether in May this year.

    The Tennessee-born icon told fans that both her immune system and ‌my digestive system had ‘got all out of whack over the past couple of years’, but said she was ‘improving every day’.

    “Bad news is it’s gonna take me a little while before I’m up to stage performance level, because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit swimmy-headed, as my grandma used to say,” Dolly joked back in May.

    “Of course I can’t be dizzy, carrying around banjos, guitars and such on five-inch heels. And you know that I’m gonna be wearing them!

    “I’m doing really well, and they assure me that everything I have is treatable, so I’m going with that, and I just want you to know I thank you for standing by me and that I will always love you.”

    The 9-5 singer’s health woes came in wake of the passing of her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Carl Dean, in March 2025.

    In her most recent interview, Dolly revealed that she overlooked some red flags with her health while caring for her spouse. However, she then insisted that she was ‘still healing and still working’.

    She spoke to news outlet People about her continuing struggles, which remain unspecified, as she was forced to cancel a scheduled appearance just a few weeks ago.

    Tons of fans had hoped to see the Queen of Country in the flesh at her Tennessee theme park, Dollywood, on 14 August – but she said her doctor had ordered her not to travel.

    “My little butterfly wings are getting kinda tired,” she told attendees about her absence. “Now I’ve told you before, all my fans, that I have had a few little health issues. And sometimes I get a little dizzy, and I get dehydrated.

    “And I’m dehydrated. And so my Nashville doctor clipped my wings, saying you ain’t travelling this week. So I guess if your doctor tells you you ain’t travelling this week, you ain’t travelling this week.”

    Dolly confirmed she was still ‘dealing with’ some ailments while sharing an update with People on Friday (21 August).

    Dolly opened up about ‘hard times with her health’

    “As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl,” the ‘Jolene’ hitmaker said.

    “You know, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to manage something like this.

    “Back in the early ’80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health.

    “But I think because we live in a 24/7 world with social media, everything gets magnified in ways it wasn’t years ago.”

    Dolly then joked that she used to dub herself ‘Queen of the Tabloids’, but moving with the times, she’s now more like ‘the Queen of Social Media AI’.

    She then added: “Seriously, though, even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’!

    “You know me — as I’ve often said — I’ve dreamed myself into a corner and I still have so many things I want to achieve, so I’m gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life.”

    Dolly’s loved ones described her as a ‘beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author’, and said: “A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience.”

    Seaver, who was tasked with delivering the news in the social media video, signed off the clip with an incredibly apt statement.

    “Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton, because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest,” he said.

    “Rest in Peace Aunt Dolly. Aunt Granny. Gigi. May God bless Dolly Parton and may God bless you all. She will always love you.”

    Just last week, fans got a glimpse into how the 80-year-old star was doing when she issued a video message that was broadcast to fans at the launch of a new theme park ride at Dollywood.

    “I’m supposed to be there in person, like we planned,” Parton had said, in the video. “I’ve had my butterfly wings flappin’ since May 15 when we were due to open the first time, and again in June.

    “But I know we had to make sure this is the safest, since it is the biggest and the most expensive ride we have ever added to Dollywood. So, we’re gonna open it today.

    “That’s why I’m here, because my little butterfly wings are getting kinda tired.”

    The country legend went on to explain that she was getting ‘dizzy’ and ‘dehydrated’, and so was advised not to travel.

    Without getting into specific details about her health troubles, Parton had made every effort to keep her beloved fans updated on her wellbeing.

    Tributes are pouring in from fans and friends alike for the 11-time Grammy-winning artist.

    Parton’s passing comes less than two years after the death of her husband Carl Dean.

    Her partner of almost six decades passed away in March 2025 at the age of 82.

    At the time, she told Associated Press: that Dean had been ‘ill for quite a while’ and that while part of her was ‘at peace because he’s at peace’, it didn’t ‘make up for the loss and the loneliness of it.’

    She also told the publication: “I am a person of faith, and I truly believe that I’m going to see him again someday.”

    The legendary performer’s tragic death was announced by her nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver, in a poignant post shared on social media Tuesday (25 August).

    Famed for her incredible charm and extraordinary hits including ‘9 to 5’, ‘Jolene’ and ‘Here You Come Again’, tributes have been pouring in for the music star after the sad news broke.

    Paying tribute to his beloved Aunt Dolly, Seaver explained that she had requested that he took on the task of announcing her death when the time eventually came.

    “This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” he said in the emotional footage.

    “As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment, but haven’t truly felt it until now.

    “It is an honour, an honour that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly.”

    “Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens,” his statement said.

    Seaver went on: “Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent.

    “She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history.

    “My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been your television, your record player, your CD, becoming an extended part of your family. Whether you liked it or not.

    Dolly’s husband of more than six decades, Carl Dean, passed away at the age of 82 in March 2025.

    The late 10-time Grammy winner has been battling a number of unknown health issues in recent months, which forced her to cancel a public appearance at Dollywood in early August.

    In a video message, she told those who had gathered to see her that medics forbid her from travelling to the attraction in Tennessee due to the ‘few little health issues’ she is currently dealing with.

    However, she insisted that ‘all is going well on the medical end of thing’ and told her fans she ‘likes to keep them all in the loop about everything going on with her’.

    While explaining the reason for her absence, Dolly noted that she was still in Nashville and was told she couldn’t make the journey to the city of Pigeon Forge, where Dollywood is located, by her doctor.

    “I’m supposed to be there in person, like we planned,” Parton said in the video message, before revealing she was ‘dehydrated’.

    “That’s why I’m here, because my little butterfly wings are getting kinda tired,” Dolly said in the clip.

    “Now I’ve told you before, all my fans, that I have had a few little health issues. And sometimes I get a little dizzy, and I get dehydrated. And I’m dehydrated.

    Parton told fans she was ‘responding really well to meds and treatments’ in a social media post back in May.

    Among her famous songs was the hit I Will Always Love You, which she penned as a farewell to Porter Wagoner, who had helped her land a record deal.

    Whitney Houston went on to record a cover for The Bodyguard film, which topped charts.

    Her song Jolene, released in 1974, is considered one of country music’s greatest songs, with Beyonce covering it on her 2024 album Cowboy Carter.

    It comes after Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunny Xo, publicly noted that the musician’s weight loss has made his privates ‘severely bigger’.

    Speaking to Howard Stern, she was keen to share: “It is very true that when a man loses weight, it grows a lot.”

    Referring to a recent report from The Washington Post that claimed doctors are worried about Trump’s weight, Jelly Roll told the Jimmy Kimmel Live! audience: “After his last physical we found out Trump gained 14 pounds, which means he’s now tipping the scales of almost 240.

    “It’s crazy. Think about this, y’all, in the last few years I’ve lost 300lbs. That means I’ve lost an entire Donald Trump. And let’s be honest, based on his approval rating it seems like most of the country wants to do the same thing.”

    The 41-year-old continued: “We should take it easy, we shouldn’t be making fun of the president’s weight because we know that he would never do that to other people.”

    Back in 2022, the ‘Need A Favour’ singer, who at one point weighed 550lbs (249kg) vowed to shed some weight, focusing on healthier food and exercise.

    Speaking to Men’s Health about his transformation, he raved: “I’m loving my body. This is a whole new thing for me, y’all. I’ve been imprisoned to a fat suit for 30-something years.”
